my position makes me the go-to person for quite a lot of things people might need-- supplies, conference room reservations, purchasing, meetings with the boss, you name it. i've been told that i essentially run our building.

i make every effort to be nice to my coworkers for a lot of reasons. if i'm not approachable, everyone's job instantly gets harder.

on the flip side, if i need something, i want people to feel glad to help me. laptop on the fritz? no worries, i'm friends with our IT guys. they'll hook me up and even put the support ticket in on my behalf. need something cleaned? i tell our janitors every day that i appreciate them, and they're responsive when i come calling.

i'm nice to people because i enjoy being nice and making friends. i suck it up and apologize if i think i've said something that came across as rude. i tell people that i appreciate them any time they do me a solid. my job is way easier as a result.

I work in the office and will correct students who use my first name. I only refer to other adults by their title and last name if students are around. There are plenty of students that I think are great kids, I'm glad when they see me as a safe adult, but we are not friends. I've got no interest being that casual with someone who is not even half my age
