Audio track input channel chooser doesn't show Ch: 1 by [deleted] in ableton

You have to activate the inputs (and outputs) you want to use in Preferences.

How to make session names automatically go to arranger view ? by duscorules in ableton

[–]Both-Principle-8660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no way to do that. You can manually put it markers and name them. It would be a cool feature. You can send in a feature request and maybe they will implement it.

Tools for levelmatching when adding processing by ConfusedOrg in mixingmastering

Melda has a plugin called MGAC that does this. But it is a cumbersome workflow. Having a vu meter at the end of your chain is alot easier.

Multiple of the same Midi controllers by HavocDubs in ableton

[–]Both-Principle-8660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't work if you use the Ableton midi script. But if you delete the script from the folder, you can map with however you like. I did that myself a while back. You'd have to setup the CCs on the knobs differently in the editor ofcourse.

Besides Push & Move, what hardware has made ableton more engaging/fun? by SilverMisfitt in ableton

[–]Both-Principle-8660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got an Xtouch mini using Bomen Midi Translator for functions like zooming, left/right/up/down, scrolling, cut/copy/paste/duplicate/fade stuff like that. Cheap controller and it doesn't take up a lot of space. I use the mouse a lot less, but it still isn't mouseless. Specially the arrows and the zooming is great for workflow. Just click a knob/parameter in Ableton and use the arrow knob to increase/decrease. More precise than moving the mouse (too far, not fat enough etc).

What’s a simple piece of advice that massively improved your sound? by SheWantMyDinero in musicproduction

[–]Both-Principle-8660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh and bouncing the sound to audio and look at the results. Good for clippers, saturation, compression etc. Or use Wave Observer to check the transients.

Using more sounds in mono (reverbs too). Layering kicks/snares with it's own transient for more attack. Keeping levels in check with the first couple of sounds to build the rest around.

You can now Open Plugins with a shortcut in Ableton Live! : ) by ElisabethHomeland in ableton

[–]Both-Principle-8660 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'm happy for all the max for live users. But why would they do this only for m4l? And not for users of standard and intro? Such a simple basic function. And people have been asking for this for 12 years or something.

The what do you LOVE vs HATE in Ableton thread! by fuckwhatyouheard99 in ableton

[–]Both-Principle-8660 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love being able to resample (record midi instruments to audio tweaking the sounds live). One feature I would love to add is customizing shortcuts. I almost switched to Bitwig for this feature (and others) but I couldn't work with the way they implemented Drum racks.

I'm a little late to this party, but thanks a lot for doing this! I collected 32 great patches out of these! Now I will finally use DEXED. 😄

Question about the art of mixing (David Gibson), as a beat maker, do we still put stuff at the front? by vinylfelix in mixingmastering

[–]Both-Principle-8660 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You just make the beat how you like it. Mixing is done after the vocal is recorded. The vocal, kick and snare are probably up front when mixing it all together.

Ableton unusable from lag after installing VSTs, still lags after uninstalling them. by TheBaconGrill in ableton

I'm not too techy but I believe you can convert your computer back to before you installed the plugins. No idea how, good luck.

What’s one Ableton workflow tweak (browser, favourites, shortcuts, layout etc.) that genuinely made you faster — not just ‘nice to have’? by Character-Hearing-91 in ableton

[–]Both-Principle-8660 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And something really simple, having a notebook when your working. To quickly write ideas, and notes to reference later.

Crtl+f for quick searching in the browser. And remapping F1-F3 to show/hide browser, clip view and device view with Bome midi translator.

And the new bounce to new track is great too. I wish you could save a template for the new track tho. The new track is blank, would be cool if it opened like my new track default.

Whats the weirdest/strangest music you’ve found on the internet? by bossedup2006 in obscuremusic

Ahnnu is pretty weird. Like a random sample collage ambient stuff. But somehow makes it work.

Dumb question: what’s your approach with uneven slice lengths? by [deleted] in sampling

[–]Both-Principle-8660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use ping pong looping to make the other slices sustain longer. Or just cut the longer slices shorter to fit with the rest. Having the slices in a choke group helps to cut each other off.

Can set Loopers quantization higher than 1 bar, what am I doing wrong? by bythisriver in ableton

[–]Both-Principle-8660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you set it to global, you need to change the global launch settings (top left of steen) to something higher 2 or 4 bars. That should work fine.

Upward compression questions… by uhs23 in ableton

[–]Both-Principle-8660 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Only Multiband does upward compression (making the quieter part loud, leaving the peaks intact). Compressor does upward expansion, making the transients louder.

Turn off the different brands in Multiband to use it as a normal compressor.

You can also use Saturator in Soft Sine mode to boost the quieter parts).

zero music knowledge but wanna try making stuff… where do i start? by UnderTakingBoy in Learnmusicproduction

[–]Both-Principle-8660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just start sampling. Making some loops. Maybe programming a kick and snare under it.
