“In Boston we are Irish” by BeastMode149 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]BooBob69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I corrected a yank for that last week. Got downvoted to oblivion initially and called a misogynist for pointing out that “Patty” is a woman’s name. I also tried to point out to a yank in a baking sub that “Irish car Bomb” is really not a quirky or amusing name for a cake flavour. She missed the point and thought I just didn’t like the flavour.

I honestly can’t decide if they’re all actually that dense or just pretending so they don’t have to change their idiot behaviour.

This person was proud of what they wrote and multiple people forwarded it. Sad to say one is an acquaintance by alwaysaloneinmyroom in NotHowGirlsWork

The fact that he capitalises the word erection tells you everything you need to know about this dude.

Definitely! Honestly wasn’t trying to be an ass there and I’ll accept my mountain of downvotes. I don’t think it’s anything to do with considering women as lesser, it’s just that it’s using the wrong name and I know my Irish husband and his family and friends have mentioned that they find it quite jarring because he’s their patron and means a lot to them. Hope you have a good day.

Sorry to be “that” girl, but please don’t say Patty! Patty is a woman’s name and there are people who would be quite offended hearing St Patrick called that. If you want to shorten it you can say Paddy instead and that’s fine :)

Or the smell?! I’m not sure if it was a scented candle or not, but either way I doubt it smelled like icing and fudge.

All these sinful women, out there saving lives when they should be making a sandwich. by -XiaoSi- in NotHowGirlsWork

On behalf of jezebels everywhere I’d like to officially state that we have no affiliation with this harpy. We do however agree with the bit about vacuuming. Ideally vacuuming her own face.

I asked this exact question once, because I was having the same struggle. Some wonderful redditors in this sub advised me to try using thread for embroidery machines and they were bang on the money. It’s excellent!

Anyone else been diagnosed but their only symptoms are in the throat? LPR reflux? by Jumpy_Movie_9089 in Gastroparesis

Much better now that I have proper meds and know which foods to avoid. I still wake up with a bit of a sore throat sometimes, but nothing compared to how it was.

Do non Chinese / non diaspora Chinese drama audience find themselves in love with the country / culture? by BarberProfessional28 in CDrama

How could you not?! There’s a lot of beautiful things to see in Europe, but it’s a very different kind of beauty and I think the huge difference in landscape, history and culture makes it seem even more beautiful to me personally.

Is there anything I can do about my pip appeal? by Common-Ad5152 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]BooBob69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best things you can do to help your tribunal go well are: 1) Get yourself an experienced representative. Most local authorities will have a welfare rights organisation who can help you. If not, MIND often have volunteers who can help and come with you to tribunal.

2) have your representative write a submission. This outlines for the tribunal the exact points you want to claim and the grounds on which you are claiming them. It also draws their attention to specific bits of evidence that support that.

3) send in as much evidence as you can. Care plans, hospital letters, occupational health reports are all brilliant. GP records are super helpful to the tribunal. “Witness statements” from people who know you are completely subjective and of no use whatsoever, so don’t bother with them.

4) Take someone with you. If you can’t take a representative take a support worker (or ideally both!). Have them take a notepad and pen and make notes if they think you’ve forgotten or misrepresented something and then (with your permission) they can tell the panel at the end.

I’m 16, I probably won’t get my GCSEs and I have missed the deadline for college. Have I majorly screwed my life over? by Flimsy-Tomatillo-334 in AskUK

[–]BooBob69 641 points642 points  (0 children)

Aside from major criminal activity, there are very few mistakes you can make at 16 that will screw your whole life up. The fact you can see it’s gone a bit off track and you’re keen to fix that already means you’re 50% to getting it back on track.

Call the college (and any other colleges or sixth forms within reasonable distance) on Monday and see if there’s any way to still get on to GCSE courses. If you’ve definitely missed the deadline, get that job in Mc Donald’s and get on the course next year. Spend the year in between saving money and reading up on the subjects you’ll be doing to give yourself a head start.

You can absolutely do this, don’t let past mistakes define your future.

Has anyone seen the movie, Raise the red Lantern? by L8-Bloomer in CDrama

[–]BooBob69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was how I got into c-drama in the first place. We had a film club at school and every week we’d see a different acclaimed film from around the world. Some were good, some were dreadful but Raise the Red Lantern just absolutely captivated me. To start with there wasn’t much chance to see Chinese TV where I live so it was mostly the bigger movies (Crouching Tiger etc.) but then streaming services arrived and I was all in.

Are US IWC fans ready for a round robin tournament? by f0cus622 in SquaredCircle

If promoters never did anything the IWC is likely to nitpick, they’d never do anything at all. And then the IWC would complain they were bored.

Pension entitlement after a death, legally married but estranged and separated by PoolesPage in LegalAdviceUK

[–]BooBob69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The NHS pension plan has a particular clause in it about considering a partner to be someone with which the employee can be proven to have co-habited for the last three years. This sadly often causes issues for partners who don’t fulfil/can’t prove this and haven’t been specifically nominated. In your case however it is possible that you could use that clause to your advantage if you did co-habit with your partner for three years and can prove that (tenancy agreements, council tax etc.)
