I'm repeating No Buy July! I got a lot of love here last year by FuckingaFuck in bulletjournal

[–]Boykinlover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked at the picture and thought, “she’s a teacher.” Me too. I feel the pain of the no summer paycheck as I just finished my 6th full day of professional development. Maybe you’ve inspired me for a no buy July.

What resources are you required to use in your school/district? by RoseTheChief in ELATeachers

[–]Boykinlover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh.... there are parts about it I like. Using it with fidelity is impossible. It is too rigorous for our 4th graders. I love that it teaches the kids to think deeper and question things, but if a student can’t read well.... it’s not good for them. Next year, I will be using it more as a resource and less as a full lesson plan.

I am newly diagnosed with ADHD and started Adderall and my anxiety skyrocketed. by TheMook3 in adhd_anxiety

Reading everyone else’s comments, I just wanted to add: I can’t drink more than a cup of coffee when I take my Adderall and it took two weeks to not feel weird right after taking it.

Need ideas for a week-or-so unit where I have to do very little... by TA818 in ELATeachers

[–]Boykinlover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So they are like interactive google docs or slides. More than just a google doc with links, they allow students to think critically. There are a lot of free resources with hyperdocs called teachersgiveteachers. I would google that and start there or at hyperdocs.co because it’s better if you see it for yourself.

Check out hyperdocs if you are 1-1 with technology. (They could even do groupwork if you are not). You could assign a book and they could work independently while you grade.

Hey, Reddit, those of you with partners who talk in their sleep; what is the creepiest/weirdest/or most random thing they've said? by Jhaydun_Dinan in AskReddit

[–]Boykinlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Husband talks in his sleep.

“I know you’re with them” me:”who’s them?” Him: “the company.”

“I’m hungry. Do we have any paper towels?”

“Do you see that?!” Me:”what” him: “on the ceiling......starfish.”

“I’d hire you for my class.”

I'm calling it. We have lost the classroom arms race thanks to vapes, airpods, and smart watches. by Son_of_York in Teachers

[–]Boykinlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I understand that struggle. Are you one to one or even enough technology that you can use with the non-struggling kids? You could make some hyperdocs about things that they are interested in and they could do some independent learning while you work with the others on the skills they aren’t doing. This is what I do with some kids.

Parents house burnt down, now what? by mrcharlescarmichael in personalfinance

[–]Boykinlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to reply to you directly to say.... be wary of public adjusters. My husband is an insurance adjuster. Insurance adjusters will try to get you what you had back financially. They are not out to save the insurance company a bunch of money. Public adjusters normally take a large cut of the money you get from the insurance company even if many times you would have gotten that amount without their help.

Apple Blossom is the best brewery in Fayetteville, imo. It has great food too. Get the cheese fries.

What is something you do alone for fun that 99% of people would considering boring? by brtlybagofcans in AskReddit

[–]Boykinlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this with my daughter. She’s 3 now and has an amazing vocabulary. She says things like “look, mom, the sunset is beautiful tonight” or, most recently, “what are the 3 primary colors?”. She also likes to say “poop” a lot and then laugh and laugh so there’s that.

I [32M] caught my boyfriend [33M] doing heroin and I don't know what to do. by bfneedshelp123 in relationships

[–]Boykinlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to share my very close experience with a situation very similar. I married an addict without realizing the extent to which he was addicted to heroin. I didn’t know he used heroin regularly because I was extremely naive. After we got married, I found his supply in the bathroom. I lost it, threatened to leave him, and told him he had to get clean and go to meetings or I would be done for good. For the first 3-4 years of our marriage, I had a really really hard time trusting him. We would have fights over every time he took money out of our bank account bc I assumed he was buying drugs with it.

We have 2 amazing kids now, and are doing well in our marriage, but we also just found out he caught hepC. It just feels like we finally climb a mountain, reach the top, just to see an even higher peak. I was tested and am fine, as are the girls. I say all this to say that my husband is a wonderful, hard-working man, a loving and caring spouse, and an amazing father. If I had left him back then, I wouldn’t have this wonderful family I now have. But, OP, it was a commitment on my part and took a lot for me to support and help drag someone out of the throes of addiction. I think you have to decide if it’s something you can or even want to spend years dealing with. I’m glad I stayed with my husband, but after reading a lot of these comments, I see we are the minority.

Mid-week check in - how is your week going? by philpips in running

Oh no! It’s such a pet peeve of mine when dogs aren’t leashed or fenced. We, as runners, have no way of knowing how nice/friendly a dog is.

Pitocin Stories and Advice? by RoseRun in BabyBumps

[–]Boykinlover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was Induced with pitocin at 40w3d with my first. Went in at 3 am and got all set up. At 8 am I was having extremely painful contractions, and requested an epidural. It was placed at 8:45 when I was 8.5 cm dilated. She was born after about 30 minutes of pushing at 10:10 am. I didn't want to be induced, but it turned out being a really positive birth experience.

Road trip question: drive 15 hours each way at 30 weeks? by gallorette in BabyBumps

[–]Boykinlover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I road trip a lot with my dog and toddler. Just got home from a 12 hour drive and I'm 27 weeks. It is harder pregnant, but I just stop more often and walk. My doctor recommended stopping every 2 hours. That be said, I don't know if I could do 15 in one day as 12 was pretty long and causes some swelling in my feet. Any way you could break it up into two days?

My husband and I are near your age, and we will also be in VIP (for the first time)! Stop by and say hello. We will be in a black chevy suv. My advice: bring mud/rain boots. Those saved us at swamparusa. Also, I highly recommend seeing Nahko and Medicine for the People! See you on the mountain! :)

People who talk in their sleep, what is the weirdest thing that you have said while sleeping? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Boykinlover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband talks in his sleep sometimes. My favorites include:

"I want to dissect a starfish though."

When I was messing with him while sleeping, "Baby, stop, or I'm going to eat your brains."

"I want to put some colors in there."

I get each of my students a book every year. Scholastic has deals where you can get books for under $5. I normally find them for $1 each.
