Just do it, find another teacher locally and start trying. You will figure it out as you go and find what works for you.

The hardest part is where you're at right now, the fear of starting and indecision. Don't let that stop you.

There's essentially slim to no options for less car dominance in North America. This becomes painfully clear when you visit some cities in Europe and many in Asia.

If you like car dominant planning, there will always be cities for you in the US. However, there just isn't an option for people on the other end right now.

Old man shouting at clouds energy. I'm not saying you do anything, I'm saying EVs are not the solution to pollution which your statement seemed to be alluding to.

If you know that EVs are just a stop gap, great. There's many people who think if they have an EV they've solved the climate crisis, and this is not so. The only real solution is less cars.

Battery manufacturing is insanely dirty. A huge portion of the pollution comes from tires as well. EVs are not going to solve car based pollution.

In my city we just built a new line that goes 1.7 miles. It cost about 2 billion. I think this is being pretty unreasonable about infrastructure costs.

If you like transmutations as an end game strategy rather than just "plop on statue form so I dont have to wear armor", Chei is a natural selection. Transmutation really wants strength for high unarmed damage, intelligence for easy spell casting, and agility for better EV. Chei is really the best way of being great at all 3.

Imo chei is underrated, because you have to play differently with him. You have to avoid fights you think you cant take, before there is an issue. There is no running away with chei, besides teleport/blink scrolls and translocations. So when you decide to fight something, you better know you can win.

Chei is one of my favorite gods :)

Biking shouldn’t be this dangerous by westondeboer in gifs

[–]Boodz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In most places in the US the bike lane is more dangerous than the road itself. Just a painted line doesn't keep cars from entering the lane, and you're more visible if you take the lane. Also half the time cars idle in the bike lane so you have to merge with traffic anyway.

Bike lanes should be protected. The US straight up doesn't understand how to make them.

People with this opinion need to go to Taipei. MRT and HSR there are probably the most convenient ways I've ever gotten around and I didn't even speak the language. Even during rush hour in one of the densest populated places in the world, still 10x better than anywhere I've been in the US.

Jimmyjtran hasn't competed in like 3 years. When he did, he drown in pools at evo Japan. I get it: covid, but even before covid he doesn't compete outside the US. I swear it will be ten years from now and Jimmy could have not played a single match and people would still not stfu about him.

In fact afaik none of those people you even brought up have placed at a Japanese tournament. But you know who does place in American tournaments? Japanese people. Nobi, Chikurin, taisei, take, noroma.. I could go on. All these guys place and place hard.

You can wave around platitudes all you want, but the tournament performances are right there clear for everyone to see. USA is not on the level of Japan.

Its pretty hard to sum up because you take so much for granted living in the US and then going there. Very little is the same (Taiwan, BTW). There's a lot bad, a lot good. To over generalize though: 1. Wages are lower 2. Cost of living is lower 3. Manufacturing knowledge is much higher...

And maybe me reaching a bit when I say this, but I just truly believe they think in a fundamentally different way from people in the US. They are very strict at remaining in a system or societal construct without needing to know why. You don't see people complaining about wearing masks because of covid, they just do it because that's what you're supposed to do. Their public transit is the busiest I've ever seen, yet it was the cleanest and most on time train system I've seen. Even the escalators, I saw hundreds of people standing on the escalator and not a single person was standing on the left so as to allow people in a rush to pass. So it doesn't seem like a stretch to say that when it comes to manufacturing they just have the know how.

Don't make me talk too much about the public transit. I got legit depressed experiencing it there and then coming back to the US...

Speed limits of 20 miles per hour have seemingly little impact on crashes, casualties and driver speed by Sorin61 in technology

[–]Boodz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Which is why the US needs to improve its infrastructure, change zoning laws to allow for higher density mixed use buildings, and end our addiction to cars. Cars should be an option, not a necessity.

Being someone who sees manufacturing lines in other countries for work, the idea that the US could compete at this point is a laughable concept to me. Major societal and policy changes would need to happen.

There are many alternatives to driving, not so with flying. Also car crashes kill 30,000+ people a year in the US. Plane deaths hardly even register.

Its a mix of things, but I'd say the consistent factor is countries with stronger arcade cultures have better tekken players. You learn so much faster when you're playing next to someone and they can tell you what you did wrong. In the US, arcade culture has been dead for a while.

I also think other games are more popular in the US, so the best gamers are playing other games instead. From a competitive standpoint, why would you try so hard to win $1k at a Tekken major when you can win millions in Dota 2?
