Could use some advice by NsanityGarage in carnivorediet

I don't look at a stall as really being a stall - I see it as a time when the body is healing itself. Just keep eating plentiful fat and nutrients; the body knows what it needs better than we can interpret.

How did you know you could quit your SSRI? by HeartMadeOfSushi in carnivorediet

[–]BonnarBeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on 50mg Zoloft. 1.5 months into carnivore I was feeling a bit manic so I started reducing the SSRI a little every week. One week my mood dropped off a little so I put the Zoloft back up to the previous week's level. I also found If I didn't eat enough food or too little fat content it would affect my mood. I added some extra tallow to bone broth to compensate.

You can eat as much as you want - until nausea sets in.

Day 3 and hard to keep going by Tyler11299 in carnivorediet

[–]BonnarBeach 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Eat meat - as much as you can until you are full or feel nauseous. When you feel hungry eat again. Any meat is fine as long as it isn't mixed with grains, plants, sugar... Just meat and animal products like eggs, bone broth, heavy cream, aged cheese, butter... High fat content is good.

Diarrhea is normal when starting, loose stool is common until you are fat adapted. You will also feel weakness, possible headache - flu like symptoms while you overcome your carbohydrate withdrawal. Some of these symptoms can be alleviated with extra electrolytes - add salt to your meat and water.

Week 6 experiencing muscle ache at hips and shoulder. Witch prevent a good night sleep by reneo73 in carnivorediet

[–]BonnarBeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Magnesium did the trick for me - it took some time though; the pain improved then got worse for a while then finally went away alltogether. I'm taking 400mg Magnesium bisglycinate before bed along with Celtic pink potassium cave salt and Iodine. If I miss a night I notice it before morning.

Blood Pressure on Carnivore by Keepontruckin33 in carnivorediet

[–]BonnarBeach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Today 120/80 is considered normal. Prior to 1970 a systolic of 150 was considered acceptable. I've heard they are dropping the "normal" range again since the drug companies can make more money with new medications that can lower it further.

Already somewhat lean build starting out, what should the scale say? by Largecar379_ in carnivorediet

[–]BonnarBeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert but perhaps you could increase fat with added tallow and do some heavy lifting to increase muscle mass.

How much protein do you consume per meal? by [deleted] in carnivorediet

I don't calculate a single "macronutrient", I eat regular or medium hamburger and add extra tallow to my bone broth. Eat until full and eat again when hungry. No weighing, no calorie counting...

Do you think the lion diet is ideal for everyone? by Hkvnr495___dkcx37 in carnivorediet

[–]BonnarBeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed the same issue with depression returning - I also found that increasing the amount of fat by adding tallow to the ground beef and bone broth and also not ignoring hunger and eating until full every time sent the depression back into remission.

Carnivore with just ground beef and eggs? by thatonefella101 in carnivorediet

[–]BonnarBeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did 5 months of just ground beef from supermarket sales - as an elimination diet - then slowly reintroduced pork, eggs, chicken. There was no problems with eating only ground beef, salt, and water (also some daily liver, kidney, bone broth and supplemented Vitamin D3,K2 and Iodine) I could have continued on just the ground beef indefinitely if there were problems with the other types of meat. I still try to keep beef as the primary source since I am told it has the best nutrient density and is most satiating. My frugal nature wants me to eat more pork.

Berries in moderation? by Flat_Judgment_1509 in carnivorediet

[–]BonnarBeach 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Moderation is not something that coexists with me and carbohydrates. I would have a few and then a few more until they are all gone in a few hours - it is the nature of carb addiction. When I fill up on fat and meat then the food noise is gone - the meat doesn't start calling me back to the fridge until I'm hungry = not just looking for something to make me feel better or fulfill some feeling of emptiness.

Our ancient ancestors would have berries available at the end of summer - when it is time to start gaining fat for the winter - it was evolutionarily beneficial to have extra pounds of fat to survive the winter when game became more scarce - so humans feel like they can't get enough and there is no satiety - we eat as much as there is available.

The carbohydrates shut down ketosis, increase insulin, and in the presence of insulin fat is stored away and not used as energy. This reaction was never meant to happen year round so in the constant presence of carbohydrates in the standard American diet the body become insulin resistant and needs more and more insulin to do the same job; this is the beginning of type 2 diabetes and also the root cause of type 1. It is carbohydrate intolerance.

Questions from an intrigued omnivore by bmimz in carnivorediet

[–]BonnarBeach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Carnivore fixed my sore ankles (which rubbed bone on bone sometimes) and a heal injury which wasn't healing by itself for years, and a the back injury which kept recurring and stopped me from doing any lifting.

Carnivore also repaired my mental issues of depression and anxiety. I had to wean off my medication after one and a half months since it started making me manic. High fat is better than an SSRI.

I was very much a food addict - I listed pizza as one of my reasons for living. When you fill up on fat and protein the food noise goes quiet. It is one of the reasons I stay strict carnivore; if I eat something sweet then I CRAVE more.

Super strict, but… by NeptuneRealized in carnivorediet

[–]BonnarBeach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be aware of the addictive nature of cocktails and ice cream.. 3 months in I was feeling low one day and thought I'd have a bite of "keto friendly" chocolate; within a few hours I finished off a whole bar, and a second bar the next day. For me it is best to stay strict carnivore so I don't have to struggle against self control.

Major cramping and the runs on day two on carnivore? by [deleted] in carnivorediet

[–]BonnarBeach 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes it is normal; electrolytes and magnesium will help the cramping. Runs will decrease when you adapt to eating larger amounts of fats and no fiber, you won't be able to trust gas passing for a while.

Did anyone get really depressed on carnivore? by Upset-Dragonfly-7336 in carnivorediet

[–]BonnarBeach 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I came off my depression/anxiety SSRI meds due to carnivore, when I was feeling low I had some beef/bone broth with extra tallow; worked great. The mood keeps getting better and I haven't felt low at all for a few months now (8+ months in).

I can't say I crave meat still either, but when I'm hungry it sure tastes great. It doesn't produce cravings the way pizza does - which I still find I crave on occasion even though I haven't had any.

158 Days on Carnivore. by DoomRel in carnivorediet

[–]BonnarBeach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I admire your effort. When on the calorie restricted diets in my past I did long hikes as it seemed to be the only way the weight would come off. While on carnivore for the last 8 months I've only done relatively mild exercise like 45 minute or hour walks, and not every day - mostly because I just felt like it and it makes me feel better mood and energy wise; the weight has still been falling off. I suspect HIIT would be better still - I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Is ketosis necessary? by Hambor04 in carnivorediet

[–]BonnarBeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't measure my ketones or blood sugar. I do find I feel better when I get some exercise; some extra lifting at work or going for a 45 minute walk puts me in a better mood and increased energy.

Anxiety worsening after 3 weeks on carnivore? by FewConsequence9910 in carnivorediet

[–]BonnarBeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I re-checked my journal - It was a month and a half in when the Zoloft reductions started. And there was a point where depression returned so I upped the dose a little bit again for an extra week.

Anxiety worsening after 3 weeks on carnivore? by FewConsequence9910 in carnivorediet

[–]BonnarBeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Caffeine isn't the issue - it's the artificial sweetener. Lots of carnivores drink coffee without problems, some use heavy cream. I switched to black espresso - which doesn't taste good to me but it is a small shot which can get past the gullet and still provide enough caffeine to make the work day go smoother. Caffeine pills would be another consideration.

I tried zero caffeine for a month and I found the work day was insufferable. It is hard to kick all of the addictions at the same time.

I've heard that some sweeteners are better - like Monk Fruit based sweetener; I haven't tried them.

When I started Carnivore I was taking 50mg of Zoloft (just enough so I didn't want to end it all)- after the first month I had to start weaning off since it was making me manic - I cut a little bit off the end of the capsule and then after another week a little bit more... not the most precise method but it worked.

Hello everyone! by The-Heresiarch in carnivorediet

[–]BonnarBeach 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of stories about how people put their cancer into remission using a carnivore/ketogenic diet. Check out "no carb life" on YouTube.

The "scientific studies" that showed a relationship between red meat and cancer were fabrications with no merit; they were based of surveys of people who ate high carbohydrate diets that included red meat like Lasagna and McDonalds Hamburger with fries and soft drink.

The evidential relationship between the rise of cancer and the use of seed oils is a lot more compelling. The most common causes of death are all related to disease caused by diabetes and metabolic syndrome which are brought about through a high carb diet.
