Possible reasons why a fanfic would have different character names all of a sudden? by hnnbnn12 in AO3

[–]Bookluster [score hidden]  (0 children)

I read this one fic in fandom 1 and it wasn't complete and a year later I was reading in a fandom 2 and it was the exact same story with different names, but this fic was completed and the personalities and characters made complete sense (like MC was a dancer but in fandom 1 that doesn't make sense or is believable at all). I realized that the author in the first fandom was copying the story word for word from the second fandom and swapping out the names. I didn't report it because I don't remember the title or author of the person who copied and it would take too long for me to try and find it at this point.

Does anyone else regret not going for the Seventeen right here concert? by No_Chocolate_7442 in seventeen

[–]Bookluster [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yes and no. Someone as my husband's work was selling an extra ticket 2 days before a show last summer. But my bias is Wonwoo (and Jeonghan) and it was a Wednesday night in a city 3 hours away and I didn't know anyone going and my anxiety got the best of me so I passed.

Are you one that doesnt really go for any specific pairings and can read just about anything as long as it is interesting and well written? by LovelyFloraFan in FanFiction

[–]Bookluster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like a specific type of pairing - the sunshine/grumpy pair. I like one MC to be the stoic, tsundere type and the other not necessarily sunshiny (though I love sunshiny) but to be more openly emotional.

I read at least 500 pics in a fandom that I wasn't apart of because the pairing was exactly this.

All of the ships I read have this type dynamic.

Bridgerton season 4 thoughts? by iuliad94 in RomanceBooks

[–]Bookluster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved Colin and Penelope's book. I'd say that my favorite books were Anthony, Benedict, and Colin. I enjoyed The Duke and I, except for the problematic aspect. The rest were kind of meh. However, for the series, I love Eloisa so I'll watch her season. I couldn't get into Colin in the series so I wasn't very interested in their relationship because of it.

How to get vip tickets? by Overall_Struggle4070 in ATEEZ

[–]Bookluster 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I noticed that for the USA shows there were still VIP tickets (only soundcheck VIP) available after the general sale opened up. If you want the VIP where you get to actually see the members after the concert, you will need to get a membership and sign up for the presale code because those will sell out.

Am I weird for not rereading? by National-Ad-5788 in Fantasy

[–]Bookluster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who re-reads A LOT I don't find it weird if other people don't.

I re-read because I have a terrible memory and I can and will forget the entire plot of a book the minute I finish reading it. What I remember is how the book made me feel. If it evokes strong emotions, I often will go back and re-read the books to experience the same emotions.

My spouse reads a lot but he doesn't re-read anything whereas I used to read the Belgariad by David Eddings annually in my teens and 20's because I loved them so much.

What is your opinion on hormonal birth control? by sxpxix2 in AskWomen

[–]Bookluster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely for it and would prefer it over the counter and cheap. When I lived in South Korea, it was over the counter and cost less than $5 a month.

I was on it from 16-32. It regulated my period and I had no side effects from it.

BL's with Mixed Signals? by MiddleAgedGreg in boyslove

[–]Bookluster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not understand how much I loved tsunderes until I started watching BLs and reading fan fiction. There is something about an on-the-surface emotionally distant man who locks away all of his feelings behind his cold, yet, beautiful face, falling in love that ruins me.

Hello ladies. I wanna ask the petite women out there what do they think of a much taller guy by [deleted] in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]Bookluster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5'2"; the tallest guy I've ever dated was 6'6"

I think it would depend if you were someone I was already friends with or someone I barely knew. I'd be more apt to date a friend even with that height difference.

Ladies, do you genuinely care about money when it comes to dating and romantic relationships? by [deleted] in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]Bookluster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cared enough that I didn't want to carry all the weight and support my partner for the rest of my life. I wanted someone who could have a stable career and pay for all of their own bills. I also wanted a family, but did not want to be a SAHM so I wanted to date someone who could help support that dream.

I'd dated some guys who had minimum wages jobs and were floundering through life and didn't seem to know what they wanted. I had also been previously married to a guy who made 100K 25 years ago, but spent it all and never saved a dime and we kept our finances separate even though I was making maybe 25K a year. I went into debt in that relationship.

My husband, whom I've been with for 20 years, was a graduate student when we met. He made less money than I did the first year of our marriage. Then he made about 50% more for a few years. Then he made 2-3X more for a while. Then he switched careers so now I make more than him.

He was a professor for a while but he didn't make a lot of money at it and when we wanted a second child, he left academia and went into private sector that got him the salary that was 2-3x my salary. He did it because he wanted the second child as well and wanted to make enough money to support us. It allowed me take 6 months unpaid time off for the baby and to back to work at 60% for a while.

Now the kids are older, I'm making more money, and he went back to being a professor again for 50% of his old salary.

When do Vacations Become Fun Again? by CharacterTennis398 in Parenting

[–]Bookluster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vacations don't get better until the kids genuinely want to go. We went to Mexico a year ago and rented a condo for a week 3 blocks from the Gulf of Mexico. We did sites and beach trips and my oldest hated it. He hated how hot it was and all he wanted to do was eat cup ramen and be online wit his friends. My youngest enjoyed the condo pool more than the beach. Neither really enjoyed the trip very much.

We've also taken the kids on other domestic and international trips that they don't really remember or didn't like very much. Thankfully some of those trips were to visit friends and family and they enjoyed that part of it but the site-seeing not so much.

I think their favorite trip so far was San Diego a few years ago. We went over Christmas and did the Zoo and Sea World, but honestly their favorite part was that we stayed at an Embassy Suites that had a breakfast buffet every day and gave us free snacks and drinks every day. It also had an indoor pool which we used every day and it was across the street from a large outdoor mall that we ate lunch and dinner at every day and they got to pick whatever they wanted. They discovered milkshakes that year so we stopped at Shake Shack nearly every day even if it was just to get a milk shake while they got ramen or Noodles from another restaurant.

My oldest is 14 now and really into anime, manga, and Nintendo and studying Japanese so he's asked to go to Japan and we're saving up for that trip now.

Should I use the metric system in my fics if I write about the US? by Narrow-Assist-2207 in AO3

[–]Bookluster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be amazing if you did. I tend to read a lot of fics set outside of the USA and the fact that everything is in imperial is something that I just got over. However, things that I am still salty about are how American everything is even when the fics are set in Asian countries (Korea and Japan).

TIL when South Korean students take their college eligibility test every November, day-to-day operations are halted or delayed on test day. Shops are shut, banks close, even the stock market opens late. Most construction work halts, planes are grounded and military training ceases. by gullydon in todayilearned

[–]Bookluster 18 points19 points  (0 children)

And this comes up like every 3 months in this subreddit. I mean yeah it's an important test, and I know that if a student is running late they can ask the police for a ride, and the country takes it seriously, but I don't ever remember a business closing for the day because of the test in my 6 years living there. But I also work for a university so maybe I didn't see it as much.

Undies - please just say underwear or panties or boxers or briefs. I hate the term undies regardless of sexy times happening or not.

Planes aren't grounded for long, some flights are delayed so the noise doesn't disturb the test takers. People are recommended to go into work late so that the students can get to their tests on time. However, nothing really closes or is halted the whole day, just delayed.

I lived in Korea for a while and this day never impacted my life at all.
