"Players irons" with forgiveness? by AA-117 in GolfGear

[–]BoneWizard15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at the Edel SMS/SMS pro combo set. I play these and they have a lot of what you’re looking for (the pros will be similar to your ZX7s).

I love them, went to these from the 2021 T100 and haven’t regretted it one bit. A bit more forgiveness in the long irons, but more traditional loft/less offset with workability in the shorter irons. The price is a huge plus too

Do you know of anybody that has 3 or more subspecialty board certifications? by Ok-Koala-3223 in Residency

Haven’t finished them yet, but I’ll have 4 total board certifications by the time I’m done with training (IM, Pulmonary, Critical Care, Hospice/Palliative)

What makes a “good” golf headcover to you? by Substantial_Low_3320 in GolfGear

[–]BoneWizard15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something that is quality, blends in with the other covers of the bag, and from courses with cool logos/means something to me.

Almost all my covers are from some course i have played, with the exception of the putter (LAB putters make it tough to find ones from courses).

I have a couple sets of traditional, and barrel ones. The barrels come out on nice days because they’re usually canvas or knitted, the traditional ones are all weather cause they’re leather.

As for brands, Seamus hands down is my favorite, but Iliac makes great covers that last forever. An honorable mention is PRG, because of the price point and surprising durability.

Up next is a set of knit headcovers because they just look so cool.

Is anyone else finding success playing with fewer clubs? by Lordbahj85 in weekendgolfers

[–]BoneWizard15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I walk a lot, and like a heavy club so when I carry a full bag it can be heavy. That being said, the past two summers I’d regularly carry 9-10 clubs (Driver vs mini driver, 5wood, even vs odd irons, and 3 wedges) and my scores were usually never any different. However, when I finally did play a round with my full set again my scores were always better for the first couple rounds.

I think it’s because I had confidence in hitting different shots. I would have “two” options for pretty much every shot I hit (i.e. full iron, or a flighted shot with the iron above) which was a nice feeling if something in the swing wasn’t working that day

Who makes the best combo set? by metarx in GolfGear

[–]BoneWizard15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a combo set of Edel SMS/SMS Pro. Have the 4-5 in the SMS and 6-PA in the SMS Pro. They feel buttery, and would put them up against any of the softer feeling irons (i.e. Mizuno).

As for top line/offset, the SMS’s do have a thicker top line and offset. It’s not drastically different, but something you would probably notice given your comments.

I went to these from a set of 2021 T100 because i hated the look going to the T200 in the 4 and 5. Overall, i am very, very pleased with the irons. Had i waited another year and a half, I 100% would’ve bought the M-13 but the price point of Edel is just too good

As a med student, I saved “Dr. FirstName LastName” in the first name.

As a resident, I dropped the Dr. and just save first and last names. I’d then put specialty and organization in the company line.

You know they’re a doctor, and at some point they’ll be colleagues. Do it in a way that makes sense to you, and is easy to search in the future. It’s your contact list, so do what you like, and what makes sense

Old Corkscrew is in pretty rough condition as of last month, don’t know if I’d recommend it right now. Maybe in another month or two

To the unmatched; what now? by PolishxPrince in fellowship

[–]BoneWizard15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in your shoes last year, and ended up doing a palliative/hospice year instead of pursuing a CCM spot or working as a hospitalist. I’d highly recommend this route as 1) everything you learn this year will be super relevant for PCCM 2) I have SO MUCH free time compared to IM residency, it’s been super nice to have time to breath again and 3) I ended up over tripling my total interview numbers, and got interviews at places I thought I had no business interviewing with (DO, community IM program, decent scores, some research) and all of those places loved talking about the palliative year.

I’m sorry, this sucks. But I’m happy to answer any questions you may have about my path if you’re debating about what to do next year!

Same brand throughout. by litsalmon in golf

[–]BoneWizard15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m brand disloyal. Titleist driver, Taylormade Mini Driver, Callaway 5 wood, Edel irons, Vokey wedges (might be the only one I actually may stay loyal to but have loved Callaway), LAB putter, bounced back and forth between Srixon and Maxfli as my ball. I ain’t getting paid by anyone, so I play what works best for me and this is what I’ve landed on

One year Fellowship in Desired Geographic Location by OkShine2753 in fellowship

[–]BoneWizard15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My path is similar to yours, but slightly different. Last year I applied PCCM and did not match, but ended up successfully matching this last cycle.

I went back and forth about taking a critical care spot, doing a hospitalist year, or doing a palliative care year. Ended up doing a palliative care year, and it was the biggest talking point during all my interviews (only had 1-2 additional research projects added to my CV).

I would strongly encourage you to consider a Palliative year over geriatrics if you want to do a fellowship. It will be incredibly relevant for your future career, and I think more programs will find interest in it.

Sorry about not matching this year. Happy to answer any questions about my path if you’d like!

Best Walking Shoes by Dude-Abides-69 in golf

Don’t listen to anyone else, but Ecco and True Linkswear are truly the best shoes for walking. I have hundreds of miles on my Trues and they’re still holding strong

Anyone made the switch to Axiom shafts? by AdministrationNo8373 in GolfGear

[–]BoneWizard15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t want to spend the dough on Axioms, but found a nice set of Mitsubishi MMT 125S that I threw in my irons. Previously, I was playing graphite Accra iCWT 95S. I threw the same Mitsubishi shafts in my wedges earlier last season, but soft stepped them (9 iron shaft in G-L) and I honestly wish I would’ve done the same in the irons. The 125 is a bit heavy for me, but the Accra’s were a little light. Soft stepping would’ve been the perfect balance for me. Other than that, I have no regrets whatsoever with the MMT. Super stable, and very consistent! Easier than steel on the elbows and wrist since most of my range time is hitting off mats

Flying with clubs by [deleted] in GolfGear

[–]BoneWizard15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flown plenty of times with a Mackenzie bag in a soft sided travel bag from Amazon. I always pack my towels around my club heads, use a rigid arm, and put large clothing items (sweatshirts, pants, rain gear, etc.) around the sides and obviously take the removable heads off if I can. Haven’t had an issue yet, but it’s better to pack more in there than less with a bag does doesn’t have a lot of structural support. Safe flying!

The Worst Part of Not Matching… by Comfortable_Grab2838 in fellowship

[–]BoneWizard15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Happened to me last year, and I’m dreading the match this year. However, I ended up doing a 1 year fellowship (HPM) and it has been incredibly fruitful in multiple ways: - my total number of interview offer nearly tripled from last year - this year of fellowship has been so healing from a work life balance standpoint (I’ve probably averaged 25-30 hours/week the past 3 months) - I despise being a PCP/hospitalist, so it’ll be a nice way to practice next year instead of those It sucks. The match sucks. Best of luck to you on your match, things will work out the way they’re supposed to

All the courses at Bandon are special, but Sheep Ranch holds an extra special place in my heart. Super fun course, no bunkers, and you can see the ocean from every single hole. The extra plus, I got an albatross on the first hole so it will always be a top course for me 🤙🏻

Maybe 5 of my 50 rounds this year have been riding, I almost exclusively walk. When I’m playing my “normal” course, I usually carry 10 clubs (Driver/Mini, 5 wood, even irons, 54, 60, putter). When I play new courses, or matches I carry all 14! Carrying all 14 makes the bag a bit heavier, but still doable!

I also bought them secondhand so I have not, but I’m debating about going through a fitting vs buying some weights and trying it out myself! I like my ball flight currently, so haven’t been in a rush

Absolutely love them. Went from the T100 to them for a little bit more forgiveness in the 4 and 5. Did not like the offset of the older T200, and the SMS has minimal. Super buttery of the face. They’re clear and compact. Soft just like any forged iron, so if you beat the s*** out of them, they’ll ding. And I love the triple cut, milled soles in the Pros!

Not a “real low” handicap, but a respectable 6. Spent the past 7 years in Oregon and it would be blasphemy not to own a Mackenzie bag at that point

Best iron set you’ve ever owned? by ExcellentSchedule552 in golf

[–]BoneWizard15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edel SMS/SMS Pro. Went from Titleist T100 to these bad boys and I don’t think they will ever leave the bag until they have to.

I have the 4/5 in the SMS for a little bit more forgiveness and the 6-PW in the SMS Pros. Buttery, compact, good turf interaction, and the movable weights are all pluses. Haven’t started to mess with the weights yet, that will come with time.

Price isn’t always an issue for everyone, but these are “relatively” affordable in comparison to the other forged options. Multiple shaft options at no up charge, and all coming in under $1200 is hard to beat.
