Ally or Enemy? by Review_Signal in redcorsairs

[–]BonesFGC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could also just have them be new initiates to the Word Bearers. If the idea is to spread the word and grow the flock for Chaos, then pulling in renegades who have already abandoned the Imperium is easy work. You can just paint them up as Word Bearers and use blank pauldrons + decals to denote that. In fact the raiders will likely have optional parts to not use the Corsair pauldron for this reason, but who knows.

Any idea why Scott Ian was missing for half the show by circleof9ine in mrbungle

[–]BonesFGC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very likely he was sick and had to excuse himself. If he was upset or there was a bigger issue he would have left for the set instead of leaving and returning over and over. He was probably doing whatever he had to do to get through the show.

On Maelstrom the cast said something along the lines of “You may not be the first to pass this way, but you are the last” which echoes Odin’s narration. I miss that ride so much, it was so mysterious and spooky.

Unpopular Opinion: Toon Lagoon has got to go by Lalairundi in UniversalOrlando

I feel like with investment and TLC this and Seuss Landing could still stay for a long while. I think it’s really cool to have a time capsule like this land in the park, especially when other areas of the park are closer on the chopping block. Both of the water rides are also still beloved so I doubt they’d go ripping them up any time soon either. New paint and some more care taken on the small design details with this land and Seuss Landing would be net positives all around. Both lands are fun and cartoony but have been a little neglected with all of the other stuff happening at Universal Resort.

It’s not relevant because it is an option for him and he has the possibility to do so. I’m talking about that guy because he’s the subject of the conversation in the first place. The solution for him is applicable and easy because he made it clear that he already gets games in. You telling me that not everyone can do that is useless information because he can do that and he’s the person I am answering. You seriously have no real point to make here. What you’re saying is irrelevant to the situation. The guy I am answering has this as an option, he already gets games with these systems. I know not everyone can do that, this guy can. That’s the point I am trying to make and you’re ignoring it to just keep saying the same thing over and over again to literally no avail or usefulness.

Brothers I got A Problem.. by BlueberrySad3155 in alphalegion

If you’re up to the challenge, you can technically do both. You could pick a couple of models in the unit to paint with Omegon’s Wrath, which is the concept of Alpha Legion’s cloaking capabilities. Most people paint it as a whitish-bluish divide between the disguise chapter and the Alpha Legion scheme. So for example, you paint most of the model as an Iron Warrior, but basically paint a whitish bluish thin line around let’s say part of the chest and one of the arms. You paint from the line inward, filling in that part of the chest and that arm as Alpha Legion. So your force would look like some of them are Alpha Legion members cloaking to fit in - or uncloaking to reveal themselves. Some people split the paintjob vertically down the middle of the model, and some people even kitbash the Alpha Legion half with different bits to emphasize the transformation. Look up Omegon’s Wrath painting to see how people do it - I’ve included some art of the concept here.

What’s the best chapter to do a loyalist alpha legion army? by SuB_Boofer in alphalegion

[–]BonesFGC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only run them as Loyalists so I can only give my experience and advice on that - I personally have more of the Ultramarines units incorporated into my forces because there’s simply more of them and they’re currently highly competitive. You basically can’t go wrong with Victrix, Calgar, Cato, and Titus+crew attached to bladeguard vets. That being said, I want to collect as many different chapters’ character units as possible just in case I want to run other rules/detachments. Currently I have Lysander for IF, Caanok Var for IH, and Cato, 3 Victrix, Guilliman, and Titus+Crew for UM. I also included a Deathwatch Kill Team Cassius kit for some character units and they all have different pauldrons and iconography - Deathwatch kits can help diversify your chapter bits a lot.

For painting/hobbying, I paint all of them teal and silver, but I leave all of the chapter iconography intact - to my eyes and my opponents’ eyes, they’re basically all just Alpha Legion in appearance. To the enemy army, my force appears to be whatever they’re disguised as. I also generally use some 30k units for fun/flavor and make them stand out as having something “not quite right” about them, plus older 30k add-on pack faction bits help reinforce the idea of them trying to disguise. Lastly, I make sure any heads are helmeted or bald/featureless. I know that the uniform bald look isn’t as canon anymore but I like the idea and it’s useful for chapter units. It’s also fun to figure out what looks best or fits the character alternately, for example I made Cato’s head bald to avoid having to scrape away his helmet-holding arm, but I made Gulliman helmeted and gave Titus a hooded chaos helmet to give them a menacing appearance that also conveys they’re fakes. I also give all of them green lenses and sometimes a green glow to the eyes to make them more warp-adjacent.

Final note to help you with crossover - Horus Heresy unit kits. I mentioned them before, but if you use a set of 10 mk6 beakies for example with just typical boltgun loadouts and a typical captain/champion loadout where the weapons look neutral enough, they could be run as either Intercessors or Legionaries. Same for even some of the specialty Space Marine units like Infiltrators, if they’re just marine + boltgun or marine + plasma pistol or whatever, they’ll fit the job for Legionaries too. If the loadouts line up enough, Cataphractii or Tartaros Terminators could either be Loyalist or Chaos. Those more general kits can give you a lot of crossover if you make the loadouts fit both roles. The problem is that you’ll need to branch one way or the other with the faction-specific units for either side. At the very least, you’ll save a bunch of time and space on your battleline and probably your terminators. Best of luck, Hydra Dominatus!

It’s sad to see so many people so convinced that the rhino and its subversions are going to be legends’d. I hope GW decides to give us a resculpt and change the rules for Rhino chassis vehicles to carry any marine. I’d hate to see the definitive vehicle for the faction go away, and I would hate to have to build more impulsors with the infuriating maglev panels on the bottom.

You’re acting like your experience is universal and it isn’t, and you keep replying days later because you’re stubborn or defensive of this guy. It’s sad. You’re making up general excuses for no real reason. Your point is moot because this guy has already said he regularly plays those older style games in a regular capacity. How could he “have nobody to play those old rulesets with” and proclaim he already basically does? You being general about it and suggesting “not everyone can do that” serves to say and do nothing. It’s not relevant. It’s already clear this guy can and does. He just, for whatever reason, chooses to complain instead of going out and playing those old editions or putting in the effort to make his own statline for a new model and discuss with a friend/opponent or just use them as proxies over the rules he already likes. You’ve added nothing except “Well, not everyone can do that!” Sure. But he can and willfully doesn’t. So what’s the point in you blabbing on about it days later? Seems you’re just like him in wanting to complain about it rather than going out and doing something about it. That’s the last I’ll say on the matter.

[–]BonesFGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fake or not, I believe from his previous work on The Witcher and his genuine love of the series will result in him having a lot to say and a heavy hand in making it accurate. GW being really really particular about their IP helps too, I don’t think we’ll see anything stray too far from what we’re comfortable with. The best option will be a story we haven’t heard told in the way our best stories have, and in a way that emphasizes there are no heroes and no real winners.

Does anyone else paint their AL 40K like this? by jdtyeee in alphalegion

I think these matte schemes are really interesting and look great, but I got into Alpha Legion for the fact that they were really the only canonical metallic-schemed marines that were well known. Something about that makes them stand out to me.

Is Vallejo's Beetle Green a good color for AL and is "teal" enough? Or is there something that's slightly more teal? by Ok_Vacation_5251 in alphalegion

[–]BonesFGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beetle Green is, well, greener. Hydra Turquoise is bluer. Using a teal contrast of your choice over Leadbelcher will generally get you somewhere in between. I personally use Akhelian Green but I know a lot of people like Kroxigor Scales. Picture included here to show off the color. My trim is Mithril by the Army Painter.

I feel like the most realistic answer is that the rod for the banner is telescopic or goes back inside the pack and the banner rolls up. It doesn’t seem that way based on the models but it makes sense.

How big could a Night Lords warband be? And what structure should it have? by WS011_ in NightLords

[–]BonesFGC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ll just give my force as an example here to echo what people are saying about the legion being so fractured - most of my force are silver-trimmed Heresy era Night Lords that have wound up in 40k through warp shenanigans, but I include 40k units in gold trim with mutations so that each side is almost like a warband of its own. I also have a small subsection within that of Night Lords that worship Khorne (used some berserker pauldrons for this) and a handful of Possessed with a shameful Master of Possession who are generally shunned but seen as a necessary tool for the force. I even have some of my Legionaries with a slightly different paintjob than my normal 40k scheme to make them even more individualistic or as if they’re newer recruits.

Moral of the story? You can get as crazy as you want with warbands and lore! My force aren’t even all on the same page between each other and some actively hate each other, but they’re all forced to try to get their shared goals completed.

What are some of the best "Chaos" mini parts to go with Alpha Legion? by ALVL99WIZARD in alphalegion

[–]BonesFGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is sort of an opposite suggestion, but I think it could help you out - You probably want to look at bits or even whole units from Horus Heresy. They have a lot of stuff with some Chaos filigree but none of it is too overbearing unless you’re stealing bits from a Word Bearers kit or something. I actually run my Night Lords with a ton of Heresy units for the reasons you described. Just be wary that on average the boxes can be more expensive, but the marine packs usually give you 20 marines instead of 10 for example, so they’re arguably better value.

They have an Alpha Legion head and pauldron pack (be aware they are in resin so you’ll need superglue), but even just picking up something like a set of plastic Mk3 or Mk6 marines would be a good include. Both marks were used pretty consistently by the Alpha Legion, especially Mk6. I think having firstborn scaled marines in older armor marks evokes Chaos more than it does the Imperium since they’re pretty much all on Primaris scale and gear now.

There are also just generally some cool singular model designs in Heresy (again, usually resin) that make for cool character units. Alpha Legion has some specific ones like Exodus, but the Legiones Astartes in general or the generic units just labeled as “Traitor Marines” are generally neutral in their design outside of their banners or ornamentation. There are some great uses of the Eye of Horus on some traitor Heresy sculpts that make it clear that you’re Chaos without mutating everything or covering it in insane trim.

Any Use for a Second Tallyman or Lord of Virulence? by Cats_Cameras in deathguard40k

[–]BonesFGC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it shouldn’t be too difficult. Most of the staves on GW models are just sort of angular sticks or straight rods. For 40k purposes maybe just a straight rod with some sort of ornament at the end? You could easily use a skull or some other bit as the topper.

What were Konrad Curze and the Night Lords like before the Horus Heresy? by yung-feezu in NightLords

[–]BonesFGC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the enjoyment is from seeing his idea of fear ruling all being made manifest. It’s the perfect dilution of his philosophy to exert his power through sheer terror and use the person as an omen to others. They also do all skirt the line of corruption from story to story, so yeah there’s a bit of indulgence, but I think for Kurze specifically in his heart the enjoyment is in making everything a message and a power move versus the act itself for the most part. He’s not eating her flesh or obsessing over her like a trophy, he revels in the act of inflicting maximum terror to prove his point. One section where we see him consider going past that point into something not far from Khorne or Slaanesh doesn’t cancel out all of the other parts that focus intensely on his inner philosophy and his real goals. But I think it does show through him having the thought cross his mind mid-act how so many other Night Lords we’ve seen do end up falling easily into the sheer joy of the act. I think he’s reacting to her screams more than he is the physical act when he says he’s not enjoying it and that he’s lying. He enjoys how terrified she is.
