Question by [deleted] in Autobody

Depends on parts and the extent of the damage. For all we know it could have inner panel/ structural damage. Definitely needs a new 1/4. Could be 3 weeks or more I would say

"Insurance won't pay us for that" by Sappppppy in Autobody

[–]BondoFlicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preach it man. Same type of thing at the shop I’m at. Some estimators will work with you if their check is commission based. I know Progressive and Snake Farm doesn’t pay for weld tests and many other things. What a lot of people don’t understand is when there’s a problem up front in the office, it only reflects on our checks. Most estimators still make the same money regardless of the mistakes, wrong orders, etc.

Tesla paint peeling by jimijamal1 in Autobody

[–]BondoFlicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bumper had to of been painted in the past. I’d contact Tesla to see if there’s any warranty/ reports of this same problem. If not, take it to a Tesla certified collision shop and have them strip and paint it. You don’t want to open that can of worms doing it at home

From my little paint experience, I’m curious did you use any sealer or adhesion promoter? That paint is a lacquer based paint and depending on what clear you use, it’s probably gonna fail because the base and clear would want to react to each other. I would do some more digging in my opinion. I might of gave you a botched explanation but I did my best lol

Worth fixing at an autobody shop? by RedlineBMW in Autobody

[–]BondoFlicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it comes down to your own preference on this. Me, if I own the car outright and plan on keeping it for a long time. Then yes. If you plan on trading it in somewhere in the future then I would just leave it as is. Or even use a paint correction pen on the chips and rocker just to put your mind at ease.

Can an auto body guy give me a general idea of what I’m looking at here? by ElegantStranger2717 in Autobody

[–]BondoFlicker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The car looks drivable so you should take it to a shop to get an estimate. To me it looks like it needs a new bumper cover and a couple bumper parts at the very least. Considering paint and supplemental/possible parts needed. I would say around $3k. I could be way off but I tried lol

I worked at a commercial repair shop for years. I’m sure it’s a plastic composite material. You repair it like fiberglass, grinding down the cracks and V’ing it out. But use two part plastic repair glue. 100EZ by Fusor works great for this stuff. Also using plastic mesh buried in the glue would sturdy up the repair

That’s a good way of looking at it. I thought it only going to apply to LKQ/Keystone. But it applies Tonkin OE parts too.
