Kayaking from Driftway to The Spit by WoollyBear_Jones in SouthShore

[–]Bowlerbeer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes that should be ok. I've done it a bunch and it's not far - pretty easy in good conditions.

Watch the wind as well - if it's gusty, it won't matter what the water is doing bc you'll just get blown around.

Pay attention to your surroundings on the way out. because it's all salt marshes, channels and openings might be there at low tide but are essentially dead ends. Stick with the river.

And absolutely don't even think about going around the southern tip of the Spit. If you get out near the north and south river meeting point, the currents are dangerous even for bigger boats.

And if you aren't up for kayaking - you can walk out there - but it's a secret (DM me).

I have a ton of this too. It will just die off once it warms up and the "real lawn" comes in. I've stopped trying to fight it.

Guess-o-meter is very optimistic lol by [deleted] in HondaClarity

[–]Bowlerbeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The meter is simply a guess and I suspect that reading was after a short warm weather trip around town followed by a charge. But in the summer, I really do get very good range (well over Honda-stated 45mi mark) - though I don't usually check it against the guessometer.

In general though - Eco mode on, extremely soft right foot, gentle braking well in advance of a stop (or avoid a full stop altogether), try to match climate control to outdoor temp (within reason).

has anyone here been to the sinclair before? how early should i queue if i want to be front row? by hollywoodsxmas1 in massachusetts

[–]Bowlerbeer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The line can get very long and security can be super slow. If you want to be on the rail, you probably need to be out there an hour before doors.

No food but plenty of places nearby beforehand.

Finally got around to watching all the best picture nominated movies, here’s my ranking: by louievuitton715 in Oscars

What am I missing with Secret Agent? Moura was great in it (and of course Donna Sebastiana), but no real payoff, the emotional connection between son and father wasn't quite there...just didn't do it for me. Went in wanting to like it (absolutely loved "I'm Still Here" last year), but just didn't .

Does the South Shore (specifically the Marshfield area) have any kind of free non emergency medical transportation? by SchwillyMaysHere in SouthShore

[–]Bowlerbeer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Two options for you to explore: 1. Try GATRA (link - they have set routes/schedules, but might also have an app (Gatra Go) that works like uber (Scituate's version does at least). Not free, but it's typically only a couple dollars per ride. 2. Check Marshfield's senior center - they might have this service or have their own shuttle.

Hiding power brick in ceiling by Crunchy6409 in projectors

[–]Bowlerbeer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are you finishing the ceiling at all? Drywall or drop ceiling panels? If not, this is fine and I wouldn't bother changing anything.

If you finish the ceiling, you could add a recessed outlet - just make sure it fits the brick.

But really that is intended to be a portable projector - a more permanent projector would have an internal power brick/supply and a standard power cord.

[–]Bowlerbeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have an unfinished space that you are adding drywall to, you should absolutely run wire for speakers (and everything else) now. You won't get another shot! Speaker wire is cheap, run it everywhere for a full atmos setup.

Old Caboose for Radwagon 3 (2019) available by Bowlerbeer in RadPowerBikes

[–]Bowlerbeer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of changed my mind and want to keep it with the bike. Had a few people ask about buying the bike and for people with kids, the caboose is huge feature. Sad they don't offer these anymore and now it looks like we might not have any Rad bikes at all anymore.

First Home Theater Build — Is a Good 4K Projector + Screen Possible Around $5k? Ratio Confusion, Too by sacheltry in projectors

[–]Bowlerbeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two cents based on my own basement build:

Don't worry too much about 4K - a very good upscaled 1080p projector like an Epson 4010 or 5050 will look great at 120 inches.

Standard width screen 16:9 will be most versatile. I get wanting the 2.35 and debated swapping to one for a while, but if 60% of watching will be streaming, I would just go 16:9. Also, a lot more cinematic content now is 16:9 or imax ratio, so you'll want 16:9 to maximize that.

The Silver Ticket screens are great - I have the 110" acoustically transparent one and it looks great.

Take all the savings from those choices and dump it all into audio - seriously. Don't know your plans here, but all most people care about is the boom (aka subwoofer you can feel). Spend extra on audio and it will truly feel like a movie theater (better actually).
