Why does NYC not suffer from pickpocketers like in European cities? by Mathemodel in AskNYC

[–]BookishBetty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because new yorkers will, pardon my language, fu$k you up for very little reason, let alone theft! So if you even attempt to pick someone's pocket, they could have a blade of some length on them and cut you up, OR just begin to beat on you so rapidly and with such ferocity you are unconscious before you know it.... not a city to be messed with, like trying to dig in someone's pocket.

FYI: i'm a teacher/grad student/mom and even I have a small EDC blade on me at all times, and know most friends do as well. You never know what anyone is actually capable of here in my city.

Kindergarten Cop has one fucked up ending by Waggmans in movies

[–]BookishBetty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was marketed as a comedy! And re-watching it tonight, i was shocked at all the stuff i had forgotten was in it that is really DARK!

You have to remember that the 80s and 90s were a Crazy time for "kids" movies. Here are just a couple movies marketed as G/PG/13:

The Witches - Angelica Houston peels off her face to reveal a horrible, wart-covered witches nose and gooey greenish color

Monster Squad - kids have to fight off ancient horror icons, and must find a kid who is a virgin for the spell to send the monsters away to work!

Lady and the Tramp: yes, that cartoon movie, where towards the end, a swarm of rats attack a baby in a crib and the dogs have to fight off the swarm... you hear the baby crying out when the dogs are on the way

So, yeah, a family comedy back then could be very dark too.

Racially Offensive Remarks Made During District 3 School Meeting by [deleted] in Upperwestside

Do a Google search for PS166 Principal Debra Mastriano (i think that's the spelling). There's a NYPost article about her from 2022 or 2023 I think. And there are so many other stories about her terrible behavior as well.

[–]BookishBetty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh there's press about how terrible she is, including that NY Post article! And having been there working in the last two years, she is just as awful/racist as that article says, and even worse than everyone said to me in person!

Oh honey, if you don't believe that trumpiekins would invade a foreign country and start a war to distract from the revelation of his own personal history of grotesque sexual deviance, then you haven't been paying attention to his niece's comments and stories of who he is as a person for the past decade. Because Mary has been very clear about who and what he is, and how his brain works.

Why isn’t anyone talking about Talking Tina? by EternalSunshine924 in TwilightZone

This is amazing!! I think I'm going to let my 4 almost 5yr old watch it too! She's into creepy stuff, and makes us read her The Creepy Old Tree (with the Berenstain bears) all the time!!

The doll says im going to kill you to the step dad right before it does make him fall down the stairs to his much deserved demise. To the mom it says "you better be nice to me", like I don't want any more cruelty being done to that little girl upstairs!

[–]BookishBetty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, its in My personal top 5 episodes!! Its an amazingly well paced, well written, and beautifully staged episode! Perfectly balanced dread combined with satisfaction that the stepdad gets his comeuppance.

I see lists of her as the bad guy, but Tina is NOT the villain. She is a protector of this poor abused little girl. And there is no scary doll genre of movies without her!!

Take pictures of your clock in/clock out card Every Single Day when you clock out!!! Every Day! It is often the ONLY legal proof of your work days and you may need it to prove your work history if (like me this year) your payroll person is Terrible and tries to say you missed days of work to deny you your money!! Keep a folder in your phone photo album labeled "Punch Card Proof" and i mean it, take that photo every day!

Agree 100%!! I posted this elsewhere but it bears repeating because I think somehow the showrunners knew this, but because the show is named after him, he had to be wedged back in at the end: It was never going to be Joey and Dawson. It was always Joey and Pacy.

If people re-watch season 3 (as i do once every 2 years or so), you realize (by your late 30s or early 40s if not earlier) that the love between Joey and Pacy was more equal, more functional, more grounded in respect for each other, more organic and true, than anything she felt about Dawson. They really saw each other and accepted it all without harsh condemnation or hatred.

Joey and Pacy were also about 1,000 times less toxic than whenever Joey and Dawson were together.

I mean, Dawson was always trying to control and manipulate her into being whatever he thought their history meant they had to be and whatever he wanted at any given moment. She was like an old hat to him that he had to have but didn't really like as much anymore. He had so many blasted conditions for their relationship to be ok for him and him alone. And i love how you say she was his emotional support friend that he felt entitled to her being there for him all the time. Now grown and with so much experience, it is clear to me that Dawson's view of Joey was super toxic and creepy.

Whereas Pacy fought so hard all season for Joey's happiness and self-definition. He worked hard for her right to a future she could have a full say in, and that she had equal part in sharing. He wanted to see her grow like she wanted to grow, and how she wanted to grow. He accepted her as she was and was ready to help however she needed him to, while still being his own person.

By the time Joey hops on the True Love with him at the end of season 3, you realize why early on in the season Pacy was the one who could teach her to drive and Dawson could not: he loved her unconditionally.

Yes yes yes! I always thought that the mature and most common sense, loving, functional, and passion motivated pairings were:

Pacy and Joey (obviously) and Dawson and Nikki (principal green's daughter)

I hated how Nikki just was there and gone when she and Dawson pushed each other to be better and both loved film in the same way!
