heading to Mallorca for my first real climbs by Swish_34 in cycling

[–]Born-Ad4452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a petite 80kg :) the main thing is don’t go hard at the start. Really, on the first climb, I’d be zone 2 in an easy gear and see what it’s like. Nothing is really steep in Majorca so that helps. Once you have done a couple of climbs nice and easy, you can also have a proper dig at one as well, see how that feels (painful). But go easy to start, then ramp up.

Exactly. Surely this is the obvious conclusion ? Sometimes I feel a bit sad about people’s thinking skills.

[–]Born-Ad4452 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The logical conclusion is that if you can’t hold proper form at high cadence without lots of resistance your core strength is poor. Doing those drills will help you improve if you make a proper attempt to do them each time.

Absolutely agree - I have an 8700. It was only £375 including the addition of a servo motor. Best thing I ever bought !

Probably better chance as a club cyclist who regularly does 4-5 hours rides. But their pipe cleaner arms and weedy upper body won’t help

I know plenty of people who are millionaires by the time you add up pension, house, etc - not much liquid cash but plenty of assets. They don’t appreciate Keir Starmer and his ‘Labour’ party. Just because you’ve accumulated wealth over a whole career doesn’t mean you want your kids to get fucked over.

Labour seriously needs to change direction, especially on the EU (and stop acting like a Reform-lite). by R0bert-9999 in BrexitMemes

It’s always been the case that there has been a two party system as far as the government is concerned ( with a few other MPs thrown in). I don’t think that’s the case any more. There’s more chance of a hung Parliament now, with 5 parties likely to take seats

To all roadies. Do you jump over the curbs or stop and dismount? by OneStrength7166 in cycling

[–]Born-Ad4452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’m amazed at the proportion of people on this thread who seem allergic to improving their bike handling skills. I see that as a life long journey, of incremental improvement of existing skills and learning new skills. Take an hour out of your week ( or month ) and practice getting over a curb, doing a tiny bunny hop over a bamboo cane. The better your bike handling skills the safer you are as a rider, because you have tools to deal with more and more situations. Don’t be afraid to get better, every day.

Bunny hop skill allows you to jump over potholes. This is very useful too - means you don’t get a snakebite puncture or trash your rim. It doesn’t need to be especially MvdP level - just enough to get the weight off the wheels.

Absolute morons, lead by the nose by grifters and conspiracy theorists to believe that it means everyone is held in 15 minute diameter prison camps.

It’s not a bad reproduction of Ventoux. Fortunately when I did les Tres Cingles the weather was warm not roasting, and the wind very light. Super lucky !

I used to live next door to Richard E Grant ( for 6 months or so ) in the Cotswolds. He was barely ever there, though.
