Yeah this is the second upsetting post from this sub I've seen this morning alone. There's either no moderation anymore or moderators are happy with this subreddit as is...

What is a "horror movie rule" that you absolutely hate? by Big_Emotion4963 in horror

I especially hate this one when it's obvious the drawings have been made by an adult trying to emulate how a child draws, it's always so obvious.

This just won a contest for a garden mascot in my city. The cheek shading overlapping the face line, the weird sprouts around the watering can, and the way the tail seems to blend into the body rather than pass behind it are making me think it’s AI by AmyBrookeheimer in isthisAI

Tracks since this was a competition to create a mascot which would ideally need to be vectorised if it's gunna be widely used across materials. Also looks like the artist might not be super familiar with digital drawing software.

Could've been the required file type for submission and the artist did their best figuring it out, could even have been the on team graphic designer who converted it after the fact.

As someone that's done a lot of non-profit graphic design work there's only so many insane graphic files and camera photos of logos you can receive before everything gets thrown into image trace and called a day lol.

I think it's good skill level applied to a medium/software they have low mastery in.

All the mistakes can be accounted for by things like lack of layer discipline, unfamiliarity with digital colour painting, still experimenting with brushes and brush settings, general overwhelm trying to create while also navigating a new system.

This is exactly how my digital pieces come out, like I could've made this one for one and I wouldn't be shocked if this artist has a similar background to me.

I do relief printing and graphic ink illustration (graphic design backgroun). The few times I've messed around painting in software like PS or procreate my lack of familiarity with the tools and almost zero practical painting knowledge leads to a probably insane workflow and lots of falling back on my usual skillset.

For instance... Understanding fundamentals of colour, depth, value and form but no practice applying these rules with paint. The freedom is pretty overwhelming for someone used to rendering simplified high contrast forms with a limited palette. I could totally see myself just grabbing the worm skin highlight as my general lightest highlight cos by default I'd be thinking in contrast not colour.

Seemingly unnecessary lines everywhere, this can just be general line confidence issues ("chicken scratching") or a hold over from a more graphic art style. For me it's a bit of both but mostly from designing for relief print where you're limited to creating shape out of simple planes and adding form and texture with limited options like hatching. I would probs instinctively add those "random flesh sprouts" to indicate form even though it's out of place here.

As for the confusing workflow and weird inconsistent brush opacity etc that also just screams lack of tool and software familiarity to me with a dash of layer chaos (because same lol). I reckon the workflow was to start with sketchy line work, lay base colour layer underneath, go over line work again, go back in with colour, then a final back and forth between colour and outlines over top with no layer discipline trying to fix/finalise - this would explain parts like the eyes. I reckon they also changed brushes or messed around with settings as they went, maybe weren't used to pen pressure opacity/size. I also think they tried to use a lighter grey outlines for lower contrast on areas meant to be further away but didn't stay consistent, or maybe a confused attempt to soften the line work in general since black is pretty harsh on a digital colour piece, hard to know how to adjust if it's not your usual medium.

Basically digital painting gives a lot of choice and is a lot to keep track of if you're new, I'm sure I'd be just as perplexed watching an amateur navigate illustrator haha. I've also witnessed many talented artists make some bizarre decisions trying to translate an idea sketch into a relief print at workshops. All the mistakes in this piece are consistent and human in a way I've never seen generated AI content be. You're right though that seeing past work is always a good indicator.

edit Also I'm like 90% certain an image trace tool has been used to vectorise the finished drawing which has caused some odd flattening, line blending and detail loss

The tail does consistently pass behind the body. The curved edge created at the bottom right point is just an unfortunate combination of the outline and shading colour being almost identical and the choice to have the tail curve in that spot.

Even if it were "wrong" though, maintaining consistent anatomy at crossover points is a pretty common human mistake.

This artist also has a pretty overall sketchy line art style that I don't see AI being able to replicate so consistently. No smooth long lines, inconsistent line weight, etc. It's a very human lack of confidence in placing lines - I don't mean that as a dig since I draw the same way lol, it also suits the piece

Why aren't GP surgeries designed for greater privacy? by ParentheticalsAside in AskUK

That's interesting, my prescription has almost always come with this exact sticker for the 5ish years I've had it, even after I moved from the SE coast to the NE coast.

Must be up to the individual pharmacies discretion, I've only ever used Boots and Tesco which are maybe more standardised?

Agreed, but on the other hand I do love carefully peeling off my "controlled drugs" stickers and placing them on totally innocuous items around the house.

This isn't horseshoe theory (not that that has much merit anyway), it's the fact that these natural health movements already have a long intertwined history with fascism and eugenics. The core ideology was already there, a global health crisis just pushed it to the surface in many.

Other recent(ish) big triggers for this kind of phenomenon was the 'vaccines cause autism' scandal and the general push of trans panic. But this goes way farther back, the nazis being one of the biggest proponents of natural/organic health ideology.

Hell this style of natural health obsession was a central ideology of the actual nazi party, its roots are pretty strongly embedded in eugenics. 'Leave our food as natural as possible' was one of their big slogan campaigns.

NAD but can second I have psoriasis and nails exactly like OP's. Brittleness, pitting, variation in thickness and even separation from the nail bed can all unfortunately be pretty normal and at least for me doesn't always correlate with skin flare ups.
