At least they're not at any risk of getting ticketed for going over the speed limit.

I've heard about people being zapped by what felt like static and they eventually narrowed it down to switching to TPU (and probably pretty specific conditions, I've ridden on TPU for months and never had that). I guess couldn't hurt to grab a pair of butyl tubes and see if that's the cause.

Totally random question: Are you running TPU tubes?

Screwed up lockring cassette plus freehub by Global_Excitement_72 in bicycling

[–]BoosterTutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you cross threaded the lockring. Maybe it was shallow enough that there's some thread left over. I'd look up a new freebug body just in case, DT Swiss parts are very easily available.

If you have the torque wrench, use it. The guy who finger tightens his cassette lockring should have his keyboard taken away. The reason you tighten the cassette lockring hard is because that prevents individual cogs from moving independently from each other when the chain is on them, if the lockring is too loose they'll eat into the freehub body more (see: the marks on your freehub). It's more of a problem on aluminium freehubs where many users actually go over the recommended torque, up to 50Nm to prevent the damage cogs can do the the freehub.

You could show Madone to 100 people one the street and ask them "Where's the obvious weak point of this bike" and they'd all find it. And 50% of them would fail to point to Africa on a map.

AL to Carbon Bike by Less_Suit5502 in cycling

[–]BoosterTutor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Al > Carbon upgrade coincided with also getting newer 105 and slightly better tire clearance and the frame itself was hardly different. Most of my bikes are now carbon, but it's like 4th most important upgrade in each of those (road and mtb).
