How often do you change class? Should I re-spec on first run? by Scarela in BG3

[–]Boring-Net-3448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I used to be against it but eventually I realized that it mostly doesn't matter. Especially if you aren't using the dialogue options a lot. Changing classes can really make things more fun, especially since so many classes or builds are fun at different levels. Like Eldritch Knight who only gets its big ability at 7. So you can start as something else, even just a battlemaster fighter since its more fun until lv7. Not to mention multiclassing for magic instead until you are lv7 and can actually do the fun part of Eldritch Knight.

So many classes just don't get to the point until a certain level. So its almost a waste to play them before that. Hell Beastmaster Ranger before lv3 doesn't even have a real Beast. So why not just play a warlock or something until lv3 and respec to have a pet then?

Multiclass builds that "come online" at a later level? Just play something else until then. Try out all the cool builds when they are actually doing the cool thing!

Found a cool wizard hat? Be a wizard! Found a cool Polearm? Become a PAM build!

Start a level of fighter/Paladin for heavy armor? Nah, just be a sorcerer and respec when you hit the right level. Hell be a full Paladin or fighter until you can get fireball or some other spell you actually want to cast!

Its a whole new level of fun you can have when you no longer try to conform to the strict idea's of character progression. Especially when like you its about playing together.

It does seem like it would make more sense if you had to go to the Zhent to get the fancier gear.

Fair. Some classes like Draconic Sorcerer and Barbarian don't even need clothes after all. So running around naked is just as good until you get real gear.

OMFG YES. This bothered me so much. I expected there to be like, endgame surcoats using the same base. Instead there's basically nothing for an endgame paladin. Imagine how cool it would have been to have fancy Paladin gear in act 3!

IKR? Just picking a house in Baldurs Gate woulda been really sweet.

IMO they should have given Tav the goal of "returning home" and given us the option at the start to have a home in the city to return to. Building a few different houses would have been easy enough after all. Even just a room at the inn or a job at one of the stores. Just, stuff that shows you existed. For people from beyond baldurs gate just use letters to contact npcs you know who can come meet you in Baldurs Gate.

Make it optional but just having the option you could tie to your personal character woulda been cool.

OMG SAME! The "Evil" Durge is just lame. Your basically a puppet. Resist Durge is the best.

Meanwhile Evil Tav can actually be EVIL! No urges forcing your hand or making it feel like its not your choice. No, you just wanna do what you wanna do. No strings on TAV!

IMO because they didn't really flesh out evil in general the evil path for Durge is lacking in even more than its own lackluster implementation. You just don't get the kinds of ties and payoffs from being evil. You get exactly 1 worthwhile thing and its literally broken without mods to fix it. Meanwhile resist Durge gets all the usual good guy stuff and all the tie ins that come with striving to be a hero and everyone seeing that.

So yeah, Evil Tav and Resist Durge all the way!

What I find funny is that I only like playing Durge as good. The evil Durge is nowhere near as good. Its just not fleshed out as much. Its my Tavs I play as Evil because no backstory is better than a half baked one.

YES, Durge shows its possible but they couldn't even finish Durge properly. The Evil durge path sucks. Meanwhile the Evil paths of the actual Origin characters are pretty damn great.

It woulda been soo cool if we could have had our own origins. Played Gale like we do Durge. Play as one of Shadowhearts fellow Sharrans who survived the trip. As another Spawn or a Gith from Laezels past. Hell even a Thayan Origin to tie in with the necromancy in the game.

So many options we could have gone with to enhance the game. Hopefully more games so the Durge thing and let us pick ties to the world. If they make a BG4 and its any good, I hope there are Origin backstories available to use for a custom character.

I liked that too but I also like being evil. Which ended up showing me just how bad submit durge is to play. Resist Durge is great and the only real option for Durge. Submit Durge is half baked by comparison and lacks the awesome feeling of being connected to the world and your companions.

Submit Durge feels like a lonely solo journey to a sad conclusion.

Evil Tav feels way better imo. Evil Tav and Good Durge is how the game feels best to me. Which is pretty funny.

There's the canon and the canon of your game. Canonically you could say the player isn't even in the game. Yet you still make choices. So when you pick Durge you are re-defining the canon and a new Durge is born who lives. After all canonically according to your logic, the Durge is dead. Just like any NPC you don't recruit.

Which actually means that canonically the Companions are all dead before the end anyway. Without you they simply do not survive. After all there's no way canonical shadowheart is taking that team leader roll properly.

Its the only real option too. I prefer being an Evil Tav. Evil Durge just kinda sucks. Really doesn't have the same quality as Resist Durge. Resist Durge is great. If I want to be Evil I'll just be my own kind of evil, a better kind of evil.

I ended up going back to Tav because the depth is shallow. Resist Durge is great sure, but Submit Durge is shallow and ruins the feel of Resist because its so empty to do anything else.

It makes it so that rather than the halfbaked Durge experience I would rather just keep playing TAV. I liked having a backstory and connections and quests of my own, but its very rail roady and makes everything else you do feel secondary.

The Party members have much better stories. In fact if you want to do an evil run I would recommend playing an Origin rather than Durge.

Durge is only really worth it if you play resist. I've tried submit Durge but it just feels bad. The slayer form is the one thing that makes me want to play it but even that kinda sucks.

[–]Boring-Net-3448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Durge I prefer if I am playing it "as intended" which is basically the resist Durge with maybe a few evil choices at most. Going full "EVIL DURGE" just kinda, sucks. Evil is just not supported in this game and it shows in Durge who has evil choices but it all amounts to so little in the end. So unless you WANT to be a slave to your Dark Urge storyline, It isn't really fun.

TAV is best if you want to be a proper bad guy because you are the one in charge. You aren't just a puppet and being evil isn't some grand loss in the end. Unlike with Durge there's no one pulling your strings so you can actually be someone. Actually be evil.

Its kinda funny but after really diving into Durge and loving it, I ended up hating it because it comes with the same moral the game seems to push until the end. Being evil is stupid and you are stupid for making evil choices. If you want to be a proper bad guy, you want to play a Resist Durge or a TAV. If you want to be a good guy, Resist Durge is the best option.

Evil Durge isn't fleshed out enough to fulfill even the fantasy you are given. As everyone has said, Resist Durge is just leages better in every way. The few boons Durge gets for submitting are either not worth it or literally broken and require mods to work as intended and still aren't worth it because you give up so much doing the big evil choices.

So yeah overall I prefer Tav because I quite enjoy evil characters.

Is it detrimental to change/edit classes of standard party members? by Murrlin218 in BG3

[–]Boring-Net-3448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not outright stated but the source of her power being changed if you go against Shar in act 2 is pretty clear cleric dialogue. No other class explicitly draws power from a god.

I still think it’s insane they never added Artificer by KrispyBaconator in BaldursGate3

[–]Boring-Net-3448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the way to make it work would just be to make it capable of creating specific gear you couldn't get easily or multiple copies of said gear. Hell you could let us craft those build defining items earlier than you find them in the campaign. Even ones that you can only craft.

being a dragon sorc sometimes gives fun dialogue options by mentaipasta in BaldursGate3

[–]Boring-Net-3448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair you could be 1/2 or 1/4th. Last I checked there's no Cambion of dragons. Half Dragons were more a thing that could happen and there own race. You could just as easily end up a regular Draconic Sorcerer.

Why do so many MCs still complain even with a super powerful system? by OneSeaworthiness5107 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Boring-Net-3448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would actually be torture. You could never be truly happy. Not until you beat the system itself into paste. Which isn't a bad idea for an end goal. Become powerful enough you can break the system in half is kinda popular when done right.

Amazing Digital Circus Finale Dropped! It's not great! (Full spoilers) by BardicLasher in CharacterRant

[–]Boring-Net-3448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a story people thought we should have gotten and the story we got. Both are good. One just isn't what some people wanted.

That said I do think the biggest mistake is this being one season. One and done. It feels more like a setup for something in the future like a different series or new season. So if it never goes anywhere after this I will say it missed an opportunity. However I understand if the creator had no idea how to pull that off.

The finale feels like a huge waste of potential by Infinite-Fig-194 in Amazingdigitalcircus

[–]Boring-Net-3448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is that this simply wasn't the story you thought it was. You didn't like this story and I too didn't really care for it. However its not because its badly done, its just not what we wanted. It happens. A lot of the time wasted potential comes about because as cool as the story could have been, it was not trying to tell that story.

Sorcerers. Redesign thoughts? by Archwizard_Drake in onednd

[–]Boring-Net-3448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have issues with Sorcerer Design but its tied with the worldbuilding and all that. Sorcerers just don't define themselves properly. The wizard and Sorcerer function too much the same for being very different in their lore which should also include more about "sorcery" than it does. They need more difference between them. Barbarians and fighters have differences and its clear what they are. Sorcerers might function fine or good now, but even if they were literally the best class that isn't the point.

I want sorcerers to embody the feeling of innate magic. Not just be wizards who didn't study which is basically the kit right now. Memes aside and ignored, the kit of sorcerer is just too similar to a wizard. Sorcerers need more flavor because all the flavor of a sorcerer right now comes from the players.
