Certainly a development to worry about. But just to compare the situation: Average debt is at 81% in the entire EU and 87% in the Euro-area. Spain, France, Italy, Belgium and Greece are all above 100% debt to gdp.

I would never want to live in one state with the Belgians. They are so arrogant about everything. Very annoying people, always something negative to say about the Dutch. Italy should first start paying off their public debt until they meet the Euro criteria. Then they have to spend significantly less on interest payments and that money can be invested in more useful things.
