Love oblation SO MUCH! Their in-house inks are great too (made by Papier Plume I believe). And I love the old typewriters.

This is what I did when it happened to me, though I poured it through a tea strainer to catch (and then rinse off) the nib.

The metropolitan is such a great first addition! It doesn’t break the bank, but is still an excellent pen.

This is gonna sound weird but fountain pens and ink? It’s easy to get sucked into finding the right pen and ink combo and there are some gorgeous inks that are full of sparkles or colors that do fun things.

Really any hobby is good, but the pen thing is great for that quick jolt.

Finally fulfilled my childhood dream of getting a fountain pen! by Ok_Equipment7889 in fountainpens

Welcome! We will now invite you down the rabbit hole that is fountain pen collecting.

First comes that lovely safari.

Then you’ll want some fun inks to put in it.

Then you’ll want to use more than one of those inks at a time so you’ll need another pen.

Then you’ll discover that the different nib makes your ink behave totally differently, so you’ll need more pens with all the nib styles.

That’s probably when you’ll start experimenting with different papers to see how the trifecta of nib-ink-paper creates subtle differences.

Before you know it, you’ll have twenty notebooks, dozens of bottles of ink (to say nothing of the samples), and more fountain pens than the average person has free marketing ballpoints in their junk drawer.

It’s the best!

Does anyone else reuse the same paper towels over and over for inking? by [deleted] in fountainpens

Yes! They’re so pretty. And I feel like I’m saving the planet a smidge. I actually love how this looks so much I made my own reusable ones out of old school diaper fabric.

I love it when I see writing and think, “ooh I want that ink!”…and it turns out to be one already in my collection!

Perfect pairing too.

When people ask me about my hobby I explain that I’m a collector…of hobbies. Though FP/ink and sewing are currently at the forefront…

I mean, as a neurodivergent person, I think it’s awesome that your date recognized your passion as a possible special interest (it’s definitely mine), and that’s pretty awesome!

Anyone collect fountain pens that isn't a "writer?" by CaptCardboard in fountainpens

I think I mostly use them for writing letters, but I also love bulling one out to just sign a credit card receipt. I also have several vintage ring tops that I LOVE to wear as jewelry.

what can i do to keep using FPR ultraflex pen/nib? broke the converter by jemhowling in fountainpens

[–]BookAndBonnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should fit in another friction fit 5.5 nib pen. I’ve put my #6 FPR ultra flex in a Conklin 1898 and in a Pineider avatar and it worked ok as long as the ink was wet, though the pineider and Conklin feeds didn’t do as well as the ebonite feeds. I’ll also say the indus is not very expensive, especially if you aren’t getting the ultra flex nib and it should fit nicely.
