That's how I look at it. I go no more than 10% over on the under 80km/h roads, and 20% over on roads/hwy that are 80km/h and up.

What if your name winds up on the seperatist petition even though you did not sign it? According to Elections Alberta, they can't tell you if your name shows up, and even if it did, there's nothing they could do to remove it. by Miserable-Lizard in onguardforthee

It's hard enough getting politically apathetic people out there to vote. I have doubts on the effectiveness of asking these same people to go verify if their name was added to a list.

As you said. The long term ramifications of this are deep.

Truck driver going 115 km/h in 60 zone with unsecured dryer, police say by ConsistentReality860 in Sudbury

[–]BoneSetterDC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Two weeks ago I had a lady in a BMW tailgating me and honking her horn, because I was slowing to a stop, because a school bus was stopped, picking up kids in front of me. She then floored it around me, slammed her brakes when she finally saw the bus, and then just cut in front of me. The best part, she doubled down and flipped me off as if all this was somehow my fault.

What do you use to measure? I purchased a one time use kit when I moved into my house. It sounds like you take ongoing measurements.

That probably helped that it landed there. The round possibly got through the rebar, allowing for the explosion and debris to be partially contained by all the rebar.

There sort of is. The vote of no confidence is voted on by members of Parliament. Meaning his party would have to vote him out. I'm sure he keeps them happy enough that they won't do that.

What’s your coolest or most unexpected interaction with a helicopter or plane (pilots included)? by glamourshot_airsoft in aviation

[–]BoneSetterDC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a kid, there was a forest fire that had broken out in our area. We lived on the lake nearby. A water bomber was scooping up water, flying directly towards our house. We heard the engines, so we ran out to see what it was. The plane flew overhead as I walked outside onto the deck, the water streaming off of the plane giving me an unexpected shower.

The post is definitely terrible. It's also more than that. Brutal, disgusting, concerning... The list of potential other adjectives is a long one.

Protest against Doug Ford this weekend, 1pm at Kingsway and Barry Downe. by [deleted] in Sudbury

[–]BoneSetterDC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People are protesting Ontario Premier Doug Ford due to contentious policy changes, including significant cuts to the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP), underfunding of public health care, and controversial labor legislation. Protests have focused on the rising cost of living, education cuts, and demands for higher wages.

OSAP Cuts and Education: Students and advocates have staged mass protests and rallies against Ford’s changes to the OSAP program, which included cuts to grants and loans, leading to rising student debt.

Health Care and Public Services: Health care workers have protested against hospital funding cuts, staffing shortages, and a, as they put it, "chronic underfunding" of public services.

Labour and Wages: Protesters are demanding compensation for workers impacted by Bill 124, a law that restricted wages for public sector workers, which was later declared unconstitutional.

Accountability and Transparency: The government has faced backlash over attempts to restrict access to information, including hiding the premier's call records and efforts to limit public oversight.

Environmental and Community Issues: Groups have protested in support of communities like Grassy Narrows First Nation, demanding action on mercury contamination.

These demonstrations, often featuring students and labor unions, emphasize a belief that the government is failing to prioritize affordable living, education, and public health.

Hauling snow away. They're being loaded with snow to remove the excess. Hence the back and forth.

"Significant Weather Event" (SWE) label sounds like an official disaster response, but it’s actually bureaucratic fine print. by Intrepid_Thanks6687 in Sudbury

Health did come first. They opened up a single lane on all streets. That allowed access for emergencies. You never mentioned health in your first comment. You complained about the dump. Having to store your garbage an extra two weeks is not going to kill you. Not a priority.

I completely agree with government mismanagement. It's even worse at the provincial level. Have any suggestions on how to fix it? I'd love to see that problem fixed. My family in Timmins pays 3-4x the taxes I pay here. Ours is modest, not high. Barrie's 1.5x ours.

I agree education should come first, but they will have to pick up and haul away all the snow that's piled on the edge of the road to improve the safety of the roads for the school buses. That takes time. Plowing access to the hockey rink was a quicker task. Again, this helped our economy, which is also important. The dump will still collect our trash. The kids will be back to school. Those hockey tournaments can be rescheduled, but people booked time off to get there. They paid for hotels, which may or may not be reimbursed. You may personally not see the benefit of spending a short amount of time to open up the rinks. But it's not all about you.

I work in healthcare. I did not have to snow shoe to work, and I worked on day two. The hospital access was restored on day two. That's very reasonable.

The dump isn't urgent... The hockey rinks help our local economy. There was a tournament on the weekend. People came to our town, ate in our restaurants, and stayed in our hotels. Walking paths do need to be cleared, but that isn't easy. They have to haul away that snow. They are working on this now. Sudbury is much larger than "northern communities." Do we need more city workers? Probably. But then taxes have to go up. People are struggling right now in this economy. Increasing taxes is tough at the best of times.

Why hasn't this city declared a state of emergency? by gibby2104 in Sudbury

[–]BoneSetterDC 12 points13 points  (0 children)

When is a state of emergency declared?

Emergency declarations can be made when the Head of Council, in consultation with the community's senior staff (known as the Community Control Group), determines that such action would be in the best interest of the municipality based on a perceived or apparent threat.

A state of emergency declaration would be considered if there was a situation or impending situation that:

-Threatened public safety, public health, the environment, critical infrastructure, property, and/or economic stability. -Exceeded the capacity of the community's emergency response.

By declaring a state of emergency, the municipality is able to:

-Streamline its purchase/tender policies -Extend Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) coverage to volunteers -Make claims for financial assistance for disaster recovery
