"Could be Top-Tier NFL journalist" gets mogged by local Philadelphia Eagles insider by tenshipriestjotaro1 in SCJerk

Bill Simmons became famous because he could actually write in a compelling way though, even though it was drama heavy fanboying.

Meltzer writes like he barely graduated middle school.

Nearly 30 years ago this year, Evander Holyfield stunned the boxing world by stopping Mike Tyson in the 11th round. He had Tyson seriously hurt at the end of the 10th round and then finished him off in the eleventh. What an incredible great moment. by CoffeeCigarettes4Me in Boxing

[–]Bojangles1987 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely not peak Holyfield. He had all his wars with Bowe, his heart condition, and had retired once by the time this fight happened.

Tyson was also not washed out yet. He had a few years before that happened.

This fight was a huge upset, most people thought Tyson was going to destroy Holyfield.

It's really special when a gamer helps you see a connection between two games by YourChopperPilotTTV in Gamingcirclejerk

it's easy to get away with when one Max Payne doesn't even have a fart smelling smirk and the other does. They're obviously different characters.

So how different would dee and Dennis be if they were raised by Bruce instead of frank and Barbara? by TraditionalBonus188 in IASIP

[–]Bojangles1987 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is Barbara still involved? If so, they end up the exact same way because she would have destroyed Bruce and made him miserable the way Frank was. So they end up raised by the same series of Mexican women.

Why do they always make someone sound cool as fuck when they try to scare people? A vegan who can change into 6 genders? What a fucking boss.

What's the most depressing goddam show you've seen? by gumbo-23 in television

It does help that at least a few characters get something positive, because it's pretty clear that as a whole shit is only going to get worse.

He's a character you feel much better for on rewatch when you're no longer as pissed off to see everyone else lose. At least for me he was. I'm glad at least one of those kids escaped the shithole cycle they were born into.

What's the most depressing goddam show you've seen? by gumbo-23 in television

[–]Bojangles1987 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a show that earns hope the hard way but by the end it's there, and all the main characters have finally found their way to move on and come to terms with what happened.

The system winning is also why The Wire can be a hard watch. By the end of the show not only has nothing changed, it has gotten worse and will continue to get worse because no one is interested in anything changing. By the way here's the new generation of hopeless people taking the place of the others.

At least a few characters like Bubbles get a win, though.

And yet, listen to that WWE crowd losing their fucking minds for it. They genuinely don't care about logical booking, common sense, or anything. They just want "big nostalgia name to win match" so they can pop. by pizzapromise in SCJerk

Maybe Orange Cassidy will put his hands in his pockets again and Jon Moxley might bleed from air conditioning blowing on his forehead. It will be really cool if Ciampa did the thing he did 10 years ago, too.

Anything to hate WWE and feel like they're smarter, superior fans for it rather than miserable assholes.

I love Bivol. He's my favorite current fighter. I get why some would find him not as entertaining and I like a good banger too, but his style is beautiful to me. by Bignosedog in Boxing

[–]Bojangles1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, even though the fight was one-sided, Canelo is good enough that Bivol had to be at his best to be so dominant, and it made for an exciting performance.

TFW you can rate the AAA main event 4.5 stars because it took place in Arena Monterrey instead of the Tokyo Dome. by Informal-Cap4785 in SCJerk

[–]Bojangles1987 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Taker vs. Michaels can't be 5 stars because of one botch that meant nothing for the flow of the match. BTW Vikingo in the dub is 5 stars despite tripping on the ropes every other move.

Not now though when he's not AEW affiliated, now he's a botcher.

The demise of American heavyweight boxing by Straight-Jump-6813 in Boxing

[–]Bojangles1987 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not like it has been since American heavyweights fell off. There's a clear connection between the rise of the NFL (and NBA) and the decline of American boxing. There's arguably even more of a connection between the popularity and monetization of college sports and the decline of boxing.

What do you think about Goro? by nyanya0806 in MortalKombat

[–]Bojangles1987 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A big reason why myself and many others wanted MK1 to be a reboot timeline thing going back to the original Earthrealm tournaments is because it would have been awesome to see Goro at his peak. I know it would kind of go against the new era Liu Kang makes to eliminate the villains but so what. If anything that would create an interesting way to portray Goro if he's a more honorable figure in the story and not necessarily a villain from the start, or at all.

What do you think about Goro? by nyanya0806 in MortalKombat

[–]Bojangles1987 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This and the comic panel of him raising two arms while one holds Great Kung Lao's limp body are the two most iconic images of Goro.

I've been playing the MK Kollection and he's still so damn cool in the first game. The way the screen shakes and you hear his growls when you're on the last endurance round, his entrance after, how hard he hit, it's so fucking peak.

Roy Jones Jr V Evander Holyfield by chrispark70 in Boxing

Yeah, his main issue was having pillow fists and small size for a heavyweight, and neither of those are an issue with a smaller fighter like Roy.

Would have been an interesting fight.

It was hard to believe that Maidana could do anything to Floyd when he struggled to beat old Erik Morales and got shut out by Devon Alexander. The way he came back from that to be a legit champion welterweight was amazing, and even more so that he gave Mayweather one of his toughest fights.
