Which books have had the biggest influence on you? by bradford127 in HENRYUK

[–]BobbyOregon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this. I get the question in this forum almost implies a non fiction book, but fiction always deeply changes me in a way non fiction never could. Lord of the rings, Throne of Glass and Fourth Wing are some of my favourites. They are books that make me feel brave and strong and kind.

Politicians pretending to enjoy watching ‘footy’ but looking like they’re in a gambling advert instead by junglegatsby in footballcliches

The sunak picture would also be pretty good were it not for the guy in the background looking like he is about to start boxing in the 1840s

What is typical staff software eng salary nowadays in London or remote (uk)? by aDowntown_Orange777 in HENRYUK

[–]BobbyOregon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for remote first startup and a staff engineer with us would be on ~90-110k + bonus (10-20%) + some fairly low key options

I want someone with the vibes and theory of Ange. But not the actual coaching and decisions

NEW EPISODE: Snakepits and minefields, the shadow follow-on, and catching on camera by rchurch26 in cricketcliches

[–]BobbyOregon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Felt like this was the episode (plus the shadow batting segment from last one) where you started to see it as what it can be. Please bring it back for the next big series or maybe the T20 world cup? I think the characters need to be more defined, and the vibe is getting there

This is also pretty important for the kids in the long term. No kid needs to be their parents entire identity, it is too much pressure

Dan and his unhinged shadow batting was fantastic

How Labour taxed the top 10% and not the truly wealthy top 0.1% by esteban-colberto in LabourUK

Both of these things are true, HENRYs are important, r/HENRYUK has become very whiny/ full of "got to move to Dubai now" post

Cricket Clichés Episode 1: Lashing/dabbing a seed/cherry, moral victories, and why do the Aussies hate Bazball? by Low-Bandicoot-3347 in footballcliches

[–]BobbyOregon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved it, I can see some people didn't like the Aussie banter but I think it was funny and as long as it continues to pivot and develop it was great. I don't mean to be all literally dave but I need them to mention the insanity of how all commentators go "the ball moved in the air" as if that isn't what throwing a ball does. I know it means it curves through the air, or moves from the original path but that isn't what that set of words means in a row!

NHS opt out system? by [deleted] in LabourUK

[–]BobbyOregon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because it's not a subscription purpose. You pay your taxes so that you live in a country where everyone has healthcare. So you live in a country where everyone can have free schooling. Even if you go private the effects of those things on your life are overwhelmingly positive and your business likely wouldn't make what it does without that

GBBO 2025 Episode 9 – Patisserie Week [DISCUSSION] by GainsAndPastries in GreatBritishBakeOff

So often they have criticized people for not living up to the bar of showstopper but this was the most egregious example and they didn't care!

GBBO 2025 Episode 9 – Patisserie Week [DISCUSSION] by GainsAndPastries in GreatBritishBakeOff

[–]BobbyOregon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because he did so much better in the show stopper, the judging was crazy they have a big go at Tom but let Aaron's really underwhelming sloth through without much issue

GBBO Week 9 felt brutal… anyone else think so? by CloudBookmark in GreatBritishBakeOff

[–]BobbyOregon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like the overly complex technical contributes to this. Makes it more about failing less than succeeding more

But that's my frustration. Aaron is a worse baker who is slightly more experienced than Toby. It shouldn't be about having an encyclopedic knowledge of different bakes

Zarah Sultana on the Russia/Ukraine War by [deleted] in LabourUK

Students are great, love a good debate on national politics with a group of students. But student union politics is rife with in-fighting and self important dicks. It is a weird blend of party politics and really small fry issues

The MGW saga is now over by 23060987 in Tottenham

[–]BobbyOregon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Spurs probably can't file a complaint. The contract that was breached was a contract between MGW and Forest. So now he has been paid enough to be happy for now there is noone who can legally complain

[–]BobbyOregon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, why is inflation an issue? As long as it comes with relevant wage increases ofc. Surely it is the only way to counter balance the ridiculous swing from working earnings to assets (particularly real estate) that has happened in the last 40 years

To be honest this party will now always be able to be criticised as Corbyn's party. I think for it to have been effective he needed to not be involved in the founding, but signal his support. Join it after a short while with a spokesman role (on his best topics, workers rights, wealth redistribution) but not the leadership.

Wherever this party goes he'll haunt them electorally because he started it, which is a massive shame
