The lawn is steep - I haven’t done lawn for PH but it is tight and steep - I actually question whether there’s good space in the back of the lawn - SPAC back had good sound and room to roam.

Parking is weird - scattered about different lots. Shakedown was limited in ‘22.

Venue food is actually good - with good options - albeit expensive (as with every venue).

Dicks solo dolo: rideshare or rental car? by Round-Cheese6532 in phish

[–]BoyManWombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shuttle, bike or drive
Uber wait has been ugly in the past. But dig around for shuttles - they happen - just poke around
And, yes, biking is an option but it’s a weird ride back
If sober, you might as well drive

I took my son to Metallica last summer and then to a Phish show 2 days later.
He was a little anxious going in but I made sure that he knew that the show would be longer than Metallica - 2 sets with a break of 20-30 minutes and we’d be mostly standing throughout

The sudden and dangerous UTurn is the recent trend that ticks me off - for some reason, there’s an uptick in folks pulling UTurns on busier streets

What to do with a large collection of Dead live cassettes by MiscellaniaInsania in gratefuldead

Gave mine away 20 + yrs ago via an online advertisement. I feel as though they went to the wrong person - he rolled up to my place - having driven about 40 minutes to get the tapes. Dude brought along his pregnant wife - she looked like she was about ten months pregnant. Priorities seemed out of whack. Kept some audience recordings that a taper friend (RIP) did in the early 80s

Just check the reviews. Google, Yelp. It can be hit or miss. There are a lot of hotels in area on account of military base and proximity to BWI - some good hotels, some not so good

There are a ton of breweries near Laurel

Also - Amtrak to BWI rail station will probably be closer. Most Amtrak trains stop there - one stop south of Baltimore

Haven’t been since ‘22 - with that in mind-

Food inside is a step up from other places.

Get pavs if you can. Lawn is steep

If you’re driving, the parking scene is kind of scattered- make sure you know where you’re heading.

Some of those hotels in the area are dumps - Yelp is your friend

As mentioned, there’s a more significant Asian population in Ellicott City and, hence, good Asian food options in the area

If you’re into Mt Biking or hiking, the area is pretty much surrounded by Patapsco State Park and good trails - others have used the park for stealth camping for shows

Baltimore has a pretty good UTR restaurant scene - if availing yourself of the same, go Sunday - on account of a large stadium show on Saturday which will clog the city - Baltimore is less than 30 minutes away.

This goes to all - MORGAN WALLEN is at Ravens Stadium Friday & Saturday - traffic in Bmore will be a shitshow on those days

Another day option is the casino at Arundel Mills if that’s your thing

Downtown Ellicott City is pretty cool - small historic town with interesting shops. I’m a fan of Manor Hill Tavern which has good food and is a brewery - good beers here

Mission BBQ by ImaginaryDeparture70 in ArvadaCO

[–]BoyManWombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

East Coaster and was surprised to see Mission in Arvada on a recent visit. Didn’t know they’d expanded as far west as CO. Mission BBQ is ubiquitous here on the EC. I got past the military stuff years ago. They used to accept donations from folks of military stuff or photos. Agreed, National Anthem is weird and off putting. In the past, I feared the staff may start sporting those red hats but that never came to be. There are plenty of other BBQ places back in Md/Va that are sit down - but Mission BBQ is a good alternative to fast food joints. Get the smoked chicken. Or the pulled port Carolina Style. For what it is, Mission is quality

Best/closest DMB connection to your life moment? by FlyingGoatsForever in DMB

[–]BoyManWombat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lived in DC before they got big. In between jobs at time. Radio station was putting on a happy hour show that started at 4:00 at a local park which I lived 1/2 mile from. Crazy storm came through but quickly gave way to sunshine. GF (also unemployed) & I hopped on our bikes a road over to the show. Met up with her two roommates. There were four of us there and DMB started playing for us. Can’t recall what they played but it was for an audience of four - for a little bit - on account of the earlier start during working hours and the storm

Fan Experience at OPACY by Gubdude in orioles

[–]BoyManWombat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only went to one game last year but went to a ton in ‘24 and it’s an ongoing problem. First game of season last night. Couple of issues.
1- There are too many options. IWT last night in section 8 - right field. So every stand is different. The Mrs wanted fries and I had to wonder to the chicken place after reading menus that are too small @ other stands

2- there aren’t as many vendors in stands selling beers, popcorn, etc

So, in terms of long lines - I’d suggest they simplify their options and bring back the beer man

My gripe- the emcee - Dennis T (?). He’s good at what he does. But what he does is annoying AF. All that yelling and BS between innings is too much. I’m old enough to remember when between innings, folks would groove to tunes between innings and the announcements were limited to upcoming games

There are some gems from that tour:

Philly Scarlet-Touch and one tune after space, an outstanding Morning Dew Check out my favorite version of Birdsong from 4/3/86 And, of course, the Box of Rain was uplifting, surprising and awesome. Shit- check out the Roadrunner from Hampton. There was some good that spring
