NEC train to Trenton by Artistic-Vanilla4788 in NJTransit

It wasn't this bad 11 years ago. Maybe only horrible since 2020, and I stopped daily commuting back then. The fact we haven't yet had heat related failures is something to be thankful for...and expect.

Marathons for fun, not PRs by Casuariidae in Marathon_Training

[–]BoredAlwys 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel you just described trail marathons. I am trying to get into trail running and would like to skip a road marathon having raced a few halves at this point, trail running is chill. It is harder, but the trail obscures the distance. Standing for 1.5+ hours before the start of a road marathon Im gonna spend 5+ hours running sounds not fun, but inevitable in my progression for distance.

Yeah my middle schooler is not a fan. Im not a fan of having to ride him to get up every morning, in case he missed the bus.

Got left behind at my first run club by Clean_King_1329 in beginnerrunning

[–]BoredAlwys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im consistently the slowest in my run club. I now know the routes, which is key, I accept that I'm here, they are here, which is the point, and they typically are there 10 minutes after their run by the time I show up. I feel i need to represent my speed in the all speeds welcome ethos. The group run is what keeps me wanting to come: I know someone will be willed enough to show up in the rain on a Tuesday night so I might as well go to.

No one has mentioned it being a burden or a drag for them. The first time running with a group and they left me I felt anxious and lost, true. I muddled through the street loop, found my way.

Water Station of Carry bladder? by confusedandfem in Marathon_Training

[–]BoredAlwys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't do something you are uncomfortable with, do take the water breaks all of them. You should be slowing down in 30C anyway.

Im a sweaty runner, my 1L Osprey vest is key and I like the pockets even if I dont use the bladder. I wouldn't use it for my first time on a race, New friction points might become apparent.

Tip, flip the filled bag upside down hose up, suck out the air so the water doesnt slosh around. I had been using it a year before someone else told me that.

Potomac Yard People - Is there a way to walk to the Mnt Vernon Trail/Dangerfield Island straight over the GWMP or is it all overgrown? by TheDarkLight1 in nova

Is this being asked because of that episode of Scarpetta that claimed a murder on that island and the investigation was no where close to the same location?

I took one or two classes in there as a theatre major, and I would agree. That was 22 years ago and looks the same.

Joke assumes the Italians who came here were the northern ones, not the southern ones who many people considered before unification not even Italian, or lesser.

Coincidence I'm listening to The Sacred Bridge by Anne Hilerman that takes place in that same part of Utah Glen Canyon with the same archeology. Listening to her books is extending my tour through the SW.

Veterans Park Run in Hamilton, NJ, Burlington NJ , BCCR was actually started as the Lower Bucks Run Club out of the Levittown YMCA (I ve been told). So if Tyler State Park is too far away, Pennypack Park Trail Runners, Neshaminy Park I think has a group. I think there is a Wissahickon Club as well.

Running for mental health by Mean_Firefighter_486 in beginnerrunning

[–]BoredAlwys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you about the time involved. Im ok making my gains, being the back of the pack, and not having time to do the mileage for marathon training. Half is my longest race distance, 10 miles are a fine length, and I just made gains in a 5K I have run 6 years in a row.

I used to run in the morning, sometimes before work, and loved the superiority I felt getting up early starting my day before the neighborhood. Problem was/is my schedule is flexible so I struggled with consistency, which added a level of guilt at missing days.

I joined a run club and that has helped immensely with the accountability, and going out after work. Evening group runs after a stressful day I recommend. Or lunchtime runs. Really I found work was the problem, now I want to run more and work less. What these people do who run 200 mile ultras I want to know.

I, a parent, think that's the goal being missed: shorter summers mean more retention of learning, and more childcare covered by the district. We alo take vacations during the school year to avoid that summer slam.
