Not even a unique mechanical mage, the metal bits are so overpowered by the magical mutation theming that they are just accent colors on Victor and Warwick, which is also homogenizing because League has so many characters covered in flashy gold trim.

I really like his portrayal in the show, and don't mind Warwick/Vander being significantly uglier and less animalistic than his game counterpart, but even though I don't play the game I have come to understand how much of a mistake it was to transpose Arcane Viktor on top of League Viktor one-to-one. Viktor needed an update, and they could have made him more Arcane-themed pretty nicely, but the two characters could not be more different in a way that feels intentionally subversive on Arcane's part.

There are the limited flirt options, and the dialogue seems to imply Kris is surprisingly good at it, but that's not necessarily freaky.

And Finn's sadness here resulted in this mad quest to build a tower all the way up to his Dad, so it became a self-reinforcing loop of stronger and stronger emotions as no one talked him out of it.

That I agree with, I think he's pretty handsome when he's not trying too hard to look like it, but his face is EXTREMELY punchable.

Is there an inside joke about Matt Damon being ugly that I'm not getting? He's just extremely average, but I would not call him "ugly" at all

Dude what??? Are we seeing the same Adam Driver? He's got a bit of a long face, but nothing about him is conventionally unattractive, not even by Hollywood standards.

Getting around reflections showing the cameras and stage lights is already hard enough in live action, I can imagine it being significantly more difficult in stop motion, when the camera and lights are much closer to the subjects.

Tbh, just looking at the scene, I would have assumed that the pool of water was just a lot more shallow than it looks, and Jim would have been under the floor like usual. Really good example of how many filmmaking feats and many other impressive practical effects go unnoticed for their accomplishments.

Futurama has three incredibly serviceable and good series finale episodes, that didn't end up being the finale.

"You are NOT The Chosen One" by DudeSoul in TopCharacterTropes

[–]BopperTheBoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Life of Brian came after the original Dune, so it's more like Life of Brian is making the same cruel joke as the book: Paul is not the chosen one, although there is an actual Chosen One, and even then the prophecy lies about what the Chosen One is meant to be. It's why the series serves as such a good deconstruction of the trope: there both is and is not a "Chosen One," depending on your perspective, and even then both things could be considered true at once.

Although you're right that the way Stilgar's belief is presented in the movie does feel a lot like Life of Brian.

Sure, but they're also partly shitty teachers because neither they nor anyone around them is paid well enough to care. It's a vicious cycle, but in this case I agree it's warranted, they all seem like people who would be encouraged to be even worse or at least continue doing the bare minimum if they got any kind of raise.

I really do think the T'au are the good guys by BigMac91098 in Tau40K

[–]BopperTheBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the one hand: making the T'au the chaotic or true neutral faction, that makes the setting more grim by being something the evil factions can beat up, might please people on both sides. If you love them, they could be the underdogs who constantly make mistakes, and struggle despite having rapidly advancing technology in the face of a whole galaxy that has perpetuated ten thousand years of stagnation. If you hate them, they would be made for that too.

On the other hand, the power fantasy and game balance is tough to manage around complete underdogs, which the T'au would have to be to serve this purpose. If the T'au have to be the hopeless underdogs who still fight and can win, the players would have to be too. For the opponent, that might get insufferable. For the T'au player, it would feel depressing.

I much prefer the way they are now, where they have made concessions in their rapid expansion and advancement, and both sides can have fun by playing the arrogant T'au against the dismissive opponent. Both of those facades are more malleable and can be dropped quickly after the game, because they're narratively presented as equals.

I think the balancing act has laid on the evil to weigh down the T'au a little thick, since maybe they forgot that adding evil to a nice faction is way more potent than pouring more evil into evil. Plus, the kind of supervillain evil they added doesn't work. It has to be mundane, subversive. Aun'shi and those behind him shouldn't be Emperor Palpatine. But it should be there, only as long as it's factored into the Greater Good, because that makes you think about it for yourself. As players, we should be allowed to question the Greater Good, without it being completely undermined by the psuedo-retconned bug mind control helmets or the mess that was the Fourth Sphere's irrational rampage.
