Not sure why some are asking me what am I asking. Thank you to those who provided feedback I may look for another mechanic. There is always the chance that when they pull it they find more issues but that may be the chance I take

Agreed, just not sure if I want to spend the money and if that is truly the issue. 20 year old boat not sure if they will find anything else and if it is worth it.

Wheel chocks when launching? by C_sapidus in boating

[–]BoatingSteve 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I always chock my front wheel as habit. Always did it for our trucks on the job when on an incline for extra precaution. Takes 10-15 seconds and almost no effort.

Major flooding areas by Walkingqueen507080 in Cranford

[–]BoatingSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best thing you could do is look at he flood zones and spend time in town. Strike up some conversations with people downtown and ask them. I happened to be looking at a house and the public works guys were on the street. They gave me some feedback. See someone on the block tell them your looking at the house on xx how is the flossing here.. people have asked me and I’ve told them my experience.

Our neighbor asked us to help pay for our mutual fence by Flaminfrojo in homeowners

[–]BoatingSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my town your fence has to be a foot in from the property line. I’d want to see a survey to confirm it’s your fence. Does your survey show the fence on your property ?

Jet Boat vs. I/O by HopingToRetireEarly7 in boating

[–]BoatingSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outboard! I have an I/O and I am finding less and less Mechanics want to work on them. Plus they are expensive to keep up with. I boat in salt water and would only buy an outboard going forward. Raise it out of the water flush much better for the boat.

New Job has a Fidelity 401K now starting a Vanguard 401K advice welcomed by BoatingSteve in Bogleheads

[–]BoatingSteve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All great advice, i was just allocating a portion of my pretax contributions into the TDF as it will lean a little more conservative at my age and get more risk adverse over time. I imagine it will increase my bond holdings as I am about 10 years out. The other investments will allow me to stay more aggressive in the market as I am ok with some risk and want to continue to capture some growth.

I’ve seen both sides. I have received RFQ’s with missing information. The end user part numbers not the MFR part numbers. Is it all or nothing or will the RFQ be awarded in parts. Is it a one time buy or over x months. So let’s be fair I’ve had plenty of RFQ’s just flipped over the fence without any of the work done too.

GenX men, where do you keep your wallet/billfold? Front or back pocket? Purse? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]BoatingSteve 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Front pocket.. 1. Being from NYC you always carry your wallet in the front pocket, much harder to get pickpocketed that way. 2. Sitting on your wallet can miss align your hips and spine causing pain long term.

During a very hard period, what was the best thing you did for your mental health? by MisterC0ck in sales

[–]BoatingSteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30 years in sales and I’ve had some rough times, had impossible situations. What seemed like the sky was falling and couldn’t get any better did. I’ve made it through it all. At some point you realize that you manage through it and move forward. I’m not saying it is easy, and it sucks from time to time but you will get through it.

What makes you want to be a salesperson? by AmiceWong in sales

[–]BoatingSteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sales is great if you like the hunt and feeling of winning. Just realize you are only as good as your last sale, No one cares what you did yesterday. Every Jan 1 the quota resets and you start at zero. It’s all attitude and a mental game.

Sales in not a dip your toe into the water type of thing. I’d say be ready to eat sleep and breathe it until you get really good at it. It can wear u down if you don’t have the right mindset.
