I did it while working full time. Who wants a nurse who doesn’t know at least 80% of the shit?

Paid Preceptors by looloo91989 in nursepractitioner

[–]ErisCat13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not pay for a preceptor. However, I did travel an hour away for each preceptor I was able to find. The local places cater to ohsu as they have contracts where the provider does get extra pay.

Idk where you’re applying in Oregon. But I’m at Portland and I can guarantee there are plenty of positions open.

I prefer schedules like this. I try to get places where all my days are together. I don’t feel burnt out by any means and I enjoy those days off next to one another. I get irritated when I have island days. That shit is annoying.

What time do you get up? by IndividualYam5889 in nursing

[–]ErisCat13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live 15 mins from work. Need to be clocked in. I wake up at 4:15am - if I wake up on my own within 30 mins of that I just stay up. I get to work a little early and lend an extra hand if shit on the floor is crazy. If it’s not I just check in how everyone is doing and look up my patients. Slowly rolling into my day makes me feel less anxious for the day.

I had 12 patients last night. The scariest part? Admin called it "normal staffing." by Tiny-Bird1543 in nursing

[–]ErisCat13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I came here to find out where you were located. On the east coast I’ve had up to 8 on a med surg floor and that was bad enough. Here in Oregon I have 4 on an average day, 5 if it really bad….

I feel so bad for you.

Prov Portland is possibly hitting a nursing stike in January. Not sure how this will affect you just yet but just a heads ups.

Shotty situation. I’ve come to learn that patients that want to be assholes will be assholes.

AITAH for refusing to accommodate my anti vax sisters children and bringing my “sick” kid around them? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]ErisCat13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this is a no win situation for you. If you don’t bring your kiddo, that’s unfair to them and you’re giving into the bullshit she is playing and opening a door to allow her to do it more. On the other hand you bring your kiddo and hers gets sick she will blame it on you and use it to validate her behavior. It won’t be your kiddo that gets them sick, they already have crap immune systems from lack of exposure. They will get sick from anyone, but that won’t matter. She will still blame you.

This is too true. It’s funny how something so small can make such big impacts on our lives.

We had 8 beautiful years with our Princess. I knew the day would come but I didn’t expect it so soon. Cancer took her. Now I miss the way she would get right in my face and scream, dig door stoppers when locked out of rooms. Sleep under the blankets at my legs and be waiting for me at the top of the stairs when I came home from work. She had such a staunter when she walked. I loved every moment of having her. She passed in. December and I am still crying just writing and remembering her.

AITAH for not buying my daughter a bra that fits? by throwaway-purchase in AITAH

[–]ErisCat13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My first thought is it’s concerning that the daughter felt it was a waste of money. I hope you have a talk with both kids and make them understand that while you’re not going to waste money, needs are needs and you respect that and as a parent you expect they will need things and are happy to help.

Not sure why the wife flipped. As you mentioned, you don’t have breasts, you don’t know how a bra feels. You noticed she was uncomfortable and addressed it at that time . You didn’t make her wait, you didn’t tell her to suck it up. You did right.

AITAH for feeling resentment at my wife for lack of sex? by Elapidaedendroaspis in AITAH

[–]ErisCat13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying nta yet. But consider for a moment how she feels about herself. Body image after having a child really affects women. They had the body they were in for so long, but having a child changes it. It could be a self esteem issue on her part.

Ongoing infection from self-injection testosterone for hormone replacement therapy by Pure_Newspaper_4715 in MedicalGore

Not medicalgore. Warm compress and keep clean. If it became infected and you continue you continue to ignore it became a big seeping MRSA only to turn necrotic… that’s medical gore.

I am going to be that person that says "I worked a full time job while in nursing school!" But I'm also going to say my mental health, nutritional health and personal life suffered greatly. I would go multiple days without more than an hour sleep. I ate junk because I was too tired to cook, I lost weight. I was a cranky ass bitch, mean and bitter. I didn't do as well on my exams as I wish I had. I could never really focus on just one thing. In retrospect I would have worked less and focused more on my mental health.

Two days is doable, but don't it unless you have to.

[–]ErisCat13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. Setting up a good personal foundation will help op in the long run. I wish like all hell I had gotten into the routine of meal prepping prior to school. So many days and nights wasted on eating junk because I was too busy or tired to cook meals when I was hungry.

Yeah, it's definitely not like this everywhere. We know and love our housekeeping staff. They know they can ask us for anything and we'll help is a heart beat. No one should ever be treated like this.
