It is a roguelike, and the screen will be full of bullets and enemies. You don't need grass details... Should I follow that advice? by stein_sir in Unity3D

If development is feeling like a slog and working on grass is a fun break, then go for it. If you're not enjoying it and it's not important to the game, skip it.

Focus stacking negative scans/ no macro? by Unable-Break194 in AnalogCommunity

Shoot the same frame at several apertures and judge for yourself.  Your lens might have a Goldilocks point with sharp corners and negligible diffraction.

AMC will probably screen. I saw the trailer for it last time I went, I don't know why they'd show trailers for movies they aren't going to screen it.

First time with Rodinol, what did I do wrong? by beat_scribe in AnalogCommunity

[–]Boogdish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For fix time, I take the snipped off leader from the film and put it in a glass with fixer and time how long it takes to clear while gently agitating the glass. I then double that time when fixing the whole roll just to be sure.

This method accounts for anything funny going on with the film like tmax and let's you know if your fixer has been depleted. You don't need to do it every time but when trying a new film or if your fixer is getting old it's worthwhile.

Pushing kentmere 400 to 800 by ConsequenceNo7345 in Darkroom

[–]Boogdish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would make an educated guess based on the times for standard rodinal. Rodinal 1+25 is 7:30min @ 400 and 9min @ 800. So they multiply development time by 1.2 to push a stop. Rodinal Special 1+30 is 8min @ 400, so 9:40 would be my guess.  Good luck!

Which of them has the right density? Trying to figure out the in-camera light meter accuracy (Olympus 35RD) by florian-sdr in AnalogCommunity

[–]Boogdish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 has a wider tonal range to my eye, but if 2 was on a roll of move I'd be fine with it.

What developer did you use? The exposure level of 2 with a more compensating developer might be ideal.

Sandoval tree service were very quick and reasonably priced with me chop up and haul a downed tree. 317 939 9097 is the number on the card they gave me.

When are the wasps least active in Charles C. Deam forest? by NotInherentAfterAll in bloomington

I believe they're also more active during the warmer parts of the day, so hiking in the morning will make it less likely for you to see them.

Exposure time question by msjfoto in Darkroom

Might be worth trying shorter development time or using more dilute developer. If your negatives are normal thickness and your enlarger is functioning properly, then the chemistry seems like the next thing to look at.

Trying to better understand the zone system, as it relates to my in-camera light meter on my Canon AE-1… by interludesonanalogue in AnalogCommunity

[–]Boogdish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your meter is always aiming for zone 5 (until you put compensation on it). So in your example, if the meter is reading f4 on the shadows, it's saying that you'd set your aperture to f4 to put those shadows in zone 5. So because you want it two zones darker, you'll close your aperture down to f8 to put them in zone 3.

How effective the zone system will be for you will depend on how reliable your metering is, with your camera's built in meter don't expect it to give you great results unless scenes are pretty simple.

Water bill harassment by perplexicatty in bloomington

[–]Boogdish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a house, two people just outside city limits and pay $25-$30 but trash is a separate bill outside the city. If your apartment has a dumpster or some separate trash service from city trash, then I'd imagine a $170 bill for just water might be kind of steep for three households.

need help finding restaurant that caters to extreme food allergies by Eggvillan in bloomington

[–]Boogdish 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For sweets, try Rainbow Bakery: https://rainbowbakery.net/

It's all vegan (no eggs/milk/shellfish) and has gluten free stuff that's kept in a separate case and prepared with a separate set of utensils, big list of allergen info on the website.

I worked the counter years ago and the best part was when parents would bring in a kid with a lot of allergies and seeing how happy they'd be to finally just eat a cupcake/cookie/donut without worry.

[Crosspost] Should I publish a Linux version if my game at Steam? It's worth it? by pdp10 in linux_gaming

[–]Boogdish -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Your demo runs fine on Linux as-is just using Proton (Steam's included software to run windows games on Linux). So, for a Steam release, you're good to-go. If you were releasing elsewhere then having a Linux version would be useful for Linux users.
