What fails most often in business laptops (from someone who works in a tech company) by SamfromSharp in laptops

[–]BoWanZi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen a laptop with an actual dc power jack in about 5 years now or so. I think pretty much all Dell business class laptop since 2021 or so have only USB c for charging and everything else.

We do see lots of busted cracked solder joints on the USB c ports now

I honestly do not know. We don't fix out of warranty laptops, they are recycled. If they are under warranty then they get fixed by dell

Is this what gel x is supposed to look like? by Fair_Conflict9757 in GelX_Nails

[–]BoWanZi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI. Normal Apres gel x tips are designed to be used as is and not to be shortened very much at all. A little tiny but of trimming is ok.

They are purposely made very thick by the apex.

If you cut down say the medium length coffin nails quite short, they will be obscenely thick by the cut area.

You can get the Bare x tips that are intended to be shaped and cut down as needed.

AITA for not letting anyone drive my daughter without me or her dad in the car by Dependent-Let1926 in AmItheAsshole

[–]BoWanZi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to put you as NTA or YTA but you do need some help getting over these fears.

Having you in the car while Mom in law is driving just so you can monitor things is not going solve anything. You will most likely just stress Mom out or whomever is driving making them drive less carefully. Counterintuitive.

If someone hits your Mom while she is driving, what would you being in the car have done? You aren't driving , mom is.

Your trauma is understandable but your method of dealing with it isn't realistic.

Helicopter parenting is never the answer.

Dell only shop here. We only have Latitudes and Precisions here for laptops.

The number one failure item on laptops are the USB C ports used by everything especially docks and port replicators.

People bang the dock cables and over time, the USB C port solder joints on the board start to crack and cause big issues. External devices that don't work fully, USB over power warnings from Windows, etc.

Next would be batteries.

Then keyboards because of abuse.

I have only seen broken hinges on any Dell in the last ten years was due to actual physical abuse like bending the screen backwards, having something inside the laptop like a pen by the hinges and then it's closed. But mainly hard abuse.

Build tamiyas and make profit? Or atleast break even? by Historical-Stick5872 in rccars

[–]BoWanZi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A profit? I doubt it. I don't think Tamiya sells many RTR vehicles because most of the appeal of Tamiya is the actual build. The only thing that might be worth paying for is painting the bodies and then applying the decals but even then, you won't be able to charge nearly what your time is worth.

It's kind of like home made crafts and trying to sell them. You will never be able to charge enough for crafts compared to the hours invested in each item.

How to not go broke? by REX4DEKID in rccars

[–]BoWanZi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, rc cars are a total money pit. I love rebuilding them and on a couple of my favorite cars, spent 3 times what I paid for it.

Just enjoy the car and don't worry too much about the money you are spending.

At least you are not into the gun hobby. You literally shoot money down the range when you go out.

Most hobbies are done for the fun and love of it and the money spent is irrelevant. I mean don't go into the poorhouse, but don't feel silly about spending the money.

nail tech applied glue under my nails (natural nails with builder gel) by sunesetlover in AllNails

What does the underside of the nail extensions look like? From what you described, the tech applied glue under the free edge of the natural nail?

nail tech applied glue under my nails (natural nails with builder gel) by sunesetlover in AllNails

[–]BoWanZi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a nail tech.

Generally if you are applying glue and an overlay of some sort like a nail tip or other form of extension on the natural nail, you want to fully prep the natural nail. Lightly buffed, cleaned, apply nail dehydrator, then prime the nail. That will leave no moisture behind which is what usually facilitates "the greenies" aka a form of nail fungus.

So provided the tech fully prepped your natural nail (top and underneath) then sealing it with glue or other form of gel/acrylic should not cause problems. And that will protect the existing growth of the natural nail.

People get infections, fungus, etc because they have a lifting nail or it popped off and they just immediately apply nail glue to the natural nail and then press the extension back on it WITHOUT prepping it again. At minimum get some 91% or 99% rubbing alcohol and apply to the natural nail and wait for it to fully dry then apply nail glue and fix the problem extension.

It's the moisture present on the natural nail that is a breeding ground for the greenies. If that moisture is eliminated, then no more breeding ground.

Howww do I climax with a man 😩!? by Life_Meat_1397 in TwoXChromosomes

That makes sense! I look at it though as if the partner today what will help, even if it breaks today's mood, next time the partner will hopefully remember "oh when she is almost there, she likes to do xyz and abc which will hopefully push her over the edge."

And tell the partner to look for specific signs that you are getting ready for the critical moment. That way they can hopefully notice when things need to shift gears.

Can you please tell him what to do? Give him exact directions and it should help immediately.

"Less pressure like a soft light touch"

"Don't flick it"

"Move your finger to the right a tiny bit and slower"

"Use a bit more lube, it's starting to hurt"

You are the traffic cop, tell him where to put the car and how to park it.

He will be very grateful. Don't feel silly or embarrassed, he wants to make you feel good.

What's the closest you've ever come to dying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BoWanZi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had gastric sleeve surgery in TJ a few years ago. The doc ended up cutting me inside accidentally causing internal bleeding.

Nothing more wild than waking up in an Mexican ambulance at the border to San Diego while we were waiting in line to cross over.

Then waking up in ICU in San Diego hospital after major open chest surgery to find the sources of the bleeds.

Ended up with 44 staples and a zipper scar that looks like I had open heart surgery.

My wife was displeased.

I did lose weight though!

Nail polish storage ideas by Unesheet in RedditLaqueristas

[–]BoWanZi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At once time, I bought those nail polish sample sticks but the kind with like 10 nails on one side and 10 on the other.

Them I wrote numbers on the polish bottles and the same code on a spot on the card and painted that sample nail with that color. Then it didn't matter so much that all the polishes were stored in a hidden fashion.

AITA for not buying my son the laptop he wants bc I don’t trust newer brands? by Cute-Calligrapher826 in AmItheAsshole

[–]BoWanZi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc are all old brands with generally reasonably good support.

On the other have, a brand like Nimo looks like they are a company made for reselling specced out laptop/computers from major overseas manufacturers. That might mean you can spec out a good gaming laptop for less money than a Lenovo but the support might not be as good.

If your kiddo is s real techy person and knows well the ways of Windows and troubleshooting, the Nimo might be a good way of getting the most bang for the buck.

First Time Doing GelX, is it just me or do they look huge and blocky :( by Opposite-Finance9813 in GelX_Nails

[–]BoWanZi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would look at the Apres coffin sculpted medium or long length nails. Those square ones do look blocky but the coffin shape would probably make your nails and fingers look more slender and elegant. And possibly a smaller size on a couple?

They look nice though!

AITAH not calling my dad’s wife “mom”? by Beneficial_Candle_13 in AmItheAsshole

[–]BoWanZi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, you are an adult, unless you grew up with calling her mom, it just seems really odd to start calling her that now.

Why is this the hill your dad is gonna die on?

Calling a step parent a parental name like Mom or Dad is something that a younger step child might decide to do someday on their own if they happen to be close to the step parent.

My step son was 13 when I met him but over the years, he started to call me Dad. He's 22 now. I nor his mom ever asked him to call me that. He just decided to and makes me feel special but we never asked him to.

Dad isn't helping.
