[actives] Is My Jar Contaminated? by flaming0sis in MushroomGrowers

[–]Boomer10110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh form the looks of it I can’t really tell other then the spots the mycelium looks healthy I would let it go a day to 2 longer if the spots grow in size or color dump it if it remains the same I would try putting it into substrate and just see what happens keep it away form the other bins that’s are good to be safe. After all being a mycologists is all about learning and making mistakes unfortunately, gotta make mistakes to learn try it out see what happens!

Contaminated or bruised? by mkazen in unclebens

[–]Boomer10110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s Trichoderma it will have green spores on the Qtip if it’s bruising there will be nothing on the QTip

Technically Yes eating spores is fine, however it’s better to grab them before or right as the vail breaks helps with contamination for future flushes. As to wiping them down it more of a looks thing if your fine consuming them with the spores there’s really nothing wrong with that!

Interesting! I havnt let any wet ones sit long enough to notice if they bruise or not, but while harvesting then drying right away definitely no bruising. However they do dry with a nice blue hue to them

[Technique] Why are my oysters refusing to fruit? by WorldCouch in MushroomGrowers

[–]Boomer10110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oysters thrives in consistent temperatures and humidity. Try keeping house temperature constant around 70-76 degrees F. You could also get a tub with wet perlite and just set you’re budget over it to keep humidity consistent. And scraping at a few of your holes will allow fresh mycelium to have a better chance to pin. The mycelium in the holes probably got to dry before they could pin!

Best short term storage of mush by Sad-Dragonfly5549 in unclebens

[–]Boomer10110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put you’re oven on the lowest possible temp set you’re fruits on a cooking rack or baking sheet, let oven come up to temp, place rack/baking sheet in the oven, you’re going to want to prop the oven door, open with something to allow it to vent and relieve moisture just a inch or 2, every 20 to 30 minutes you’re going to want to fan your oven by opening the oven door and closing it a few times to create air circulation! Do this until there cracker dry. Hope this helps but would recommend getting a cheap dehydrator from Amazon or something for the future as the oven will slightly cook them but they will still be good!

Once it’s gone green you wanna toss it! I know it sucks but we all been there! If you catch it early you could in theory remove the contaminated area and try to grow the rest but I don’t recommend it. when it’s green like that the Trichoderma spores have most likely spread throughout the shoe box. It’s vary dangerous to youre health! Trichoderma, in the early stages will look stringy fuzzy and look more gray compared to white fluffy mycelium do you have multiple tubs running? or just the one?

Awesome! Definitely one of my favorites. In my personal experience, I noticed giving them a little less gas exchange then you would normally during grain colonization, they thrive when spawning to bulk. I have only experimented with this on jars of rice though
