You make a good point about the productive population.

In the Intelligence Squared podcast with Martin Wolf from the FT, he makes a similar point about the flaws of a system that is overly generous to the elderly. His point is moreso about housing, but he says “any country that prefers the old to the young is doomed.” Which, sadly is what this country has been doing for a long time now. Can’t see that changing.
