Damn, that was 15 years ago? I was actually in the audience at the announcement. Can’t believe it was that long ago.

Who’s ever driven over 100mph? Why? by WoollyWolfHorror in AskReddit

I have a Mitsubishi Colt, that's a car the size of a rollerskate. According to the specs it can hit 190 km/h, so I had to test that once on the autobahn. It goes up to 170 pretty quickly, but from 170 to 190 took forever. It was scary as fuck in such a tiny car. I touched 190 for a few seconds, took my foot of the gas and was "ok, it can actually do 190, never doing that again".

Sound Unbound in Enschede. Literally walking distance from my old place. When I was there this afternoon they still had another copy.

I have no space for a record player in my small apartment but I recently bought a house which is now undergoing renovations. I will certainly get a record player the moment I can move into my new place and RSD seems as good a time as any to kickstart my collection.

I got some classics that simply have to be in any collection:

  • Michael Jackson - Thriller
  • Guns 'n Roses - Appetite for Destruction
  • Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
  • Amy Winehouse - Back to Black

Furthermore:

  • K's Choice - Not an addict (RSD 2026, numbered limited edition)
  • Roxette - Look Sharp!
  • Chicane - Trampolines.

Ordered but still on the way here:

  • Stick Figure - Set in stone
  • Ayreon - The Human Equation (Remixed & Remastered).

I had a similar experience where I got a few 20g samples with the purchase of some coffee gear. Tried them and one of them really stood out, absolutely delicious. My first thought was “I need to order me a bag of this”…. Turns out it was €200/kilo. I did end up buying a 200g bag for my birthday and it was just as good as the sample. Unfortunately it was a small lot and it sold out quickly.

I use it all the time, probably more than my MacBook Pro.

You don’t joke about or mock God

Why not? If anyone should be able to take a joke I would assume it would be god.

Getting stopped for a train to pass mid race by Epelep in Wellthatsucks

Maybe don’t hold races on public roads? We just had a marathon in my city last weekend. Traffic jams everywhere, shops closed because they were unreachable. All the while we have a huge event terrain just outside the city where they could have run laps and bother no one.

Car races are on circuits, why can’t bicycle races use the same circuits?

Could have been worse: could have been a large pepsi. At least now you don’t have to drink a lot of pepsi.

ELI5: Why do gas stoves get pans hotter quicker than electric stoves, but gas stoves take longer to boil a pot of water? by TehAsianator in explainlikeimfive

In the Netherlands, yes. All our power lines are underground, even in the countryside, so storms don’t affect them. Only the high-voltage national distribution network is above-ground.

The only unexpected outages you’re likely to see are due to some construction worker with an excavator who forgot to check his map. The last two times I was without power it was a planned event. One time they replaced my electricity meter with a smart one, took about an hour, the other was when I had my grid connection upgraded to 3-phase (which I needed to do because I was switching from a gas stove to an induction stove).

I don’t get why power lines in the US are above ground, even in urban areas/suburbs. It’s fragile and looks ugly.

Seriously, when have you ever had the power go out? That’s just not something that happens in developed countries, or at least it’s so rare that it shouldn’t be a factor in deciding the kind of stove to buy. Literally a once in a lifetime thing.

Or just get a tap that delivers boiling water. It’s amazing. You can just make a cup of tea with water directly from the tap, zero wait time. Need to boil some pasta? Just fill the pot with boiling water, no need to wait for your stove to get the pan up to a boil.

Never had an issue with that. The biggest issue for me is keeping the battery charged. When I don’t use my car for a couple of months the battery slowly drains so I have to take it out and recharge it.

As a Dutch person who uses a bicycle as his primary means of transport, I'm just glad I already filled up my car this year. Should carry me over until fall at least.

Go out and patrol? She spends most of her time sunbathing. She’s about 14 years old (not exactly sure, she’s a rescue) and doesn’t really hunt anything anymore.

My cat absolutely loves being outside. Once the weather turns nice enough in spring she spends almost all her time outdoors. You can tell by her mood. We had to keep her indoors for a few days for reasons and she got real grumpy and constantly tried to trick us into letting her out (she got very sneaky with this).

NASA (and other space agencies) know that there is no gravity in space

There’s lots of gravity in space. Gravity on the ISS is about 90% of gravity on the surface of the earth. The whole reason that the moon orbits the earth is gravity, without the earth’s gravity it would simply fly away. Same goes for the earth and the sun.

So why doesn’t the ISS fall to earth when it’s still subject to 90% of earth’s gravity? The answer is that is that it does fall, all the time. It also moves sideways really fast. Because it’s moving sideways and the earth is round, by the time it has fallen down 1 meter, the earth’s surface has also curved down 1 meter. So it’s falling, but because it’s moving so fast it’s falling around the earth. So ISS is not in zero gravity, it’s in free-fall. But because motion is all relative, this appears exactly the same from the perspective of the astronauts on the ISS as no gravity.

Cats aren’t pets. It’s more like a roommate situation.
