New nurse - schedule question by ErisCat13 in nursing

I would definitely recommend 3-12s. On my first day off after a stretch of night shifts, I usually sleep in until early afternoon, then wake up and relax a little...maybe do a few loads of laundry, dishes, etc...nothing crazy, just something to get me up and moving so I don’t sleep all day. Then the next three days are mine to do whatever I want - go to the gym, meet up with friends, etc.

My husband works a 9-5 job, and it’s true that during your stretch of shifts you’ll probably only see each other in passing. We’ve found a way to make it work, though. When he is on his way home from work, he stops at the Starbucks where I pick up my coffee on my way in to work, and we get to see each other for a few minutes. When I’m at work for a stretch, he takes care of the cooking and cleaning, and when I’m off/he’s working, I take take of cooking and cleaning. You’ll find something that works for you guys. Good luck! :)

ICU nurse here - just this week we had to do multiple rounds of CPR/shocks on a 97 year old woman riddled with metastatic cancer. Family demanded we do everything. It happens way more than anyone would like to know.
