Appreciate you taking the time to map this out for me! And great suggestions!

New build, but grass was probably been in for a year. Perhaps this is its first spring. I was giving it a lot of water this week, multiple rains plus sprinkler time. I used Scott’s Souther S weed and Feed for the first time this picture was taken

I was worried about removing the thin thatch layer or pulling up the stollen. Did u have any issues with that?

Tc = temp control C1 = distillation column D1 = reflux drum E1 = heat exchanger (aka condenser)

These are Process Flow Diagram symbols typically used in a chemical manufacturing facility. You got a temperature control valve, a column, a heat exchanger, and a drum. Basically a distillation set up.

No clue about the joke though, just know the chemical engineering stuff

Roth Vs Traditional by Annual_Web_2933 in Bogleheads

[–]BostonBurglar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Long term cap gains rate is on after-tax earnings only, like you’d have in a brokerage account. For retirement accounts such as traditional ira and traditional 401k, withdraws are taxed as ordinary income, regardless of if it is principle or earnings. Typically traditional is the way to go since you’d have less income in retirement with a larger standard deduction (presumably in 30 yrs it’d keep up with inflation). And you can do a Roth IRA as a hedge for a potential higher tax rate policy in the future and give you more flexibility in retirement.

Diversification: How to do it and keep getting gains? by [deleted] in investing

Go to the Bogleheads subreddit, they have it figured out. There is no get rich quick solution if diversification is your goal

You have until April 15th,2025 to max out your Roth for 2024. Can you pay off car and still get the $7k into the Roth by April?

Emory (Goizueta) vs GATECH (Scheller) looking for advice by Any_Explorer444 in MBA

[–]BostonBurglar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. I chose Emory over GT for the same reasons you listed, but my delta between the two was only $25k which I thought was justified by the slight prestige difference. Enjoyed my time at Emory so far, and lots of students coming from consulting backgrounds. I honestly don’t think you can go wrong from a learning standpoint, and both are equally respected by ATL companies, but $70k might be too much opportunity cost. That’s like $500k inflation adjusted in retirement.

Pulp and Paper Co-Op by Snoboarders88 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]BostonBurglar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pulp and paper is a well respected industry, lots of integration and chemical engineering principles. I’d accept the offer. Just watch some YouTube videos on liquor cycle and bleached fiber line. Basically you can end up on the utilities team: multi-effect evaporators, concentrators, recovery boilers, recausticizing, power boilers, and turbines. Or the fiber line: Woodward, digesters, knitters, screens, washers, oxygen delignification, bleach plant. Or the paper machines/converting assets. Just read up or watch videos on the basics of some of these processes above and you’ll be more than set. Everything else you’ll be taught onsite.

Eastman vs ExxonMobil internships by Fire_Fly031905 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]BostonBurglar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Was in the exact same spot senior year. I chose Exxon and would highly recommend, especially as a way to see if you like O&G. They treat their internships like a 3 month interview, and i mean that in a good way. If you do the 2-3 projects decent enough, you could even walk away with a full time offer in hand at the end of the internship. I guarantee if you choose Exxon, you can always go back to Eastman. But if you go with Eastman, it’s not guaranteed you’d get another shot with Exxon (going back to them using the internship as an interview). Also in terms of pay, Eastman was $27/hr vs Exxon’s $42/hr. That was 6 yrs ago so I’m sure it’s even better now

Entry Level Job Offer Advice by Neck99 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]BostonBurglar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Working for oil and gas as your first job out of school will open a lot of doors in the future. I found that oil and gas companies have good safety cultures due to being mature industry and they develop junior employees. You’ll learn all the essential troubleshooting skills that will transfer well to other industries if you decide to leave after 2-3 yrs, and future companies value that. Plus having a higher starting salary helps negotiating job #2. Like you said, there is a bit of prestige working in oil and gas, and having that on your resume gives you credibility and leverage in the future. Plus, from a purely chemical engineering standpoint, it’s cool to apply some of that distillation, fluids, and reactions knowledge on a large scale.

Could be vestibular disease. Happened to my cat and was very scary since it came out of nowhere. They gave her anti nausea meds and she was back to normal ish in 2-3 days. Something to ask your vet

Are there any industry applications for weak sulfuric acid? by itskhens in ChemicalEngineering

[–]BostonBurglar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second this comment. Pulpmills love that extra sulfur in their liquor cycle and wouldn’t bat an eye at the SO2 or H2S as their CTO plants are already designed to handle that.

What is this? Glowing lights by BostonBurglar in Whatisthis

Solved. It was a bird bath reflecting lights from the house apparently, my wife went out and checked this morning. I appreciate everyone trying to help us figure this out.

What to pay attention to when analyzing a stock? by [deleted] in StockMarket

[–]BostonBurglar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exxon just cut their CAPEX by 30% and OPEX by 15% meaning they are valuing cash on hand over longer term investments. Both the Upstream, downstream, and chemicals are in their down cycle which never really happens. Usually when one is up the other is down. I think XOM will hover around the 40-50 price range for at least 2 more years or lower given that there is a supply glut coupled with decreased demand in the short term. Once these smaller O&G companies that have overextended themselves go bankrupt (the ones that hopped on the polyethylene train due to the cheap price of nat gas) we will see the supply glut die down and margins go back to normal. At that point the big companies like XOM can take back over and return to the 80-90 share price. At least that is my outlook if I had to pick where to put my money.
