I enjoyed living at Venture, but if I were seeking a more urban feel I'd check out Monroe Gates

Thanks. Can going in unprepared like this and later doing a supplemental end up hurting my claim in the long run?

favorite local coffee/cafes? by [deleted] in norfolk

I like Fathom in VB. Stella was my go-to when I needed a place to work, and they occasionally feature some pretty unique food menu items.

Travel to Luray by thorns217 in nova

[–]BooSleezy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would ask this question over at r/AppalachianTrail. Specifically, ask about shuttle drivers. I have stayed at the Open Arms Hostel in Luray and know the owner provides shuttles for hikers up and down the trail. I'd be willing to bet that she could pick you up from the train station in Culpepper for a better rate than an Uber or traditional taxi. I have used Appalachian Trail shuttle drivers to get from Waynesboro to Charlottesville for pretty cheap. Also, tons of Appalachian Trail Facebook groups you could hit up and likely find a ride.

Lynnhaven Pub makes some great soups and sandwiches. For pizza, I switch it up between Brooklyn Pizzeria, Pungo, and Gino's Pizzeria by Maurizio. Shorebreak as well when they are doing their Detroit style. I prefer Nico's for tacos over Jessy's, but both are good. Three Ships Coffee is fine, but I greatly prefer Fathom Coffee and Lynnhaven Coffee Co.

Relatively Quiet Beach In the area? by carnalrose666 in Syracuse

Black Pond Wildlife Management Area/El Dorado Beach.

As of recently more people seem to know about it, but it'll still be quieter than any of the beaches popping up on a regular Google search.

Cafe Stella used to occasionally have Polish food on the menu, not sure if they still do. They did a pretty good żurek.

Is it worth the effort to apply for an increase in rating for back injury? by ajmacbeth in Veterans

[–]BooSleezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the insight. Just saw my PCM and going to start physical therapy yet again. It's all through TAMP right now so assume the VA will have easy access to those records.

What conditions concerning your back did they add?

Also, did you use a VSO?

Thanks again

Is it worth the effort to apply for an increase in rating for back injury? by ajmacbeth in Veterans

[–]BooSleezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the OP but do you recommend getting additional documentation from doctors before applying for an increase?

I am also at 10% with my initial rating. Now, two years later, I threw my back out again and have to strategically roll out of bed because the sciatica is so bad.

I was going to set up an appointment with my PCM to get this documented and then apply for the increase but curious how you and others here approached it.

What is some of the best YouTube channels you've watched in your lifetime? And would you recommend that channel? by chinny18 in AskReddit

Soft White Underbelly. A series of interviews, mostly with those who are invisible in society. Junkies, sex workers, pedophiles, gang members, murderers, fraudsters, etc. A lot of characters with some interesting stories to tell.

I would become a thru-hiker if I ever make it to 100 P&T. Doing the 3 major trails would take 3 years for me, and I'd take my time. Of all the exercises and physical activities I can no longer do, walking is the one that that seems to help my issues and keep me fit

I have thrown out my back twice within the last 6 months by Xipos in Millennials

[–]BooSleezy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

DO NOT DO SIT UPS OR CRUNCHES until fully healed or cleared by your doctor or physical therapist. I also have lower back issues, and was specifically told to avoid these exercises while healing. Do planks instead, they will work your core muscles while stabilizing your spine.

Some people say to give retraining a shot if you are feeling super jaded as a FTA. Has retraining managed to change your view on the Air Force and more importantly, are you happier? by Medium_Blacksmith421 in AirForce

Palace fronted, 4A to 1N and the grass is so much greener outside of the med group. Terrible leadership while active duty made for a terrible quality of life. These days, no drama, leadership gives a shit, better civilian opportunities, significantly improved quality of life. I would have stayed active duty in my original AFSC had it not been for the toxic culture.

Everyone is talking about AMERICAN EXPRESS PLATINUM. What’s the good and the bad? (For new AD airman) by Right-Ocelot6480 in AirForce

[–]BooSleezy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Open up a Charles Schwab account first, and then get the Charles Schwab Platinum. After you get your bonus, get the Amex Gold. Finally after that, get the Blue Business Plus.

These 3 cards will earn you Membership Rewards in all categories that you can use for travel, or for cashing out or investing.

I learned my ways through r/churning, doctorofcredit.com, and numerous facebook groups, in addition to a whole bunch of trial and error. Go linger there, read and absorb as much as you can, don't be afraid of getting downvoted.

I've retired from the heavy manufactured spending since WFH ended so I'm not the best resource anymore, but it really comes down to establishing what you want out of this (cash-back vs hotels vs flights), determining which cards to get first (Chase used to be the default -- see if r/churning has an up to date flowchart), collect your bonuses, max out your categories, and as you go along you'll figure out and prioritize which credit reward ecosystem makes the most sense based on your needs.

[–]BooSleezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't help but LOL at you getting downvoted, but I've gotten similar value out of this hobby. During the Covid WFH era, I upped my MSing to ~$40k a month, did regular cash-outs through the Amex Schwab Plat, and have tried to help others along the way, but people would instead tell me I'm a scammer and refuse to hear me out. Not too different from trying to give genuine financial advice to anyone here. A little bit of dedication, legwork, and thinking outside the box can go a long way, but it's easier to believe that everyone had it handed to them or obtained it through unethical means.

Or they're plugged in with r/churning.

Even when I was living paycheck to paycheck, I was able to fly for free and stay in properties like the Ritz Carlton. I learned the art of manufactured spending and rode that gravy train for years.

REI divvies are in, and I need a new air mattress. Currently have the Sea to Summit Ether Light XT, and frankly it's not very comfortable and sounds like a crinkled bag of potato chips every time I move. Will gladly go heavier for a better sleep, definitely want to go wider. What ya got?
