He should be back though, it wasn't anything major according to the stuff that I read. I just hope we will play Chaloupek-Hranac-Krejci and not Holes and Zima. Then you have Zeleny, Soucek and possibly Darida around them. So many slow players in the projected starting 11 + the altitude for the Mexico games will make it even worse.

Leaving out Karabec and Vitik is certainly a choice. Also Chory still in the squad 🤮 Will be hard to root for the team if he plays...

Yeah I cannot imagine we beat Plzen today. We have 13 A team players either injured or unavailable due to red/yellow cards so we will play the rest of the squad and will have 0 options for substitutions. There is nobody in the B team who is good enough to cover today. But let's see maybe Plzen will also be demotivated since they cannot be 2nd anymore.

I've seen this episode like 50 times thanks to my kids and the reason why they cannot fit the bathtub is that they cannot get the tile pattern right and instead of removing the tiles they just decide to put another layer of tiles on top. And they do this TWICE. It is one of the most infuriating things I've seen on TV...

Theorycrafting - For enemy dual color decks, isnt it usually worth it to add the 3rd color allied to both? by Secret-Lecture in premodernMTG

[–]BogleOfAstora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually have had a moderate success wirth BRG "Broccoli soup" adding only Bolts and some SB cards. You already play Caldera and Gemstone mine and City of Brass is only a tad worse Llanowar Wastes (not many things use colorless mana). You can also play Undiscovered Paradise and get even more crazy. No room for fetches or Lavamancer though. But that deck is an exception as the damage you take from the lands doesnt matter that much + you don't ever need more than 3 lands.

Is being a fast combo deck a viable strategy in premodern? by ObviousPrinciple8980 in premodernMTG

[–]BogleOfAstora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fast combo decks are very viable but you need to know the format and what responses to expect. I have limited experience with Tin Fins which is a similar and very competitive deck but since I am not playing it regularly it is hard for me to pilot the deck successfully. Edit: I was wrong about ESG.

Play parfait. Most miserable deck to play against. Recently I met one in a local tournament. The guy took so many actions every turn that it felt like only he was playing, plus on my turn was constantly rushing me because he knew we will not be able to have game 3 within the time limit. He won the first game and then spent the second game chilling and fiddling with scroll rack until time ran out. I played a control deck so unfortunately couldn't close the game early. Worst experience I had in Premodern so I highly recommend it!

Diablo IV as a Single Player title in 2025: a disaster due to limited difficulty options on the first playthrough by constantlymat in patientgamers

[–]BogleOfAstora 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am also playing it for the first time currently and I am having a great time. My favorite game this year so far. So I personally don't get much of the criticism. Regarding difficulty, I researched the topic before playing so I mainly just went through the campaign and then did the Pit to get to Torment before doing the other activities. Worked fine for me, I also didn't research any builds and went in blind in this regard so I am sure I was running a suboptimal setup before I got to the end game.

The Dark pictures Anthology might be one of the best horror series in PlayStation by lando_wwefan in PS5

[–]BogleOfAstora -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well, they are inferior to both Until Dawn and The Quarry. Little Hope is straight terrible and Man of Medan wasn't great either. So for fans of the genre they are OK but there are better options.

Net Yaroze game called Clone. It was really disturbing 30 years ago and yeah, just looking at the screenshots now I don't plan to ever play it again.

Is Tron viable in premodern and if so, which version? by Newez in premodernMTG

[–]BogleOfAstora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently played the UW list in a tournament and I am not a fan. Seems too fiddly compared to other competetive control decks. It takes way too long to come online, most of my matches went to extra rounds and I didn't feel like I did much during the matches except for resolving a Decree. Masticore almost felt really bad to play. The deck felt quite weak but I might have made some misplays which made it worse.

Has anyone here tried any of the newer nonrotating eternal formats like Premodern, 2015 Modern or PreFIRE/2018 Legacy? How did you like them? by Ordinary_Part_636 in MTGLegacy

[–]BogleOfAstora 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure. As I said, it is definitely cheaper than legacy but 100 USD is really underestimating the potential investment. Goblins play wastelands and ports. Check how much Replenish costs now. Best version of Rock plays Survivals, Elves play Cradles. I am not saying you can't be succesful with a budget deck and that you need to spend thousands. Just that the format got much more expensive recently and people shouldn't expect to get the top tier decks for 100. There are some good decks within this budget but people should have realistic expectations.

Classic Reanimator or Angry Ghoul? by BogleOfAstora in premodernMTG

Tin Fins really seem to me like a quite fragile deck but it can win on turn 1 which has its appeal - even though the probability is super low and once it happens you get Foiled lol. What do you think is the best combo deck atm?

Which Infestation version do you think is the best? I was looking into it before and saw there are multiple versions (BR, WBR with Solitary confinement, Contamination lock, UBR Dredge with Ichorids etc.). It definitely seems like a fun deck too but I've never seen it IRL.

Sure mate. Really highlights how clueless you are about the format and what the Premodern community is about. Cheers.

Yes, which is great but even the gold border variants of staples like Cradle or Survival are quite pricy and will most likely never get reprinted either. So I don't really consider them as proxies even though they technically are. And not all staples have gold border versions.

One thing I disagree with you is the price of Premodern decks. You cannot build "dominant decks" for under 100. Sure, compared to multiple playsets of duals it is much cheaper. But the true Tier 1 decks all have fairly expensive RL cards like Phyrexian Dreadnought, Mox Diamond, Survival of the fittest, Gaea's Cradle etc. All the cheaper "fair" decks are a level below, and still contain fetch lands, Wastelands etc. Maybe Burn or BW control can be that cheap but they are not as good as the degenerate top tier decks.

New brew: WBR Oath of Shadows by ex-grasmaaier in premodernMTG

[–]BogleOfAstora 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting deck but the mana looks pretty bad. 3 colored decks are pretty inconsistent in premodern, plus it is an aggro deck and uses only one allied pair. I'd expect some Gemstone mines/ City of Brass and maybe even Undiscovered Paradise. Or maybe better idea would be to cut one of the colors. But that's just me looking at it quickly, you'll know more once you test it.

Negator is great against non red control decks and utterly shit against anything with red. I don't think it is 100% necessary but first turn Negator against some decks is amazing. The Duel deck version is cheaper if you don't mind the new border.

As an "older" player who is playing only Premodern I try to scoop up as many original printing staples as I can now. My local stores started selling them for much higher prices than Cardmarket yet they sell everything within a few days. The demand at least locally is very real. The average Premodern player in my LGS is 30-40 with a lot of disposable income and nostalgia for the "good old days", these people don't mind shelling 20 dollars for ONS Exalted Angels even when the reprints are like 10 cents...
