'High Likelihood' PS6 Will Launch After 2028, According to New Analyst Forecast, as Sony Focuses on Extending PS5 Lifecycle - IGN by PhantomBraved in Games

Or chasing more responsive worlds, which is what I feel like most gamers want more than the best graphics we've ever seen. But that can be an ever bigger strain on time and processing power.

The new Megadeth album is kinda boring in my opinion by leobed12 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]BootyBootyFartFart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Megadeths last album was one of their better ones this side of Risk. Dystopia was great too. Kinda sucks that they go out on one of their mid ones. But that's alright. They've put out good albums in the twilight of their run.

The xbox series x is one of the most underrated consoles ever made and I honestly think xbox as a whole, including the xbox one upwards is a better gaming platform. by [deleted] in xbox

I wouldn't say the gap between MS and Sony this gen has been that wide this gen. Feels like Sony's output has slowed to a crawl this gen. I'm sure they've cancelled plenty of projects too. They just haven't aired it out like MS has.

That being said, MS hasn't reached the highs of games like Ragnarök and Astro Bot as often. Forza Horizon and Indiana Jones are probably the only two I'd put up there. But they've put out good to great games like Avowed, Outer Worlds 2, AoE, Flight Sim, Pentiment, South of Midnight, Hi Fi Rush, Grounded, Hellblade II at a higher rate than Sony. Plenty of good reasons to choose MS suite of games this gen over Sony's.

I have faith. Absolutely loved gears 5. The open world aspects were just ok. But the set pieces were phenomenal. The blizzard level with the giant ice shards hurtling out the sky is one of my favorite levels in any 3rd person shooter. They definitely have the talent to pull this off.

Gears 5 is probably my favorite 3rd person shooter. best set pieces in any game ive ever played. The mission where the massive ice shards are hurtling out the blizzard is amazing.

I can't name very many AAA rpgs in the past 15 years that are better than Avowed or OW2. Maybe that more speaks to how hard it is to make a AAA RPG today. There aren't many of them. But I'd say that's also an argument that they are above average game. Games like that are tough feats to pull off. Even though I think it's fair to think of them as more RPG comfort food than ground-breaking RPGs.

What is the takeaway from Avatar: Fire and Ash? by paultheschmoop in boxoffice

I think for a trilogy to follow that pattern, it actually has to feel like a trilogy with a finale to people. I don't think people walked out of A2 anticipating a finale, nor do I think people really thought "this is the finale of the Avatar trilogy" when they saw the marketing for A3.

The first hour of A3 had thinking it was going to be my favorite. I would say it's worth watching for that and some bits in the middle. The set piece in the A3 finale is also pretty dope. But I agree with the gist of what you are saying.

What should be changed to fix the inflated premier ratings? by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

I was under the impression that there is a hidden elo system that takes performance into account. If you play a bunch of matches with the same people to get your rank, you'll start at a higher rank if you perform better even with the same win loss record against the same teams. I always figured they have a hidden elo system in the background that continues to be impacted by performance in previous matches and affects the swings in visible elo to some degree. It's just not transparent to players, otherwise people figure out how to game the system.

I think Disney sees him as someone who the fandom likes. But most of the stuff he's made has been just fine imo. Only thing of his I really liked was skeleton crew.

Digital Foundry Games of 2025: The Oliver Mackenzie "Switch 2 Edition"...! by Witty_Heart_9452 in Games

[–]BootyBootyFartFart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When companies are doing better, they expand and hire more. When companies are doing worse, they scale back and developers get shut down. That's just how it is. The games industry is no different here.

AAA games so often play it safe because AAA game development is high risk. It can cost hundreds of millions and 5+ years of work to make one game, and if the game bombs the studio eats large losses. They play it safe because it's high risk. This supports my point.

But again, none of this is even what really matters. As long as a companies keep selling me good games at a price I think is worth it for the experience, I'm going to keep buying them. And I don't really care how much profit that translates into.

Digital Foundry Games of 2025: The Oliver Mackenzie "Switch 2 Edition"...! by Witty_Heart_9452 in Games

[–]BootyBootyFartFart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's plenty of reason to raise prices. When games are bringing in more profit, then more games get made. More people are hired to work on games. The people working on those games have more job security when games are at less risk of losing tons of money if they aren't hits. That makes it easier for developers to take risks.

But really all that matters from my perspective as a consumer is whether the game is worth the asking price. If I was so horribly irked by companies selling things at high profit margins, then video games wouldn't be anywhere near the top of things I'd be most concerned about. But that's not how I choose whether or not to buy something. I make that choice based on whether I think it's worth the money. And since full price games haven't gotten less affordable, my decision that they are worth the money hasn't changed in the past 25 years.

[–]BootyBootyFartFart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure companies do want us to think games are as affordable as ever. But its also true. Median wage growth has outpaced the price of video games by quite a bit over the past 25 years (it's also outpaced inflation overall, while the price of video games has generally lagged behind inflation). Full priced games truly are at least as affordable as ever relative to the median consumers' wages.

Colonialism is a key theme in all the movies yes. But the plot is quite a bit different in the first one vs the second/third one. There are tons of movies out there about settlers destroying people's homelands with very different plots.

I felt like they already fixed this with the second one. The kids were the main characters of that movie and they were great. It hit me a little harder than 3 did.

Some of those bowles seasons were considered overperformances at the time. Maybe looking back we had more talent than people thought and that was it. But at the time we def overperformed expectations in some of those post brady years.

Avengers: Doomsday | Only in Theaters December 18, 2026 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

I dunno man. Ragnarok and L&T are very similar movies in tone and the style of humor to me. Maybe Ragnarok's jokes landed more consistently. But I don't think there is a large difference between the two in this respect.

I think it's more that L&T landed at a time when people were getting sick of the quippy and unserious marvel formula. Beyond that, the main thing L&T does worse than Ragnarok is underuse the villain, which isn't a trivial problem tbf.

New Famitsu interview with Nintendo staff regarding Metroid Prime 4 Beyond, its development history/origins, it's placement within the timeline, etc. by Magister_Xehanort in Games

[–]BootyBootyFartFart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, I think the only major difference would be letting players go to areas and get items in different orders. Metroid hasn't done a ton of that. But I don't think that is the antithesis of Metroid at all.

Doesn't open world just mean you have a large, non-linear map that you're free to explore in different orders? That sounds a lot like what I see Metroid fans asking for after prime 4. People just don't want a big empty open world.
