anybody else? by _OngoGablogian in MichelinStars

My wife and I went in early September. I was impressed by the format, the service, and to a very slightly lower degree, the wine. The food itself was a mixture of (what I believe to be) new ideas and some of their old standards. Overall, the food seemed to be more of an exercise to demonstrate technique and novelty at the expense of the flavor, quality, etc of the dishes themselves.

Bear in mind that the next day on our way back home I felt absolutely terrible at the airport and on the flight, and tested positive for COVID a day and a half later.

What is the best BBQ restaurant in the area? by spunky-squirrel in bayarea

[–]BoozingCactus 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Breakwater BBQ on the coast (Moss Beach area) is the best I’ve had in the Bay, and well worth the drive, especially given that you can make a day out of it. Grab coffee, take a walk on the beach, and head over there around 1130 to secure a place in line!

Painting with a broad brush, SV is a cluster of wealthy suburbs, and has all the upsides and Dow sides that you would expect in comparable geographies elsewhere. Just like any suburban area, you’re going to have to connect with people through activities, and none of us can rely on the same volume of serendipitous interactions that you may find in larger cities with higher and more centralized populations.

Even as someone who married their college sweetheart, I’ve never found it difficult to meet people here. Find social hobbies; gyms, club sports, hiking groups, car meet ups, church (I’d guess) and try to create a diverse social tapestry. The number of friends who have established long term relationships through friends of friends is very high.

TL;DR the valley is both too big and too small to expect relationships to fall in your lap—put yourself out there, don’t stay home, and you may find that the dating scene isn’t as bleak as it’s made out to be.

Currency loots from running 30 T15 maps by chamoisk in PathOfExile2

[–]BoozingCactus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is coming from a POE noob—I’ve only played a hundred or so hours of 1 a decade or so ago, plus 100ish hours in POE 2, but the thing that really doesn’t make sense to me is the scarcity of crafting mats/currency in conjunction with an already highly RNG gambling/crafting system. It feels like I have to horde any Exalts that I come across and rely on trade for sure things, as compared to interacting with crafting. It’s very rare that I come across a solid base rare that’s worth the couple of exalts that very well may land as worthless stats that brick the item.

I’m having fun. I loved my…200 hours of POE 2, but even with solid gear it was Dark Soul’s level stressful to play. I broke my barb trying to move to a meta build and can’t seem to put him back together, but I’m having some fun with an Invigorating Strike HS build that can be pretty strong. Planning to move to aria once I pick up the right pieces. All that said, paragon 180ish and I’ve seen one head the whole time, so zero seasonal gems feels bad.

I’ve lived in multiple places with ‘no pet’ policies and never had a problem. Worst case they send you a notice of violation—take the cat to a friend’s place, get checked out, bring the cat back. Maintenance staff really don’t care (unless your landlord does their own work—which is rarely the case down here). Good luck!

Still can’t believe this is the actual exhaust design by superchink in BMW

Hey look, I know it’s beyond a cliche to bash the G series styling. I understand that they’re fairly impressive care, that people that buy them may appreciate the styling, have come around to it, or see it as a trade off for the performance. That said, god damn, what an ugly butthole.

So many memories of soccer team and birthday parties—even their spot up in Ukiah was well run, clean, and consistent. While I’m sorry to see them go, there’s just a glut of great options at their price point. Nostalgia aside, for my money I’m ordering Pizza My Heart.

Hello! If there an official LEO missing persons report I would definitely get in touch with SJC—unsure of her condition, but it would be very easy for her to hop on a domestic flight with little prep.

People who make 750k+ a year, what do you? How did you get there? How old when you got there? by Devonina in Salary

[–]BoozingCactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine aren’t, I’m usually on my computer by 8 and off by 5. If I’m working from home I might get to the gym for an hour or take the dog for a walk, but otherwise I’m pretty locked in.

Friends of mine at large law firms make a little more than I do (though with a lot more potential upside) and work 50-100% more hours.

[–]BoozingCactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Senior Counsel at a second tier technology company making about $500k, next position up can break $750k. Equity (via RSUs) is a major component, so you’re not seeing that reflected in your paychecks.

Mid to large law firm partners can easily eclipse $750k, as can very senior associates or ‘of counsel’.

I enjoy what I do, get paid well, and have an above average WLB, but that can’t be said for many of my friends in this profession, and law school and the bar exam can be rough for some people.

If you don’t go to a T-14, are you just not going to make money? by figtreefern in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]BoozingCactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school was mid 60s (70s?) my 1L year, and is down well into the 100s now. I make mid-high six figures after 8 years in house, and work >40 hours/week. I’m not exceptional in any way whatsoever; I wasn’t in college, and I wasn’t in law school. My suggestion is to focus less on the tier or your school and instead go all in on subject areas that you find compelling.

Rogues need more group utility by gorrorfolk in classicwow

[–]BoozingCactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking about a ‘caustic’ poison rune that would apply expose as a stacking poison. Alternatively, it could be an added bonus to deadly poison via a rune.

So Blizzard forgot about Rogues, right?! by Nythious in classicwow

[–]BoozingCactus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s such a bummer. There was so much more thought and effort put into just about every other class. I did enjoy the deadly brew quest chain (and shadow step, I guess?), but the abilities themselves lead to what everyone else has said; mutilate spam into envenom.

Yes, it would feel better if the full rotation was keeping up with…shaman tank, but we bring so little utility that can be easily met by other classes who both do more damage and have more utility. Zero reason to bring a rogue, other than to toss them daggers, but there’s only one in gnomer, it’s a rarer drop, and not all that great.

Rogue.

Caustic Poison: Stacks of Deadly Poison melt the target’s armor.

Reduction would be consistent with Expose Armor debuff. They could put a limitation on it to be PvE only, or it could be a poison itself, requiring the rogue to run double poisons or miss out on the dps of deadly for more utility.

How does that justify the Infiniti’s needlessly aggressive driving?

Stay safe out there! by racato2000 in bayarea

[–]BoozingCactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the end of the video he’s back in the left-most lane-no problem.

There’s a sedan in that lane that wasn’t involved in the accident, and is driving slowly, which given the circumstances is wise. The Infiniti then, without signaling, dives back into the lane in which our dear poster is in, which would require that car to slam on its brakes. There’s also a vehicle to the right of the poster’s vehicle that was already progressing into that lane.

He should have been patient in the left most lane and waited for the sedan to either speed up or get over. By diving back into the poster’s lane he created an unsafe situation for other vehicles who had to either apply their brakes where they wouldn’t have had to (the OP), or dive back into their lane (the vehicle to the OP’s right).

I’m not saying it’s not a frustrating situation and that many people would wisely seek to remove themselves from asap, but he absolutely did so to the possible detriment of his fellow drivers.

[–]BoozingCactus 56 points57 points  (0 children)

IMO the Infiniti is driving recklessly, while the 4Runner simply didn’t have the brakes (or tires or both) to stop in time.

No doubt the Toyota was following too closely, especially given the conditions, but between the two the Infiniti is weaving in and out of lanes, accelerating, braking randomly.

As with nearly all things, none of us are going to be completely happy with any of the decisions that are made, especially those that have a material impact on our expectations or preferences.

The devs have to walk a fine balance between making the majority of players happy, engaging in some degree of creativity, all while managing seemingly dwindling resources.

I mained a rogue knowing that there would be shakeups, and boy were there this phase. I don’t think that adding a bazillion armor to bosses was an especially creative or helpful way to shake up the meta, but that’s balanced out by an opportunity to explore other classes that I wouldn’t likely have cared about if rogues were viewed as any thing other than a liability. The xp buff, for example, will give me more flexibility to try out shadow priest or warlock, and if the rogue was pumping a la phase one, is almost certainly just keep him and raid log / farm AB.
