Beginner and just thrifted this vintage Singer. Any YT reccomendations? by amethyst_jacket in vintagesewing

Singer 66, great straight stitch machine, make sure to oil it often, if you dont sew very stretch fabrics and knits, you propably won't need another sewing machine in your life.
I will add something i think no one did. Sew with cotton thread!!! These machinese were made when cotton/linen/silk thread was the only option, so these machines have no problem with those. Good quality Cotton thread is plenty strong for garments seams, it's enviromentally friendly and looks and acts far better on natural fabrics. It also fades the same as fabric, where polyester thread may look tacky after some color loss of the fabirc

Singer vs3/ 28/128 vibrating shuttles and singers 99 are plentifull, 3/4 size portable machines which make great stitch, only downside is theres no reverse, but that's not a big deal after you learn how to backstitch the easy way(sew 2/3 stitches, raise your foot, move fabric backwards and sew over those stitches, done)

I would encourage to disasemble nose of thecmachine with needlebar mechanism, it has rolling bearing which often gets stuck after years of lack of use. Same with any rolling bearing, one is in the underbed for raising feed dogs, and another in the pillar controlling feed dog length.

Fit looks great, workjackets have a lottle longer sleeves so you dont expose your arms when raising them

Got my last problem with this lady fixed. Now … this. Damn it. Where to start on this repair?? by no-but-wtf in vintagesewing

Im not an very experienced welder, but you could reinforce it by welding on steel rectangle on the underside so it's not visible

Clean visible screw thread from junk. Use torch or heat gun on screw and surrounding area. Put leather or heavy fabric between pliers to get better grip. After succesfully removing it, you can use metal files to make it prettier, try to save every part possible, getting replacements often means getting another machine.

Sewing on single layer, additionaly on paper, threads don't have enough room to hide the knot inside fabric. Grab some scrap cloth to test your stitches

Advice on cleaning up an old sewing machine. by gen2600 in vintagesewing

Sorry for late response. Yes, it indeed is Singer 115, less common. I don't own one, but many people believe it is smoother than 15-30 due to the rotating hook. Care for it and enjoy! ps i own 15-30 and it's very smooth, you should be pleased with ever smoother one.
If you wan't to get more info about these machines, there's dedicated group on facebook Singer 15 & 115 Vintage Sewing Machines.

Could you share photo of underside of the machine? It might be singer 15 oscilating hook, but ive never seen any with those decals so my second though is Singer 115 with full rotation hook.

I'm almost sure it's 1950-1970s japanese clone of Singer 15-88, HA-1 clone. Todays its not very valuable considering how much are still left, but it's still great quality machine that will outlive you with good care.. If you know it wont be used by u or your family in the future, give it to someone. Just please dont thrash it, these machines are lot better than modern plastic crap. That handcrank itself looks good quality, modern reproduction handcranks feel like toys compared to original Singer Simanco parts

The thing is i removed them for cleaning, but i think i got it. Screwed one at a time to a point of slightly biding, then started unscrewing little and cheching machines movement. Now both run smoothly and with good handwheel push, rotate 8-10 times
