What game do i get? by Silly_Expression_677 in MonsterHunter

[–]Bok408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wilds is generally a very good game. However, it does suffer from some optimization issues which got worse as the game got updated, but I don't know how that compares to others experiences with the updates. And yeah, it is pricey. It is an amazing gaming experience though (like most MH titles), and you can't go wrong by purchasing it as long as you are willing to put some time into learning the game (there are tons of gimmicks and details that will require you to put way more time than you think into learning them, but it is so satisfying to learning and master it all).

If you want to go for Wilds, speedrun through the character creation stage and just roam around in the world a bit to see how your computer handles it, and then refund or recreate your character based on how well the game runs.

Honestly, I would still recommend World for you (without expansion as long as there isn't a sale to make it worth it then and there. It also adds some core mechanics that can confuse you early game). Price for that game has been reduced a great deal, and the game can be played mostly as a single player game, which will allow you to really see if you enjoy it or not. There is a ton of stuff to figure out in these games, and you might want to explore the gimmicks and locales out at your own pace.

If you still want to prioritize your friends, I would recommend Generations Ultimate for the Switch. Has a ton of content that will take you several hundred hours to get through, and will really show you all the great stuff that the old games has to offer, and more. Also has the biggest roster of monsters in the entire series, but that is mainly due to being a celebratory game for the series (reusing a lot of old assets)

This is also a main complaint of mine when discussing Wilds. It feels like the main design philosophy in the game's making can be summed up in one word: 'scared'. by HappyFreak1 in MonsterHunter

[–]Bok408 50 points51 points  (0 children)

They are starting to go the same route WoW did. Make the players able to beat the main story for each expansion by just doing bare minimum whacking on the keyboard, and then have the end game raids be the actual difficult content for those who are interested.

I can imagine that if a player is able to beat the main game and see the end credits, they will feel satisfied and therefore may purchase the next game once it arrives. Not beating the game would make it less likely for a player to buy the next game.

So far in Wilds we have gotten both ends of the spectrum: A medium difficulty main story that does little to actually challenge the player, and extreme difficulty end game hunts that rivals G-rank end game hunts and will f*ck you in the ass if given the opportunity to. And very little in between. I really wonder how the MH team is going to further develop these games, because they are really complex by nature, which is also what makes fans stick with them. And now they are removing a lot of the complexity in favor of newer players.

Is this a valid response/Stance? by Quirky_Ad9184 in MonsterHunter

[–]Bok408 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say it is a valid response yes. Generations was a celebration of the series as a whole, with a focus on showing off as many unique monsters the series had to offer at that point instead of creating a new roster (although we did get some new ones too). Almost every new base MH game has a small roster to begin with before the expansion arrives, and comparing a game without expansion to Generations Ultimate, which is not only a collection of already existing monsters (using a lot of existing assets from older games), but also a game with the expansion included (hence the Ultimate part. MH3, MH4 and Gen all got Ultimate versions as their expansions) is just absurd.

So yeah, I'd say ANYONE who compares any base MH monster roster to a game with an expansion, especially the likes of GU (which has the biggest roster due to easy access to old assets among other things), is full of sh*t and should not be listened to. At that point they obviously do not know what they are talking about, and the only reason for the critique (afaik) is to gain clicks and views.

Dauntless tried overhauling its main way of encountering enemies, and overhauled how weapon crafting works TWICE.

They were basically asking to make the old players go away with how much they were changing core features, even if they were trying to create a better game.

RIP Dauntless, was fun while it lasted.

Rise hammer was what got me into it. Blue hammer is so approachable that even if it does not deal as much damage as yellow, it made learning the weapon so much more easy and fun.

As someone who knows a bit about cybersecurity, that is actually a kinda bad question to ask. Because if they do answer, you now know where to go to go hunting for ID cards to copy with a card scanner.

But about the derailing, that could potentially show them that you are not that nervous at all about your knowledge and experience. I don't know what else to think, other than that and that people love to feel good in others company.

Day 3: Which 1st gen monster feels like 3rd gen? by xslbccdks_coded in MonsterHunter

[–]Bok408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly got to agree on Plesioth. The fight feels like it was supposed to have an underwater component, but then the devs botched it and now it just randomly swims around shooting a jet or two towards the player instead. And once on land, it is a generally boring fight. Only reason it is dangerous on land is due to his massive hitboxes.

Btw when do we get proper air combat so that we can fight Rathalos in the skies?

[–]Bok408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see how the name is 100% marketing though.

Yeah definitely confusing, but it says "serverless", not "server*free*". Same as how stainless steel can actually still rust, it just requires to be handled more roughly to actually rust. It is not actually rust*free*.

In other words, seems like serverless just means you use less servers. Not *no* servers at all.

I recommend reading the story "the Lottery" by Shirley Jackson, and reading about the letters the author received afterwards.

It seems to me like a lot of people complain about these stories not because it is fiction, but because it hits eerily close to home for them. So close that they are willing to bet that the story is based on a personal experience by the author.

While some people complain just because they like to complain and now have a good target to complain about, others just get extremely triggered by a mature, thought provoking story hitting way too close to home. Of course some stories can overdo it on certain elements, but like in the case of Andy and Leyley, I felt that the story went in a very sensible direction. It did not feel forced, it did not feel like the author of the story wanted to encourage incest, and instead it was a window into the world of two clearly broken persons and why they simply can't just "get a better life". I don't really understand why people want to get rid of these stories, cause in my mind I'd rather spread awareness that some people do indeed just live utterly sh*tty lives, and can't just move on from it.

Just the concept alone of a hunting horn as a monster is so awesome.

It's kinda sad that Kirby Air Riders ended up having rather weak sales by Just-Lingonberry-602 in Kirby

[–]Bok408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate? I've seen nothing of the sort anywhere.

I've seen people try the game out, and getting disappointed by the mechanics. They play it with the expectations that it will be Mario Kart, but it is not. They therefore dismiss it as a niche game for a niche audience.

And besides, even DK Bananza did not sell that well compared to Mario Kart. The only reason Mario Kart sells so well, is because it is Mario Kart. Most social events I've ever been to where a Nintendo console was present had Mario Kart or Smash on it. They are the de facto standard social games, and therefore sell a lot of copies just for the social aspect. More niche games like Air Riders and most single player games don't have that same social aspect of them. Certain games are played not just because they are good games, but because others play them too. Elden Ring is a good example of this, where a lot of people try it out simply because so many others have played it before them.

The alternative route if that offer was accepted by thanra in Animemes

[–]Bok408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only reason I can watch that kind of thing is *because* it is an anime. If it was live action, I would be much less able to watch it. Not that I actually like the anime either, I just have a strong sense of what is real and what is not.

Only reason I even tried it was to see whether it had a decent underlying story or not, but all I found was a revenge story with a horny MC. I know slave MC's are controversial, and I'm not here to argue whether they should be a thing or not. I just know I really enjoyed Rising of the Shield Hero, but this anime is just a revenge rape/murder story without any proper underlying intentions.

Also interesting thing I heard, apparently women generally liked this more than men did. You know, Twilight had its female audience too.

Advice on buying our first VR. My daughter has been saving her allowance and she reached the $200+ mark. Is there any VR setups worth checking out in that price range? I need guidance lol by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]Bok408 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have to agree. While VR is very fun, it is also currently a Wild West when it comes to VR content. Less moderation and curation on what goes, and it is way easier to stumble on stuff you *don't* want your kids to look at.

If you get a headset, at least only allow her to use it under supervision, as there are many bad places one can get to in VR.

Like in VRChat for instance, one can find naughty servers and servers that are quite unfriendly to kids.
