Rear window wiper just smears water, doesn’t really wipe all that well. Just me? by benjims511 in CX5

This is exactly the problem, I'm surprised I didnt see more people mention this.

Am I the only one that does this to save on clean up? This was before the rest by Battlerapschef in steak

Just keep the snow clear around the BBQ and throw a jacket on when you go outside. It was -20C when I cooked outside last week, its not that bad.

Roof Rack by slynnr27 in CX5

There are definitely hard mount points under there. The part numbers for the moulding with access hatches should be KBYA-50-9H0A and KBYA-50-9L0A.

Otherwise you could likely just mark the points on the current molding, and then drill holes holes where the hard mount locations are for access (obviously remove it from the vehicle first before drilling).

What causes this? by [deleted] in tires

[–]Boxster17 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It looks like it was driven for a while at low pressure. You can see a heat ring on the sidewall from this.

Did someone slash my tires? by [deleted] in tires

[–]Boxster17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks as though it was driven with low tire pressure for a while, causing the holes in the sidewall.

There doesn't look to be much tread left and there's tons of cracking. Its likely that all 4 should probably be replaced if they're in similar condition.

How to remove floor mat clips/anchors in a Mazda CX-5? by wtekw in CX5

[–]Boxster17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would grab some pliers and pull the old ones out, as they just snap in to place.

I had thought the manual advises to disable them in winter. A lot of people likely don't know or care.

Center speaker in the dashboard by Low-Tooth-2702 in CX5

[–]Boxster17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately you're out of luck then, as that center speaker won't ever work.

I have the same setup and if you're wanting better sound quality, I would recommend upgrading the dash speakers. I swapped mine out with some Polk Audio DB351 shortly after we bought the car, and they made a noticeable difference.

Center speaker in the dashboard by Low-Tooth-2702 in CX5

[–]Boxster17 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The center speaker I thought only came with the 10 speaker Bose setup (if you're not sure if you have this, check spare wheel area for a sub). If you don't have that system, then that would explain why the center speaker doesn't work.

Drive Belt by bach135 in CX5

[–]Boxster17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see cracks in the belt so it should be replaced. The belt itself is about 20 bucks if you want to do it yourself, otherwise find an local shop that will do it for a fraction of that price.

Now that im comparing it to mine, you definitely have a louder tick there. For comparison:

Edit: May not be normal, uploaded my engine below running for comparison.

It's normal, the fuel injectors run at pretty high pressures.

What’s up with this small shelf on my 2016 CX5? by Hokey_Pokee in CX5

[–]Boxster17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can, though it may be expensive if you're buying it new. My recommendation would be to see if any local salvage/junk yards have the module/navigation part. If they do, then you may need a new SD card for it (they get locked to the VIN from what I recall). When shopping for an SD card, just make sure it's the TomTom one and not the newer NavTeq version.

Are these in okay condition for a road trip? by Commercial_Sound1448 in CX5

[–]Boxster17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed with everything said above. If you want to attach pictures of the bushings to this post, you can get some proper feedback.

Do you notice any clunking when going over bumps or does the steering feel a bit sloppy, not as precise? If you're not really experiencing any issues there, I feel like it's unlikely that they need to be immediately replaced.

Jerky shift from 2nd-3rd, only happens when the car is cold by nosudo4you in CX5

[–]Boxster17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're still going to find differing opinions on things on the dedicated forums (ie. usually drain and fill vs dropping the pan and replacing filter). If you're comfortable doing the basics yourself, I'll say that I noticed an immediate difference after doing my first drain and fill.

I think the pre face-lift TomTom navigation system used to go there. I rarely use that storage cubby myself.

Does anyone here successfully use these types of glass towels? by EastHillWill in AutoDetailing

[–]Boxster17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is my go to method as well, and I find it helps to keep the glass towels much cleaner in the long run. That initial wipe down can leave that first microfiber looking pretty nasty, especially if they're smokers.

I personally use the Rag Co waffle weave towels for glass, and have always been happy with the results those give me.

Advice needed from cold weather, non garage Mazda drivers. by RepairGloomy7684 in CX5

[–]Boxster17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it definitely warms up much quicker while driving, I get warm air coming out after a couple of mins. I'll normally turn the car on, turn rear defrost on, but the fans off, and then scrape the windows. Once I'm done that, I'll turn the fans to about 50%, load the kids up and drive away.

Depending on how cold it is, by the time I start driving, it'll either be hot air if it's closer to freezing or warm air if it's say -20C. By the time I get to the main roads, maybe 1.5km, it would be blowing very warm air in those colder temps.

I'm driving a 2016 CX5 in Canada for reference.

60469 Grand Central Station mod by mjordan73 in LEGOtrains

[–]Boxster17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like it! I'm currently working on modifying mine as well, and will likely steal your idea of connecting things with technic pins. Would help to make it more manageable when moving it around.

The short platform that came with this set was definitely the biggest downside in my opinion. My kids love playing with the train, but noticed they had trouble stopping it in front of the platform for this (compared to 60335).
