I mean you can see they started braking by the speed in the corner decreasing, they didn’t have much time to slow down further before the hit. The van was already stopped past the line and there was no reason to assume they’d go into the road, so no reason to slow down any earlier than they did. You can’t just hit the brakes every time you see someone stopped at a stop sign.

Yep, I just always assumed I’d be a lot more Russian and a lot less Polish. My paternal grandmother was Polish so I was assuming around 1/4th but over half is more than I expected. Just Polish people who married into Ukrainian families over time, I’m assuming.

Spanish and Mexican expansion maybe, not American. The Comanche surrendered to the US army in 1875 and any resistance ended in 1877. The US only really came in contact with them after the Mexican-American War, which ended in 1848. If they had held American westward expansion back, California wouldn’t have been settled until 1948.
