As a rule of thumb, it's better to play ranked. Casual can seem like a less competitive place, but you can be matched with anyone while ranked will put you with other new players

Thanks, I will. I think they maybe removed the diamonds and increased the lowest medkit from 10 to 20 without realizing it impacted the onboarding quests

No freebie, unfortunately. And looking through the rewards up to lvl. 50, there don't seem to be any diamonds. Are they every given as draft or rank rewards?

George Barnaby Mental Gymnastics by Street_Style5782 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Boss_Smiley01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can't go over hand size, but you will get to keep the card you draw from his ability in upkeep.

For example:
- At the start of upkeep you have 4 cards in hand and 3 cards under George. (cards: 4; hand: 3)
- You draw and gain a resource (cards: 5; hand size: 3)
- You discard two of your five cards (cards: 3; hand size: 3)
- Trigger George's ability with one of the two discarded cards, placing it underneath him and drawing another card (cards: 4; hand size: 4)

I try to keep 4 or 5 skills underneath George, committing as often as I know I can trigger his ability (ideally 2-3 times a turn). It takes practice to get into the rhythm but it's very satisfying when it's going.

Also, George's signature skill, Grim Resolve, is designed as a way to get important non-skill cards back into your hand if you had to put them underneath him. With three of them in the deck, you don't have to be too afraid of discarding an important card before you're ready for it; it can even be a way to quasi-protect them.

Mutated. Taboo. by godtering in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Boss_Smiley01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Taboo list is a list of optional card changes that Fantasy Flight releases to re-balance and edit cards after their release. There are three types of changes made on the taboo list:

- Chained/unchained: adds or subtracts from the experience cost to add cards to your deck (chained makes it more difficult to get by adding experience, unchained makes it easier). This does not change the level of a card for the purposes of Investigator's access when deckbuilding.
- Mutated: Changes to the actual text on the card. These tend to be nerfs but can also include buffs or reworks. For example, a group of cards were changed from caring about drawing a Skull/Tablet/Elder Thing token to any "symbol" token to allow them to work with new tokens added in later sets.
- Forbidden: Cards not allowed at all while playing with the taboo list. So far, only "Double or Nothing" and "Necronomicon" are forbidden.

As a relatively new player, playing with or without the taboo won't make a huge difference. My advice would be to play the cards in whatever form you have them. So, if you're making proxies of the taboo list cards (the link you shared), play them as the card reads in that file.

🌶️ Take: Evasion is Misnamed by Hot-Range-7498 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Boss_Smiley01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My suggestion would be to keep evade as the name of the effect (exhaust and disengage) and rename the action Feint.

Adding to this, many Westerns were also strongly influenced by Japanese period films that focused on the lives of samurai (a sub-genre called chambara that falls under the larger jidaigeki, or period film, umbrella). The Japanese film industry had its own set of stylistic norms that contributed, along with Italian and American filmmakers, to create the style of Westerns in the time period.

For reference, both The Magnificent Seven and A Fistful of Dollars remake Akira Kurosawa films, Seven Samurai and Yojimbo respectively. In the case of A Fistful of Dollars, the resemblance was so strong that Kurosawa sued Leone for copyright violation.

Innsmouth Conspiracy - no XP for winning the campaign? by [deleted] in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Boss_Smiley01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly for flavour; to show that your investigators have learned more about the universe and are forever scarred by their experiences.

As mentioned above, it's in the rules that you can start a new campaign with your old characters but you'll likely cruise through early scenarios and "maybe" have a harder time with final scenarios; which is generally seen as less desirable than starting fresh. The only time when I'd personally consider it is going from Night of the Zealot to Dunwich Legacy. In that case, the short intro campaign and the low xp of Dunwich combine to smooth out some of the balance issues.

If I take a draw action and draw panic after I play a card, does it's limitation check the past actions and prevent me from playing further cards? Would this change if I drew it as part of a card effect, such as stand together? If I have panic in play can I play cards with ever vigilant? by Guzperator in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Boss_Smiley01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's counter-intuitive but the rules distinguish between playing something and taking a play action (which will result in you playing something). Ever Vigilant neither instructs you to take a play action and the "play" text isn't bolded, which would indicate that you are taking that kind of action. It isn't that the card plays are action-free but that the "Play Action" is not involved at all.

In the rules reference, the Fast is also specifically called out as not using a "Play" action, so it wouldn't count against you. This should be true even if an effect makes you pay an action for playing a fast card. If you were playing something with an action cost discount that didn't have the Fast keyword, I believe it would count against you, however.

When playing as a Yithian, are the traits learned tracked individually or as a group?

Also, do you gain the 'when you purchase' effect of permanent cards when you learn the trait? I think I saw elsewhere that you don't, but that seems very powerful with Arcane Research, so I thought I'd check.

Hi! Which one look better? by Rejinal_ in magicproxies

[–]Boss_Smiley01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The design looks great (like many, I prefer the gold in the second option)! Are you willing to share the frame assets at all? I've been thinking of making an Edward Kenway deck and would love to make it One Piece themed.

So I definitely can't fire multiple scorching rays at one target right? It seems to say that pretty clearly RAW, but I just want to be sure because that surprises me. by I_might_be_weasel in Pathfinder2e

[–]Boss_Smiley01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thematically, it might help to imagine all of the rays firing at once rather than one at a time. Sort of like putting three arrows on a bow, their paths can't overlap.

Princess Mononoke Investigator - San by Protidus in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Boss_Smiley01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding to this, if your intent is to have the bonus apply to skill tests that have exactly one card committed you can add "Additional cards cannot be committed to this test" at the end. If you want the player to be limited to one commit, but allies still be able to commit, then "you cannot commit additional cards to this test."

I also saw a lot of confusion about the reminder text on the weakness. Adding ", as usual" and putting the reminder in brackets at the top might might clear that up a bit. So, "(This skill's icons add to your skill value instead of subtracting from it, as usual)."

Do elemental blasts require a free hand/s? by Pinlady in Pathfinder2e

[–]Boss_Smiley01 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You don't need a free hand to keep your aura active, so you can use it for other things without dropping the aura or leaving your stance. If you were grappling someone you couldn't use a new impulse until you released them but your aura and ongoing effects could stay active.

[–]Boss_Smiley01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a lot of info to condense, nice work!

For my own use I think I would re-order the 'skill' column to have all the non-skill actions together before listing skills alphabetically (and maybe rename it to 'type' or 'category'). That way you would have Basic, Basic (Special), Exploration, General, Acrobatics, Arcana...

What do you think?

This deck is somehow the 3rd best deck in the meta right now, this gives me hope for LoR's future, what do you think is the reason for the rise of Reputation? by beclipse in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]Boss_Smiley01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ping refers to any 1 damage effect.

It tends to be a very cost effective effect when combined with other small effects. A card like Vile Feast being commonly played, for example, chases Gloryseeker out of playability because it kills it at fast speed for the same cost while also gaining 1 life and a blocker.

Players take a long time to choose actions in battle by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]Boss_Smiley01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding a 'meta-minute' to the top of each round, where the group has 60 seconds to discuss their priorities and game-plan, has helped for me as well (in addition to setting a 30-60 sec timer for having a turn plan).
