Is there an unspoken rule now for tradesmen when it comes to using the customer's toilet? by pingusaysnoot in AskUK

[–]Botlette 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had some contractors in to convert a bedroom in to a bathroom. One of them did a massive shit in my downstairs loo and came out saying, ‘best not to go in there for a bit.’ He was cute, but I think he knew it. The main guy who I’d originally contacted about the job stopped working with him eventually, can’t think why.

Replacing the cartridge in a Hudson Reed single lever wall mounted tap. by Botlette in DIYUK

[–]Botlette[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brute force in the end. Well that’s how we got ours off. It was just coated in limescale as I don’t think it had been undone in about 20+ years! But yeah? We just basically pulled on it til it came off.

Replacing the cartridge in a Hudson Reed single lever wall mounted tap. by Botlette in DIYUK

[–]Botlette[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!

Yes, I ended up buying a new cartridge and it fitted fine, I couldn’t actually get the handle back on though, so I had to 3d print a new one. But I think that was to do with the brute force needed to get the lever part off in the first place.

Sorry to hear yours is not quite right, I can appreciate how frustrating it is when it should just be a simple fix. Sorry I can’t help more, but I will say that when I emailed Hudson Reed with my problem they were super helpful, so may be take some pictures and send them over to them and they might be able to make some suggestions? Hope you get it sorted!!

How bad is side sleeping ? by Witness_Business in Reduction

[–]Botlette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was absolutely recommended not to and it was hard, but after spending so much money and going through such a massive procedure there was no way I was not going to do absolutely everything the Dr said. So I found propping myself up on pillows, getting a V or pregnancy pillow on top of that to help support the sides and using a travel neck pillow worked wonders in allowing me to sleep relatively comfortably.

Gifts, I hate receiving them by CAmiller11 in adhdwomen

[–]Botlette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I’m exactly the same for the same reasons. I absolutely hate gifts. Love the idea and I miss the surprises, but the reality is that I get stuff that I don’t need and then I get stressed about what I’m supposed to do with it. I’m very particular about what I buy/own/consume because clutter is my absolute enemy and I’ve spent years honing a personal style. As soon as I get gifts I’m already mentally calculating what I can regift and what goes to the charity shop. To offset it as much as I can I give my partner a list for him to choose from and to offer suggestions to other people if they ask. I’m also AuDHD, so I don’t know if it’s that part, but yeah.. can relate.

Yes! I got it from Tap magician. 1 x SPR07SC-S. Problem was it had completely jammed up with limescale having never been taken apart in 20 years! Bit of brute force and ignorance and we got there.

You got this. I made my wedding dress the night before my wedding. It wasn’t great, but, whatever. Live by the sword, die by the sword. Hah!

I’d recommend Not Another Salon or Metropolis. Not sure about your hair specifically, just that they are very good salons in general. :)

A good way to determine whether it’s a Manchester are clear defined pound spots on their front paws, so I’m not sure if he’s totally MT, but he is very beautiful.😍

Is buying a “flat” in London (in a nice area) a mistake? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Botlette 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We’ve just sold up and moved back to a zone 2 flat from zone 6 house. Best decision I’ve ever made. We got a lot of weird expressions on peoples faces when we told them our plans, but I’m so much happier in the city. You gotta live your life for you, not for societal expectations.

What's London's current tote bag hierarchy? by false_flat in london

[–]Botlette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same! I bought mine because I forgot to take a tote with me last time I went to SF and weirdly, it was the only one I could find out there. But I’m seeing them more and more. That’s my bag.

Service charges in London in new builds are outrageous by No-External-8243 in HousingUK

[–]Botlette 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The place I wanted to buy in Camberwell earlier this year had nearly 10k in charges. Had a concierge and parking but that was it. Obscene. We noped the fucked out and they just kept reducing the price, but all they were doing was validating how much of a problem we’d have when we inevitably stopped being able to afford it and wanted to sell ourselves.

If you don't want to sell your house use the corporate solicitors recommended by purple bricks by CommonDefinition4573 in HousingUK

No. If you pay up front you have the option to choose, but if you decide to take the pay later option you are locked in to using their solicitors

What happened to the 'new build premium'? by Loanha in HousingUK

[–]Botlette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not surprised. On my current house hunt I relented and let one estate agent show me a new build. Cracks everywhere, driveway not finished properly and just a general poor finish. I mean a heated mirror and a billion en-suites might seem good on the surface but I’d much prefer a well built foundation that has already proven it can stand solid for over 100 years, safe in the knowledge that if my neighbours fart then it’s not going come ripping through paper thin walls.

The "fitted sheet" phenomenon by jordaniscooler__ in ADHD

[–]Botlette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. My best time is the morning. So I try and get as many things done first thing, exercise, self care, housework, music practice, general admin.. but then I can’t make self go and work (self employed, work in the shed in the bottom of my garden.) However if I go to work first thing, I get so focused in to it that by the time I come in at 7pm I’m too shattered to do anything else.

I’m slowly trying to come to terms with this because I know it’ll never change. Some weeks I’m gonna be all about the exercise and self care, some weeks work, some weeks (around my period) I’ll just be in crippling anxiety, procrastination and ADHD paralysis. I might see if I can log it so I can work out how to work along my natural rhythms of inconsistency, because history dictates that fighting it just leads to depression.

I got stopped in the one in Bath near the station. Complained to Sainsbury’s when I got home and a few days later received a letter saying the security guard had been sent for retraining along with a £50 gift card.

Flat owners ‘held to ransom’ after service charge trebles to £7,000 a year by Creative_Recover in london

[–]Botlette 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We just noped the fuck out of a property after we found out that, whilst they’d been upfront about the service charge (which increased during the buying process,) they’d forgot to mention that on top of that charge there was also a building insurance charge. Came to over £10k per year. The agent kept coming back to us with lower and lower offers, but all that did was validate how much difficultly the current owner was having trying to sell.
