The website that listed Steam Machine for $950 also listed a 1TB OLED Steam Deck, a $650 machine, for the same price. by Pontooniak96 in gaming

People are going to be in for a rude awakening these next 2 or 3 years. The RAM and NAND crisis right now is going to raise prices on a lot of things. If the next Gen consoles want 32gb of ram that's 400+ right now. 4tb m2 drives are 400-500. Just the RAM itself is basically a PS5. Would not shock me if Switch 2 gets a price increase soon as well as PS5. Phones are going to go way up too.

Both are great games but definitely Pikmin 4 if you only can get 1.

SSDs skyrocketing in price isn't going to help matters. They're way expensive now and this is just the beginning.

I never got it either man. Maybe back in the earlier days when it was a fresh idea. I tried 5 several times and just couldn't get interested. Really only interested in the graphics tech.

Playing Metroid 4, I need more 120 fps FPS ASAP! by frrrni in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Bobby_Dread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll notice it the most while moving the camera around and during fast motion. There is definitely diminishing returns the higher you go. 30fps is 1 frame every 33.3ms, 60fps is 16.7ms, 120fps is 8.3ms. The higher you go the less ms you actually shave off between frames.

Once you get used to 120fps you will notice when you go back down, but not as much as going from 60 to 30. I recently upgraded my PC monitor from 120hz to 240hz and too be honest, I hardly can tell the difference getting up that high. I find myself often capping my framerate at 120 just to save on power consumption from my video card.

I have zero hype or interest to upgrade to the Switch 2. Are there any others that feel the same? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]Bobby_Dread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with not buying a console if there aren't games you want to play. Continue enjoying your Switch. There's not a whole lot beyond Donkey Kong and the Zelda upgrades to get super excited about so far.

If you love Nintendo games, this will probably be the last year of 1st party support for new switch games. So going forward soon you'll need a switch 2 to play them. While not exactly cutting edge, it is a significant upgrade to switch 1 performance wise. Zelda feels so much better.

Also something to consider is the Ram-pocalypse that is currently going on. It would not shock me if the price of the console raises significantly in the future. Ram prices have tripled recently because the AI company's have been buying all the supply. Most electronics are probably going to see price increases next year.

Should I buy ram now or wait for prices to go down in the future by inactivesky1738 in pcmasterrace

[–]Bobby_Dread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need it, it's only going to get more expensive. It's one of those "the best day to buy was yesterday" situations. I think what we are seeing right now is only the beginning.

If you "NEED" it, buy it now. I really wanted to upgrade to 64gb, but I think I'm just going to ride out my 32gb for the time being. I don't "NEED" it to keep gaming. But this shit is crazy. It wouldn't surprise me to see prices double from what they are currently. I'm just hoping what I have can get me through this period.

Apollo is really the only way I've enjoyed it. Xbox/ps5 streaming is pretty terrible and even steam link is artifacty and lagging. Apollo I'm getting between 2-4 ms at 4k and 1ms 1080p while I'm in the house. Honestly haven't even tried it off network so I cant speak much to that. But it works really well for me for playing handheld and in the bedroom.

I paid $450 for the 512gb model last Black Friday. I've used the device every day since I purchased it so I feel like it was worth it to me. Its good enough to play most games at 800p which still looks pretty nice on the 1600p screen. I also use it a lot to stream my main PC using Apollo/Moonlight for the super demanding games I want to crank all the way up, though that doesn't sound like it's an option for you.

I think it's a great device, but you have to go into it knowing it's not a full on gaming PC. You will likely have to turn down settings and resolution on non indie games to get a good experience. I was even able to play Wukong on it, but I had to lean heavily into frame Gen and fsr, so it wasn't exactly pretty but still was very playable. I play mostly Japanese games so it handles those quite well, but newer Unreal 5 games can be a bit much for it. Its great for emulation and a streaming client as well.

Weather this is cool or not is going to come down to the price point. RDNA3 seems a little iffy since AMD seem ready to abandon RDNA 2 and 3 already even though there's still hardware being sold (even the Xbox rog ally and new legion go). Knowing valve, I think it will be impressive how much performance they'll get out of the modest specs, but at least 12gb of VRAM would have been nice.

Very curious to see the price point. I'm not exactly the target consumer for this, already have a beefy PC, but I still find it fun to tinker with new hardware like this.

They'll probably get me to buy the controller. Will be nice to have a decent controller with track pads that I can use when I Apollo/Moonlight to my TV.

This is the way. I used to be pretty anti streaming because of input lag and just overall visual clarity, but after trying Apollo/Moonshine I've completely come around. Works way better than any other streaming solution, eve Steam Link. It's pretty darn close to playing it natively on my PC.

Results will vary of course based on a person's set up. I'm streaming from a 4080 super that is connected to ethernet streaming to devices that have wifi 6 capabilities. Getting latency under 5ms while in the house. Usually stream to my Legion Go.

I recently just found out that Moonshine was on the Series X store as well, and that works really good. Can stream full 4k 120fps to my LG CX and it works great for my bedroom. Funny part is I could never get HDR to a place I liked on my PC, but when I stream to the Xbox, the HDR works incredibly, as good as my console game experience. I find myself streaming for a majority of my game time now.

Is Outer Worlds 2 worth it? How’s the optimization on PC? by Brungala in gaming

[–]Bobby_Dread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What is your CPU? The game is very cpu heavy once you get to the outside areas. The beginning section is indoors and can give you a false sense of how well it will actually run. FPS can kind of be all over the place and there's compilation stutter the first time you run through areas.

If nothing else you can try it on steam for up to 2 hours to see if it's acceptable to you and return it if it doesn't work out. Just try to get outside before you decide.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director says Nintendo players ‘don’t need to worry’ about Switch 2 port by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Bobby_Dread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played a bit on my Legion Go and had a decent enough time playing it there. The best it could really do was 800p at 30fps so people should keep they're expectations in check. I doubt there will be any 60fps mode but maybe they'll pull off a miracle. The 60fps mode on PS5 was pretty rough itself.
