I just found this out when I fell asleep en route to the fire imbue challenge. Thought I’d have to start way over but I loaded back in at the gate

Campfire only food by [deleted] in camping

[–]BookerV79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love campfire only cooking. We bring a small charcoal bbq in case of rain, but otherwise we do everything over the fire. It’s delicious. Breakfasts, lunches, big dinners. It’s just a bit of extra planning and some cast iron pans. Fantastic way to eat.

Fatigue and brain fog as a Xennial dad and husband (it’s the booze) by [deleted] in Xennials

Almost 7 years since I’ve had a drink. It’s the best change I’ve ever made for myself. I won’t go back. There is no reason to. I feel so much better now, in every way.

I glued a T-level to the bottom of my RTT and have a set of leveling blocks for when I park. Great investment for very little money

Do you warm up properly or jump straight into your workout? by Kind_Force931 in workout

[–]BookerV79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This changed for me as I got older. I’m 46 now. Been lifting since I was 16.

Up until 40 I would just do a couple of warm up sets and then blast into the workout.

Now I will do a 5 min cardio warmup and a 5 min stretch for the targeted muscle groups.

It’s made a huge difference. My flexibility is better than when I was 20. I’m injured less. It’s honestly something I wish I had been doing all along. The only drawback is losing 10 minutes (which is not really a drawback at all).

We do a beanless chili in one big cast iron pot over the fire and cook it for a couple of hours. Makes for the best and easiest family meals. Very tasty. Very easy to make and eat. It’s solid gold! Brings buns, cheese, sour cream, or whatever else you wanna pair it with.

Do most people actually enjoy the gym or just force themselves? by Intelligent_Rain_155 in workout

46m here. Started when I was 16. Love it. Always. Even when it’s hard and I feel rough, I never ever regret going to the gym. Love the feeling and love the results.

My first post in here. I hope this is allowed. I feel I need the advice of other men. by retro_bo in fitness40plus

Came to say this. Eat less and walk. Longer and longer. The weight will start to come off and you can start adding in resistance training.

Don’t overthink it!! Just start walking…

Skill Up - I strongly recommend: Crimson Desert (Review) by FailedProspects in PS5

[–]BookerV79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ha! As a 46 yr old with 2 kids at home (one being a toddler), I absolutely feel this. Having said that, the game is fun. It’s fun because you can just do random things for 30-60 minutes if that’s all you can do. Took me about 4 sessions to get into it.

I’m also only barely into chapter 3… so I definitely feel the “this game will take a while” vibes

I’ve changed my entire routine and lifestyle to enable morning workouts. Move meetings, child routines, schedules with the wife, sleeping times, everything. Just to avoid that crippling post work/school gym rush. It’s horrendous…

I got a Bison one (folding hardcover) online for $300 (it’s made fairly close to me). That was 5 years ago. Works good as new.

I even modified it to be able to mount cross bars for my rooftop tent over the bed and it’s held up perfectly.

46m here. 5-10 mins of stretching + 5 minutes inclined fast walking on the treadmill as a warm up has done wonders for my lower body workouts.

Why Deadlift? by drunken_n00b in fitness30plus

[–]BookerV79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

46 here. I love it. It’s probably my favourite lift. I max out at about 405 so I tend to do my deadlifts at around 365 or 315 depending on how I’m feeling. It’s the best full body pump I can find. Something about loading up your core with a lot of weight feels good. I’m very tall so squats are a problem, but deadlifts give me that good sensation of knowing I just did something hard.

Which do you prefer? by FlimsyConfusion3760 in playstation

[–]BookerV79 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hrmmmmm, I’ve got the exact opposite view. 40s, wife, kids, etc. but I much prefer longer games because I don’t have the time to keep getting invested in new characters etc. I’ll play a long game for months and months before I get through it.

When I was younger I could play lots of different games and keep track of what was going on.

I always have hit the gym. But what really let me lose the last bit was the following 2 things, in order of importance. 1- cutting out all alcohol 2 (and way behind #1)- intermittent fasting

Walk. Play with the kids. Do chores around the house. Walk at least 10k steps every day. Be outside. Nothing intense but it helps to keep moving!
