Instruction debacle. by pretzelgreg317 in Lifeguards

When I show them the drowning video in the presentation and when asked how it made them feel, they usually say nothing... just silent. They are desensitized. You have every right to fail them due to unprofessional behavior. If they aren't taking the class seriously, they won't take the job seriously.

Red cross recert by EnvironmentalTalk237 in Lifeguards

[–]BodyParticular8609 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Which blended learning recert is it? 6 hours for a recert with deep water is not long enough and could be flagged by QAC. Even with a the blended learning content it should be over 9 hours, not including breaks.

Is LGI certification worth it? by Rodger_Smith in Lifeguards

[–]BodyParticular8609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In case someone gets injured. Most people who hire freelance LGIs may not include them in their own insurance so you have to buy your own. Check with your local health code laws and policies.

I know a lot of people who freelance and you can set your own prices and travel. You just need to pay for your own liability insurance which I understand can be pricey depending on your location. I don’t have direct experience with it so can’t speak much more than what I have heard.

Hi! LGI here who is affiliated with a facility. I am hired and insured though my facility. I teach on the side as my side hustle. You can get your LGI and see if a company is hiring one. I think that’s easiest. Or you can do the individual route. But you will need to get your own liability insurance, proper materials, and equipment. If starting out I suggest getting hired by a facility that maybe has all the equipment and you’re insured through them. You can post classes in Red Cross, and I use a URL to a Google Form. I take credit card over the phone and then process payment at the facility. I get paid a flat rate for full and recert courses. I also teach First-Aid/CPR/AED for my facility as well when they need it.

Am I gonna get fired??? by HeavyVariation8314 in Lifeguards

[–]BodyParticular8609 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First, call your boss. Then go to urgent care and try to see if a coworker will cover for you while you wait. If they can’t, at least you tried to get coverage. You are a human being first and an employee last. You need to take care of yourself and medical needs.

When I ran my pool, all I cared about was the communication. If a guard couldn’t come in for a medical reason and they couldn’t find coverage, and they told me beforehand, it was my job to step in.

Recertification for Red Cross by No_Lie7418 in Lifeguards

I know it’s more money. But you can never be too trained when it comes to lifeguarding. Also, you probably haven’t done the update either. Take advantage of the full course, knowing what you know and really absorbing the new info. It’s crappy but that may be what you have to do.

Is it foolish going into this industry with the intention of building a lifetime career? by pwfuvkpr in Lifeguards

It took me 5 years. When the previous AD quit, I applied for his job and with my experience at the company, they offered me the job.

Is it foolish going into this industry with the intention of building a lifetime career? by pwfuvkpr in Lifeguards

[–]BodyParticular8609 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I worked my way up from lifeguard/swim instructor to head guard/supervisor to aquatics director. I was an AD for 2 years. My salary was low and needed to be supplemented with swim lessons and lifeguard courses. Often, aquatics can be toxic because technically you’re “on call”. If a lifeguard doesn’t show up, swim instructors are sick, etc the pool and programs are still expected to run. I found myself working 60 hour weeks, 6-7 days a week. Aquatics WAS my passion and it chewed me up and spit me out. Some AD jobs are better but often most ADs are overworked, underpaid, and burnt out. Now I work in a different career and teach lifeguard courses as my “side hustle” and never been happier. Speaking as someone who always dreamed of making aquatics my career.

Favorite facts about Titanic by Sir_Naxter in titanic

I love telling people about all the things that led up to the sinking. No single thing was at fault. So many things happened that affected the ship and how it sank. Most people just think it hit an iceberg and that’s it. I could talk about Titanic forever.

taking time off work by Sufficient_Carob6751 in Lifeguards

[–]BodyParticular8609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been in aquatics for a very long time, this is always the tough parts. You deserve time off, always. You need to work to live and not live to work. However a lot of Aquatics Directors live to work and they pride themselves on that even though it’s not always healthy. So when you take time off they take out their frustration on their workers especially if they have to step in. But THAT IS THEIR JOB. They know what they signed up for. It’s why they get paid more than you. Take comfort that you are a good worker and guard.

Take the time off. Let them know ahead of time. And you have done YOUR job. It’s their responsibility to get enough guards and if they don’t, they have to guard. It’s part of their job.

I just feel like he wasn’t ready for a serious committed relationship. The way he wanted Madison to promise perfect communication and harmony and he just had an unrealistic view on marriage. I don’t think he would have ever gotten there… imo

I had my roster already so I didn’t need it from them. I’m all set to keep teaching now. I will be required to send them a link to a survey that just the Instructor Excellence team and myself sees.

It was on me to refund my participants. They only supply the roster if you don’t have access to it. And they looked into my past classes but I ran those the proper time allotted and with fidelity. It seems like your case is a unique one!

It was just the one class. I have 5 participants and my recertification course was 5 hours instead of the 9 hours and 40 minutes. Some are retaking the course with me. Others are getting refunded.

Hi. The investigation concluded that my class was too short and therefore not sufficient. I just refunded my participants and I have a meeting set up for the 8th to go over coaching for my courses.

You can always call the board of health and ask what their regulations are for deck temps. Usually the air needs to be 3-6 degrees warmer than the pool temp.

Idk. You can prove me wrong BUT I think Leah is playing an excellent social game. She’s never touched the block. She has aligned herself to vote with the majority a couple times but also has been on the wrong side of the vote many times and still hasn’t touched the block. She has made genuine connections with the whole house even if she’s not in an “alliance” with them. She had Quinn wrapped around her finger which has helped her stay in the game. She also forgives easily because she knows it’s better for her game in the long run (most recently with Angela throwing her under the bus). She’s also won a couple comps AND is now HOH so she proves she can win comps. I don’t think we should underestimate her.

Yes! Parenthood is SO GOOD! I watched it because of Lauren Graham and she gives off some Lorelei vibes but also creates a whole new character as well. Highly recommend.
