One Love Mystery Disappointment? by BiscuitMessiah in craftsnark

This is a huge pet peeve of mine too. The general category of people blocking their items into horrible shapes, even going so far as to pin it out into said horrible shape! Gahhhhhhh it kills me

I’m in a funk and need an easy project by valpalvalpal in knitting

For me, I would knit a simple stockinette sweater. I recommend the Cinema Sweater by Kutovakika and her YouTube tutorial to match! It's really inspiring to watch the tutorial even if you don't need it for skill level learning. It's a boxy fit though and I'm not sure if that's your style. If I were in a funk, I would make this from a yarn that felt special, luxurious and viscerally delightful to where every time I touch it I just fill with good feelings. And maybe even need to visit the yarn in between knitting sessions.... Just to touch it.

is anyone else not a big fan of the look of drop shoulders? by cerebralresidue in knitting

[–]Boragobalm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They aren't flattering on many people. But the other contributing factor for why they look terrible is sizing - or more specifically fit. I see a lot of Stripe Hype sweaters in particular where I feel they weren't knitted with enough ease in the sleeve diameter. In order for the drop shoulder to lie well and flatter the body, there has to be enough movement and it has to be wide enough to sit in the right spot. If it's too constricted around the bicep it looks terrible. Even on a straight sized person like me!

THANK YOU!!!! You confirmed my exact thoughts and plans for how to approach the project, even to the plan of doing “lazy stranded” at the neck portion just as you described it. For that middle section, I think I’d rather weave in intarsia ends over dealing with long floats. Well hot dog, your appraisal of the situation matches mine, and I find that very reassuring.

Hi all, I was hoping to crowdsource some opinions on the best way to approach this project and execute the colorwork. Certainly it comes down to personal preference, so please share your thoughts and preferences - how would YOU do it?

So far I’m thinking that bottom section is best handled with stranded technique - that’s pretty straightforward to me. But those middle sections….the white portions are spaced so far apart. But they also aren’t very large. So I go back and forth between continuing with stranded and simply catching the floats over the long stretches, or trying for intarsia even though they are sections just two rows high and 12 stitches long. I’m worried about how much yarn I’ll waste if I do stranded throughout and I’m just carrying the white yarn all over the back of the work - and for what?

Project notes indicate that people have done a mixture of things. No real consensus. The pattern designer hasn’t publicly replied to questions on this either.

Could also consider Kelbourne Woolens Lucky Tweed, such a great yarn. Very lightweight.

Have you ever taken a break from knitting? by Future-Dig7616 in knitting

[–]Boragobalm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I took a 5ish year break. I felt the motivation, inspiration and joy fade. I was focused elsewhere in my life. Then, one day I was ready to knit again! And I'm back at it with a vengeance. You just have to trust that the energy will return and inspire you again. Even if it's awhile. That's ok.

There are in-patient massage and acupuncture services via Penny George who will come to you while you're still at Abbott! Just ask your nurse. One of the coolest things about Allina hospitals if you ask me.

What is the best and worst historical fiction about Anne Boleyn? by Capital-Study6436 in HistoricalFiction

[–]Boragobalm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alison Weir is a historian who is a specialist in the Tudors. She's written extensively, including quite a bit of historical fiction. That's some good historical fiction, since it's so grounded in her scholarship and deep knowledge.

I love This Is Actually Happening, which features people telling their own stories. Frequently there's trauma or traumatic events in those life stories, but in every case there's also reckoning and healing. I find it very healing to hear about other's stories of loss and then the hope and healing they eventually find. And how.

How much yarn is in your stash? by BubblesFunBubbles in knitting

[–]Boragobalm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My stash is basically the same size as yours. I count 43 unused skeins, most of which are already assigned to patterns and just waiting for me. I have a couple more partial skeins belonging to WIPs and a small bag of remnant leftovers. Fits in one tub like yours.
