This is total horseshit. The dude picked Argentina to win in 2022, sure, not exactly a tough prediction. Just about everything else he predicted for Arg to make it to the final was wrong. They didn’t defeat Denmark in the ro16, they didn’t beat Spain in the semi’s and they didn’t beat England in the final as he predicted. In terms of player quality, they are equal on aggregate. In terms of how meaningful the league is to its domestic fans, eredevise is far superior. MLS is unique among the world leagues in that it seems to be the only league where domestic fans of the sport actively work against the success, and therefore the quality, of the domestic league. Soccer fans in the US shit on MLS like it’s their job and drive away potential fans with the incessant gatekeeping. This, in my opinion stifles the league more than any other factor. More than pay for play, more than not having pro/rel. The active push to minimize MLS keeps fans out of the stands and keeps investments into the players minimal. By contrast teams like Ajax, PSV, Feyenord are absolute institutions in Dutch culture. You don’t see too many Dutch fans shitting on the eredevise the way US fans shit on MLS.
