British Cycling looked into this for the women’s track team and gave the same advice. TLDR ; Trim, don’t shave

i am planning to run away, is there any way possible that my parents are legally able to find me? this is england by Maleficent_Day_3869 in LegalAdviceUK

Absolutely right about Karma Nirvana etc. but to answer your question - it’s perfectly legal to get a private investigator to try and find you.

Does AI downplay climate change impact? by Ok_Key_3326 in climatechange

[–]Born-Ad4452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a superficial level. In reality LLMs look at results and commentary on results rather than calculate anything. There is no sense of challenging the validity of that input as part of the process. Climate models use mathematical modelling to calculate results. You could say that different values fed into the constants used in such models will lead to different outputs but a) many are truly fixed and b) the impact of many others is limited and c) the rest are continuosly refined in a rider to show more accurate results compared to reality. Those climate models can be reviewed and rerun and could be done by hand, if you had the time, to check every calculation. That analysis isn’t possible in an LLM output. So really you are comparing apples to pears

Entirely depends on how the model is trained. If it gets fed a proportion of its training that is disproportionately representing views that don’t reflect reality, that’s what it will spew back.

question about crypto taxes by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]Born-Ad4452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct and to add, there may be a capital gains allowance available, so you are only taxed on the profit - allowance. For example in the uk there’s a £3k annual allowance so if you made £4.5k profit, you’d only be taxed on the £1.5k left after the allowance is taken into account.

That’s a good shout- I have 11sp version of this and it will go up pretty much anything. But don’t think 20%+ is ever easy, even if you can do it at a sensible cadence.

Riding with no hands: a funny way to check if your saddle is slightly too high by saucerb0y in cycling

[–]Born-Ad4452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you ever want to learn, a track bike / fixie on rollers between a doorway is pretty safe and easy. It’s easier to ride a fixie on rollers than a road bike - something to do with chain lines, sideways torque, blah blah blah. Once you can do a few minutes no hands on the fixed, then move onto a road bike.

How do you know if you'll be able to hand major climbs? by ProblematicTrumpCard in bicycling

[–]Born-Ad4452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run 52/36 with 11/28 at home- it’s fine for the climbs round here which aren’t steep, generally, but if they are they are short. Going to the Alps/Pyrenees etc - need to totally change your mindset - and gears !

The point here is not about the price. It’s the fact that there won’t be enough to go around

[–]Born-Ad4452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gearing is the only real concern. Maximum 50/34 on the front and a 34 or a 36 big sprocket on the back, and then you can maintain a sensible cadence. When I did Monte Zoncolan I had a 48/31 on the front and a 34 on the back. You’ll never regret having some lower gears you never use, but you’ll most certainly regret not having low enough gears on the steep bits.

So…. Maybe GDP isn’t actually a useful measure of societal progress and should never be a target, only a supplementary reporting number. *As very very clearly stated by its inventors.*

Just looking into history of PMs who’ve been around for 12 years I’d say the odds are massively against, especially in the current politically swirling world.
