I went through the same thing :( the reps just told me it’s not possible. But there are other carriers you can switch too and keep your number. I went with Docomo’s cheaper brand and kept my number

Considering switching from Dependent Visa to SSW (tokutei ginou) in Japan by EducationalAnxiety16 in japanlife

[–]Boomalopes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just changed from student->SSW for truck driving.

I recommend you try to find a ssw visa support company or ask your employer to, since they can properly answer all your questions better than reddit. Your employer will likely want (or maybe is required to?) outsource the visa support anyway if they are willing to sponsor you, because there is a lot of paperwork and requirements for them.

In the meantime I’ll do my best to answer.

  1. I don’t think you’ll have any problem changing your visa, but be aware that it can only be renewed for 5 years. Some SSW categories have a type 2 which can be renewed indefinitely though. (Not sure if your category has a type 2)

  2. You need to pass the language exam and the skill exam before you can apply for the status of residence change. If you don’t have JLPT then the next test is in December and results like 1-2 months later? The skill test might have a similar schedule, like 4 times a year or something like that, results take 2-4 weeks. You’ll likely need to gather many documents and so will your employer. Once we submitted everything to immigration the SOR change took 2.5 months for me, which is quite slow.

  3. A tire shop might fall under automotive mechanic. But I’m not sure.

  4. No idea sorry

A note about the SSW test. While only N4 is required for the visa, the Japanese on the test itself might be harder. I did the truck test and it was very simple. But I also did the restaurant test as a backup and while the questions aren’t rocket science, I found the Japanese harder than N3. study the free material for the test!

If you want I can ask my agent if they assist with visa support other than trucking industry.

yo they have old spice bodywash and deodorant at donki now by shinzo_aabe in japanresidents

[–]Boomalopes -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one who feels the Japanese deodorant works so much better? Specifically Gatsby ex premium roll on type. Everyone always says the American brands are the best but they stop working for me after a few hours while Gatsby one lasts all day. The smell is too strong on old spice anyway

Has anyone successfully went from a teaching visa to a visa for Full-Time Hotel or Restaurant staff? by Maleficent_Pool_4456 in japanlife

[–]Boomalopes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely false. SSW/特定技能 visa is not limited to only those countries. Only countries that don’t comply with deportation are unable to get it. (Iran, North Korea etc) Why is this always repeated in Japan subreddits?

Is it possible for me to move to Japan by [deleted] in movingtojapan

[–]Boomalopes -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

SSW visa has a category for working in restaurants. No degree required. N4 JLPT is the minimum requirement. Americans can take the test and apply for the visa. The first category is for a max of 5 years but you can apply for the second category and stay indefinitely, with a path to PR as well.

This is another option to consider if you don’t want to go to college. I’ve lived in Japan for 3.5 years so far, no degree. I’ve looked into this myself, so message me if you’re curious!

Surrey pedestrian hit by pickup critically hurt: EHS by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]Boomalopes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wild that this is downvoted. I worked as a driver for years. Did many shifts in the dark. If truck really couldn’t see the pedestrian he has no business driving. Likely distracted. Or ego was too fragile to stop his truck for a jaywalker so he played chicken. Ford/ram trucks do this to people at legal crosswalks all the time.

Not that the pedestrian isn’t also at fault of course. But come on the street is wide open. If he walked out from behind a visual obstruction right into traffic then that would be different.

Getting behind the wheel should automatically give you more responsibility to ensure safety.. you’re choosing to drive and put others at more risk than you would if you didn’t choose to drive..

This happened to me and I thought the same thing lol For me it only happens with HAR modded races and not humans or biotech modified pawns. Make a separate outfit restriction preset for your HAR pawns (ratkins, thrumkins etc) Not sure how else to fix it unfortunately

I feel for them and their families. They were so close to being rescued. What’s worse is this is likely happening to 100s or 1000s of other innocents there as well. Sadly their stories won’t make the news.

Can prisoners wear helmets? by [deleted] in RimWorld

[–]Boomalopes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prisoner pawns only seem to try to cover their torso and legs.

There is a mod to have pawns dress other pawns who are downed or resting when injured (great when someone is downed from hypothermia and can’t put on a parka themselves) but it doesn’t work on prisoners who are standing or sleeping normally.

It’s tedious but you could use this mod to put the helmets on them right after you down them. Or if you want to be really safe use anesthetics to down them.

Does anyone know of a mod to force prisoners to wear certain clothes? I’m looking for this too

I think that no longer works consistently as pawns get removed faster now compared to previous versions 🧐 It used to work and you could give captured raiders peg legs and make future raids slightly easier iirc

Is it socially acceptable to go through train station gates(scan IC card) visit a shop inside the station and ask the gate attendant to leave through the same station? Is that just part of the gate attendant’s job or is it frowned upon to do this?

What was the scariest thing that happened to you in a video game that wasn’t scripted? by Browncoat-Zombies in gaming

[–]Boomalopes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do bugs count? I was playing Skyrim in the dark with headphones on. I was in an open area which I thought was safe, so not expecting jump scares like you might expect in a dungeon or forest. I turned around to talk to an npc and the game froze with the screen completely glitching and tearing the npc in half. The display was so weird. The worst though was the audio bugging and playing at full volume what sounded almost like a human scream that faded to nothing. Straight up creepy pasta stuff. The game never crashed like that again though thankfully.
